  1. I didn't think things had changed. We need to start a petition!
  2. Did you do liquids only and did that include Soups, chil and sugar free pudding? When did you move on to mushies? Know one has to follow doctor's orders but curious because so many seem to be talking about mashed potatoes etc. Thanks!
  3. Hi all, I am just sitting here playing with the clock and calendar and wondering what I'll be eating by my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. My surgery was 10-03-11, and since I'm still on liquids I feel like I am marking time to get to the next level. I walk, read, surf the net etc., but even though I know it's one day at a time, I wonder what everyone is doing to fill their days beside making shakes, pudding, and taking their vitamins. I guess going out to eat and being with friends on the wekend is out for a while. So in the meantime I will be doing _____________________. (Please fill in the blank and be nice.) THANKS!
  4. I hope to have the same success you have. How much did you lose in the first Month and what was your first "real Meal?

  5. Hi Everyone, I was sleeved 10-3-11 and other than walking the halls of the hospital, I wondered if you would mind sharing what type of exercises or program you did post-op and when you started, how long etc. Thanks!

    Hunger

Hi everyone. I just got sleeved Monday and I am discouraged. I know I am only two days out but I got on the scale to start my journal for after surgery and I gained 4.5 lbs in one day on nothing but fluids! I sure could never lose that fast! Then other problem is I feel hungry. Is that "normal" amd did anyone else have that and get down (grieve over the loss of food)? I knew this was coming. I did well ( didn't feel hunger) and lost 21 lbs before surgery, which was hard due to Mr Ghrelin hanging out in the stomach. I think now he has taken up permanent residence in the 15% that is left and he is on a rampage. At home I am now allowed protein shakes, yogurt, and pureed fruit, along with liquids from before. But head and sleeve hunger is there. I Would appreciate any of your help. Thanks, Monty
  7. Hi, I hear everyone's fears about the "Big Day"! I was just sleeved10-4-11 and I felt the same. You have been concentrating on meeting and checking off each step and suddendly the next one is "the table" In other surgeries you know pretty much what to expect, at least that's the way I felt. But with this one, it's not just the surgery, it's the commitment and doubts about whether you are making the right decision (one last chance to back out). Just try to concentrate on all the reasons you decided to do this before that anxiety set in to frighten you. Once you get closer something kicks in that says "I've come too far to let anything stop me now! This is my life and I'm not letting anything or anyone ever take it from me again.!!! By the way Chris, I just found your blog and I am loving it. Please keep blogging

My next Dr appmt is 10-20. I like your diet better I am not doing so well on my exercise. Just can't seem to get that off the ground. I did a walking tape for 10 min yesterday and bought a pedometer and have started counting steps. There is a great site called MY FITNESSBUDDY.COM that helps me keep track of myprotein, fluids etc. I fill that in and track my progress. I am still dealing with hunger and except for the incisions would wonder if they even did it. If you are eating 2-3oz at a time you must have to eat more frequently that 3-4 times a day. Maybe that is the key. Please keep me posted how you are doing and I will do the same. Thanks for your response. I look forward to connecting with others in the same boat on here
  9. Thanks so much for this post. I am 10 days out and had started to feel sorry for myself with the routine diet and blah shakes. Thanks for reminding me of my reasons to get sleeved!!! I
  10. Hi, I just got sleeved 10-4-11 so I am now looking at post-surgery posts and found your post. I will be 68 on the 24th of this month. I must say this was the easiest of now 4 abdominal surgeries, but not quite as I expected recovery wise. For one thing I have genuine hunger, not head hunger. The second thing is I am not making it on liquids only. I have pureed some chili, had 1/2 cup mashed beans with shredded chesse, and some sugar free pudding. From other posts I see some people are allowed mushies right out the gate. I haven't had any trouble with these foods. Sometimes I get an air bubble and have to wait until I burp. As far as exercise I have had both of my knees replaced and two discs in my back removed so I'm not doing handstands-don't ever expect to. I will be happy if I can walk without struggling for air. How are you doing? Would love to hear your ideas and where you are in all this. Monty
  11. I'm confused. When do you start eating the things you al are talking about? 2nd, 3rd, 4th week out? How long were you on the liquid stage? What happens if you try wendy's chili in the liwuid stage? Is that allowed? Thanks.

Thanks for asking. Haven't been here in awhile. I am still down as the shakes are becoming tiresome already. You were sleeved on the same day as I recall. What is your diet right now? Am I misreading your ticker or have you already lost 17 lbs? When is your next Dr. visit and when do you move on to the next stage. What will you be allowed to have? Just curious if the Drs. in Austraila do it the same. It's nice to have someone to chat with that is in the same boat and about the same time. Monty
  13. Does anyone know if the reason food is restricted is because the stomach isn't ready for it. I am only 6 days post surgery and I am soooo hungry I tried some pureed navy beans with a little shredded chedar on top.(about 1/4 cup) and it went down find and eased the hunger. Now I'm wondering if I am just ready to move on. Any one else experience this? Thanks

    moving on to next stage

Thanks so much for sharing that info. My doc is very expreienced having done over 5000. They recently changed the pureed to start the 21st instead of the 15th, so I think some people may have pushed the button too soon. I was wondering if another aspect might be that they have found putting pureed down might strech the sleeve too soon.. I know m y body and it's limits pretty well having gone thru 3 abdominal surgeriens none of which were for WL. I am very careful but sometimes it just feels lie the right thing to do. I think you're right about one size does not fit all. Thanks, again. the

Congratulations! You need to get some Protein powder or shakes to boost your protein. Apparently you need to hang around 70-75, because it speeds up your metabolism and helps you lose faster. I also made some homemade chicken broth (receipe on this site) and my new tummy really liked it. Canned and carton tasted too salty to me. Hope this helps. Monty
  16. :)Hello, Does anyone have a homemade chicken or beef broth receipe that can be used in post-surgery first two weeks? Canned is not working for me. Thanks
  17. monty

    homemade broth

Thanks. Looks like another great receipe that will be easy for me to make

    OCTOBER 2011 SLEEVE ROSTER

Hi everybody, I am doing well. I had the surgery Monday and came home Tuesday! It went so well that when I woke up and was back in my room, I asked my husband if he was sure I had been sleeved because my pain never got above 3.They did not need to use anything more than tylenol. My surgery took a little longer because two hiatal hernias the size of fists were sitting outside the stomach on my diaphragm which was why I sometimes had shortness of breath on changing positions. Nobody had found that thru all the testing! So I got a two fer!!! Biggest problem now is the gas under the rib cage slowly being absorbed. So I am uncomfortable with that, but not really in pain. The only scarry part was that I gained 4.5 lbs in the hospital on fluids only and I didn't know that would happen. With all the fluids pumped in your body can't rid itself of the extra in the beginning. Biggest challenge is getting all the fluids in to stay hydrated. I wish everyone well and so appreciate all of the help I have received on this site.
  21. My point is United Health Care, who also handles our united health managed plan does cover it if you are under 65!!! Many other major insurance compnies have come on board and are covering it for those under 65. Thus, age discrimination. I wish you luck. Post back after you get it and maybe it would be worth switching over to Kaiser. to those who are trying to wait it out. I would sooo love to be wrong!
  22. I don't know what state you are in, but here in FL if, Christ came down himself to ask, the answer would still be NO. My husband talked to the chief claims manager and he said at this time even though we have aarp united health managed medicare, no one under medicare will have it covered because there is not enough long term data. I had my surgery Monday and we have started the appeal. He also said that if you were UNDER 65 some insurance companies would be able to sell you a separate policy to cover it. Once you are on Medicare no one is able to cover you thru medicare. If you are still working you could probably get it covered under the company policy. Not trying to scare you, but I would get the info they told you put in writing so you won't be in for a major surprise. If you get something in writing from medicare stating it is covered I would really appreciate it if you could share it. Thanks for responding, Monty
