I started looking into the lapband in 2005 but was unable to afford it. In January of 2011 my job started paying for the proceedure and I decided to go for it. I had to find a doctor that was covered by my insurance then I had to set an appointment with him. In febuary I had that appointment. After my intial appointment i had to go get so much done to even get approvial for the surgery. I had to have a phsyic evaluation, blood work, had to see a nutrionist for 4 monthes, while seeing my primary for 6 monthes,being sure the appointments were not less then 30 days apart but not more than 35 and they had to be each month. had to got a upper gi scope done. and after all that. I sat and worried about being approved. That was the longest time ever (so i thought). I was hurt when i got my first denial, my doctors office was really great and assured me that that was normal. They assured me insurance had to have proof that I have been obese for more than 2 - 5 years. They appealed it for me and and worked with my primary doctor to get the needed info.(i didn't have to do anything.) Then I got another denial i was furious but that was because the hospital they first wanted to do the surgery at was not a hospital of excelence. You see insurane has to have everything perfect. My doctors office just changed the location of my operation and everything went through. Finally I was approved. The next issue was paying my part of the payment to get it done. Well they worked with me on that too. I will make payments on it but I had to pay a portion of it. My doctors office just turned out to be great and they are willing to work with you through it all.
