About Me

  • Gender
    Female
Had lap-band surgery in March of 2008. Everything fine first few years, lost over 100 pounds, excercised regurlary. But about a month ago started experiencing digestive issues. Tummy upset, belches tasted like sulfur so I started to eliminate spicy foods. About 2 weeks ago began experiencing excruciating pain in my upper stomach above the band. First it hurt too much to eat solid foods so I began a liquid diet but the pain continued. Went to PCP on Monday, 9/12/11 and he put me on Prilosec OTC and Carafate (disgusting!). Pain became too intense so had to go to ER yesterday, 9/14/11. They found nothing abnormal in blood-work or x-rays to rule out pancreatitis. Just got back from having endoscopy this morning and found the band had dissected my stomach and is half-way inside the inner stomach wall. So, after spending money I didn't really have because insurance wouldn't pay and going through agonizing pain I now have to have the band removed next week. Long story short: Do not have the lap-band if you have more than 100 lbs to lose, go the extra distance and have the bypass. I wish I had.
