  1. Howdy!! I'm pregers too! Yea! I'm due March 2nd and super excited. I'm also nervous as all get out b/c I'm only 9 weeks today and have been put on bedrest twice due to spotting. I imagine it has a lot to do with stress b/c they were both crazy weeks at work and home. Anywhoo...I've been banded since Feb. 2nd 2007, so not long, but I had lost 50 lbs and have PCOS so was going through some treatment for that including lazer vaporization of the cycts on my ovaries and about a month and half after surgery I got pregnant! It's the best feeling in the world so far even though I'm nausious all day and EXHAUSTED most of the time! lol I had a complete unfill about a month after I found out I was pregnant b/c though I was only suppose to eat 300 more calories I wasn't eating maybe 900 at the time and was having a VERY hard time eating more than that b/c I ate slow, filled up quick and just had no interest in eating more. The unfill helped a lot! I am 25 and this is me and my husbands first child. Super excited, and CONGRATS to all the prego bandsters out there!! KIT!:preggers:

    Boot Camp?????

I tried a bootcamp before lap-band and it was awesome! I was one of the biggest girls there but it didn't matter, there were athletes, beginners, older and younger people, everyone got something out of it. I had/have medical issues that would prevent me from losing "weight" but I was deffinately increasing stamina and toning my muscles a lot. I am pretty shy and was nervouse to work out in front of everyone but I quickly realized it was great working out with other people with a variety of range b/c we could team up if needed and everyone was very encouraging. It will definately make you sweat, but its worth it if you take it seriously! Good Luck!!

Anyone with PCOS? And/or BMI <35?

I just wanted to update PCOS readers with my situation! I have now lost 38 lbs. (3 months out) I also recently had another "episode" where I begin a period and don't stop...this one lasted 48 days!! Since I recently moved back to Houston from Oklahoma I didn't have an OBGYN so searched with a vengence about 3 weeks into the period. Everyone was booked up for a month but one office offered me the opportunity to see a Nurse Practitioner in one week and I jumped on it b/c I needed something and I needed it fast as the pain, emotional rollercoaster, and just being 100% drained was taking its toll. I got in to see the nurse and she was great but said I was a unique case and wanted to bring in the Dr. I met Dr. Holt and he told me he was going to do a complete blood workup on me and that I could get pregnant (which I thought was a lost cause). I recieved celebrex from the nurse who said that should stop the bleeding...it didn't but I was super happy to have someone on my side, 9 viles of blood and another week later, I was confirmed with 3 hormones being out of whack and of course PCOS. I recieved meds for the hormones as well as a prenatal multi vitamin to help my body re-regulate itself and actually release an egg for once giving me the opportunity to get pregnant! I was also given an ultrasound to check things out and they realized blood had pooled outside my uterus causing the significant increase in pain not just in front, but in my lower back as well. I am having surgery tomorrow (5/11/07) to have the ligaments that hold my uterus attached in the right lengths b/c it fell and couldn't get up (heck I'd give out too bleeding for 48 days!) , the pooled blood will be removed, and my ovaries will be lazered to vaporize the cysts. They wanted to get my appendix as well, but I didn't feel it was necassary at this time so I'm passing on that. Either way, I'm very nervous but EXTREMELY excited about the possibilties that lie ahead for me and my husband! Also, as a note, my husband and I began a thorough walk/jog routine since we hit our 3 months out and it feels great!! (sore, but great!) Thank you all again for your support and as always I wish you the best with this lap-band and PCOS fun!

Anyone with PCOS? And/or BMI <35?

ELoo, I'm so happy my story helps! I was never able to lose weight on my own, my muscles would tone, but no weight, no inches were lost even through a boot camp program! I have now, as of this morning (19 days out) lost 19.5 pounds with little excersice (walking but nothing hardcore yet)! I have had a borrage of blood tests and have never had any issues with bad results but I know I have had blood sugar issues a few times, none since this new lap band diet though! I'm so very glad to have "met" you and wish you the very best on your lap-band journey!! KIT!!

Anyone with PCOS? And/or BMI <35?

I am 24 and have been diagnosed with PCOS for a little over 3 years now. I have the multiple cycts (Dr. said I have never released an egg, they stuck as cycts) type and the over-bleeding/cramping kind. My periods last at least 7 days and have lasted over 45 days!! For me the pain and bleeding were the worst until I learned I couldn't concieve. At 21 I was told I only had 4-5 good baby making years left but since I don't release eggs that was dismall. My Dr. also told me my best hope was to lose weight, but that I wouldn't lose "even if I ate 500 calories and ran 5 miles a day." I tried a bunch of meds and exercise, but nothing helped. In the process I found my husband (well, he found me) and with his AMAZING support I have moved forward with my thinking. I decided on the lap band journey so I could eat 500 calories and maybe someday run 5 miles a day, but mostly in the hope that my Dr was wrong. I am losing weight and I see the light at the end of my tunnel. I have read a lot and talked to more about PCOS and know if I stick to my guns with the lap band, I will lose weight and getting down to a "normal" size will help my body re-regulate itself to more normal levels hormonally thus increasing my chances with pregnancy and a healthier happier life. I was devastated about PCOS but with knowledge and faith I now know it is something I CAN LIVE with. I hope your and everyones journey here with PCOS and weight comes to a "happy" medium. I HAVE HIGH HOPES!!

    Husband problems

Call and Check the insurance most policies will only let you make a change once a year so check and see how much time you have before he can change the policy and remove you maybe you can get the insurance to cover you before he can remove you. if you live in Houston,Tx Dr. Speigel (713-960-0003) is really fast about getting his patients approved, with him you don't have to wait the 3 month period as most doctors. I've seen some of his patients get approved in 2 weeks

    Question about protein....

Dr. said it could clog up in the band passage.

    Question about protein....

MY hubby and I like the Ensure brand. He likes buttered pecan and I like the strawberry We aren't allowed powdered mixes so we have to select from pre-made ones. There is also this kind in a silver bottle from the vitamin shoppe that came in vanilla ice cream and it was delish!
  11. Has anyone experienced these symptoms AFTER surgery, because I am getting a lot of them right now, and it's kind of scaring me.

    Barium Swallow

I was wondering if you had an update on what it was actually causing all that b/c I'm only 5 days out and have been dealing with this since surgery (which I did barium only a couple hours after surgery). Thanks!!
  13. University General Hospital is amazing! My husband and I had our surgeries 2/2/07 and it was like staying at a 5 star hotel! The nursing staff was so great and its a beautiful facility. Each room is private and has its own plasma tv and beautiful artwork, VOIP phone, couch/bed, thermastat, private tile beautiful bathroom, etc. Boyond the facility though I have to say the staff was amazing and so many of them had gastric surgery of some kind as well and were very encouraging. Don't know about your Dr. though, we went through Dr. Spiegel and he was great.
  14. How long did it take everyone to get back to work? I work at a bank and am having surgery tomorrow (2/2/07) and planned to return Tue. giving me 3 days off after the day of surgery. Does that sound okay?

    6 Freaking Months!??!

I'm in the houston area as well, we initially were going with a Dr. close to the house who said it would be months before they even had enough junk to send to insurance. I talked to a co-worker whose wife had the lap-band and recomended her Dr. b/c it took only a couple weeks tops (that depends on insurance). We went with Dr. Felix Spiegel and he was great. He is very busy but he is the best at what he does b/c lap-band is all he does. We have United Healthcare and they approved us no questions and it took about a week. They covered 90%. Dr. Spiegel has a website http://www.felixspiegelmd.com/index.asp His entire staff is banded and very knowledgable about the insurance stuff works and how to get an answer quick. It helps though if you know your policy b/c at first they said its an exclusion but I had read my policy and knew they approved obesity surgery if you have a BMI over 40 (or 35 with a co-morbidity). He works through University General Hospital which is awesome and half the staff there had obesity surgery of some kind and were happy to lend advice. Good Luck to you and I hope it works out!

    Recovery Time??

A big thanks to everyone for their advice and help on this matter. My husband and I went in on this together and he came out skipping while I am having a very hard time with "gas". Its been 2 days and I can't seem to get rid of enough and its climbing into my shoulders neck and makes it very hard to breath deeply. I have one more day to try to be reasonable for work which I hope happens but the gas is killing me! By the way, just so hopefully no one tries my big mistake, I thought taking a very hot shower would bring the gas up and I could burp it out, well I didn't think well enough and the heat just made the gas swell and I ended up throwing up gas which is very painfull with all my holes...so please don't try a hot shower if you have gas buildup! lol
