so what fruits work well..this is the first i have heard that fruits are hard to eat. I thought it was only bread and meat that were difficult. The list of foods that work seems to get smaller and smaller.

how about taco meat or meat sauce?

no catheter for me

colace is a stool softener which can be found in any pharmacy. Often recommended for post-op constipation.

Tomorrow is a week post-op for me. Tammy and others I strongly recommend colace to get rid of that "stopped up feeling" This has been the only problem for me. Incisions are healing nicely, swelling is going down. I just want the next week to fly by so I can put soething solid in my mouth. But so far so good.

Hey the movie I went to see at the theatre tonight was sold out...so i got to come home and see this one:) Really awesome to watch although I think that lady was under anesthesia longer than she had to be. Thanks so much for posting that link..now I know what I went through last week. Although I still have no idea which of these incisions is my port. Does anyone know?

weight gain in hospital
magnolia replied to magnolia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
those lbs and more have disappeared. now i am 6 days post-op and down 14 lbs including the pre-op. The incisions are feeling better, never had a gas pain. So I am rolling along...counting down the days until i can eat something solid, (ar at least semi-solid). MAgs -
5 days after surgeryand i feel...........
magnolia replied to ladyvase's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post-op and feeling prety good. never had gas pains just some pain from the incisions, which the vicoden has really taken care of. Liquids are boring but tolerable. I am dreaming about the soft mushy foods i will eat in another 9 days. I have to go for a post-op esophagram on Monday and my post=op visit with the surgeon is on tuesday. It is nice on the other side. Mags -
does anyone have any good first mushy to recommend? I know when that time comes I will be afraid to try anything:)

so what does anyone think about me trying some thinned out pureed butternut squash soup. It certainly is no thicker than the protein shakes. I just need a bit of variety for my sanity.
-
had surgery on Monday the 12th..feeling a bit better every day..right now i feel like i could eat or drink anything..but of course I have stuck to the liquids. just having 3 protein shakes and a little chicken broth and one sugar free popsicle plus water...does that sound right? I cannot wait for mushies..mashed potatoes and ground beef sound great. Mags

Getting home after surgery..
magnolia replied to famouslastwords's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i slept for about 5 hours yesterday, because I go almost no sleep in the hospital. My roomate had complications and they were in and out all night checking on her. then I had a hard time falling asleep last night. I might take a nap now. I am just bored..headachy..not in the mood to watch tv..read a little, went out for a walk. Cleaned out a cabinet.(which i shold not have done)..just tired now and a little wachy from the pain pill:) mags -
ok so I was also banded on 3/12. Which incision is the port?...i cannot tell. I guess that is a good thing at this point. How much liquid are you drinking per day. I am not hungry at all..just trying to drink liquid protein/broth and water. Mags
-
somehow I got off the list. I was banded on Monday 2/12..feeling pretty good. just trying to get a handle on how much liquid I should have. I went out for a prety long walk today..felt good but tired me out. I am sooo swollen, but all in all this is much less painful than I expected. I was lucky enough n ot to have any gas pains. Mags

hi, i just had my surgery yesterday..i feel pretty great..nogas pains just a bit of pain in the incisions. I went to the movies tonight which was definitely overdoing it. I am drinking liquids just fine...feel no restriction at all..is that good or bad? All i know is that this was much easier than I had anticipated (atleast so far:))

How soon after surgery has anyone tried Yoga? 6 weeks after my surgery I am going to a resort that has lost of yoga classes...will I be able to participate?

hi well tomorrow is the big day for me. I am very nervous. It seems like people have such different post-op instructions. I have been on mostly liquid protein for 2 weeks pre0op then i will have clear liquids for 2 weeks and then mushies for two weeks. But some people seem to be on solids almost right after surgery. I am a bit confused by this. and yes, I cleaned out closet and drawers it was wierd, sort of like the nesting instict before having babies:) And that is a very long time ago for me. I will stay overnight at the hospital and hopefully I will post a pot-op update on Tuesday. Can't wait to be banded and home again. Mags.

ok so now I am rescheduled for next monday (the 12th) a third week of liquid diet pre-op cruel:0

I woke up today feeling lousy and by the afternoon, I had about 102 fever...I called the surgeon and he told me he could not operate on me tomorrow, because it would be too dangerous. He said that the surgical site would get infected. So I must call in the morning and get a new date. I really hope it can be soon, since I have really worked hard to clear my calendar to get this done. So bummer for me, I am no longer a March 5th bander. Mags

Ok so now that it is saturday night and my banding is on Monday 3/5, I am starting to get really scared. Went off the liquids tonight to have a diet coke and a slice of pizza...want chinese food tomorrow..i know I am bad but..i just feel like I have to enjoy these foods one last time. Other than that I have been amazingly compliant on this liquid diet. I have never been able to keep on a diet...hence my weight problem. I know I have to work with my band and I will..but for now it is hard. Mags

ok so i see my name on the list for Monday so I guess this is really happening:) They won't let me know until Sunday what time my surgery will be (not that it really matters) The best news is that I called today and found out that my insurance will cover everything. I was scheduled for the band two years ago (and then I chickened out) and would have had to pay about 17K. I have been a bit emotional and teary today so I guess I am scared, although rationally I know I will be ok (mostly because of the great people on this site) I must say I thought I would lose more weight from this pre-op diet, I have only lost about 5 lbs...I have always been a very slow loser, so I am worried that this is indicative of the progress I will make after being banded. Let's all keep in touch ..thanks to all..esp Tammy for keeping the record of everyone's surgical dates... Mags

Thanks glo..good friends are great...mine have been terrific. My husband is taking two days off to help me out, and he never leaves the office. My kids keep coming up with cute ways for me to vary my shakes..like adding mint extract to the chocolate..for mint/chocolate flavor, and swirling the vanilla and chocolate together. So i am definitely gettting a lot of support.(and of course the best comes from all the helpful people on this site.) Just trying to get my head in the right place to deal with the pain and the adjustment that lies ahead. Do most people end up staying overnight in the hospital..my Dr. said that most probably I will have to. let's all keep in touch. I am getting into bed to watch American Idol..so I can't get near the kitchen:) night all Mags

I cannot believe that my surgery is in just a few days (March 5). I actually like the protein shakes but the chocolate has been keeping me up at night:) I have also been eating the protein bars which are yummy. Today I was a bit out of control and had 2 handfuls of chips..I gotta watch that. Starting to get nervous about the pain and the possibility of failure. I REALLY want this to work. Who else has a MArch 5th date? Mags

Does it hurt to get a fill? is it a big needle? are you anesthetized? Thanks..my banding is on Monday...I still have so many questions!!!
