Slow Weight Loss & Feeling Like Failure
electronicart replied to curryteacher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Do NOT get discouraged. Everyone loses differently. My weight loss did not pick up until my band was over half full and that was six months after surgery. I was losing a pound or two a month and now I'm losing a pound or two a week. Push...follow your plan, good things are coming your way. Remember, Protein first, solid foods, Water and exercise. Oh yeah, B.E.L.I.E.V.E in youself! -
Pneumonia-7 Days Post Op
electronicart replied to lappyloo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you both have had a rough start! I hope you get to feeling better. You can put this behind you and be on your way to a healthier lifestyle. Ps. If your doctor isn't taking good care of you, get a second opinion! -
Is The Band Really Failing You, Or Are You Failing The Band?
electronicart replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Before I decided to get banded I thought like many people do. I should be able to eat less, exercise more and lose weight. I lost and regained the weight (usually more) over and over again. A few of my friends got banded and they all had mixed results. So, I went into this journey knowing the band is a tool. I knew my life would change, not just because of having lap band, but, because I WANTED it to change. Now, I love my band, but as most of you know, its not always easy living with the band. Fast food is pretty much out, so is bread and sodas. I could choose to drink milkshakes and Cookies, but, I choose to live a healthier lifestyle. When my tummy hurts because I ate too fast or didn't chew my food, I learn that I must continue to use this tool the way it is intended. I am a work in progress. It is SO worth it. I love being able to move easier and hear the doctor say "your lab results are outstanding". I would do it all over again. -
You are on your way!!! I'm the turtle of lapband, but, a loss is a loss. Everyone is different!

Its been almost eight months since I've been banded. I've lost 34 lbs so, I've been shopping in my closet (ha) for a while. Many of the pants I have not worn in years now fit. I still pick out "baggy" clothes out of habit. I have not bought anything from a store until today. A couple of weeks ago I won a gift certificate to a clothing store ($25) and decided to stop in. I really needed a new shirt. (I have plenty of pants now, ha) Well, the shirt I bought is a size medium....I can hardly even type this. I have not been a medium in over ten years. I love my band! I love my band! I love my band! This is my first weightloss "wow". I wanted to share it with everyone that is on their own journey of weightloss. No doubt, losing weight is hard, even with the band. But, I'm here to tell you, it is absolutely do-able!

Almost 6Mos Post Op And I've Only Lost 15Lbs
electronicart replied to spoiledbratt97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start your day with Protein. If you like coffee, you can buy Syntrax nectar Cappuchino. One scoop has 32 grams of protein. Eat solid foods as much as possible. It may be uncomfortable, but, it helps the process of learning to eat less. Watch out for the slider foods, if you have one, make sure it it healthy. Don't be too hard on yourself. Its not easy. My weight loss has been VERY slow until my band was over half full. You can do it:) -
Congratulations:) Diets don't work, Lap Band does!

I have to bite my meds in half. They will not go through the band:( So far, now side effects) I take the 800mg ibuprofen and they are huge! I bite them into several small peices.

8 Weeks Post Op- Not Losing?
electronicart replied to BandedBera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try not to get discouraged. I had the same experience. I lost eleven pounds while on the pre-op sugar busters diet and post-op liquid diet, then, immediately hit the wall. I was losing about a pound and a half each month and it made me crazy. The important thing to do is stick with the plan. Get your Protein, Water, Vitamin and exercise in every day. Some people are "turtle" banders like me. It was not until my band was over half full that I began to feel real restriction. Now, I'm losing about two pounds per week and I am so happy. I still drag myself down to the gym. I still goof up and eat the wrong things sometimes. But, its a process, a journey as they say. I hope knowing that there many people that have been where you are will inspire you to push through the next couple of months. If I can do it, ha, anyone can. -
Banded On Tuesday
electronicart replied to Tricia39's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal:) Lap band is hard on the brain, ha. Congratulations on your surgery! -
Congratulations! Welcome to the lap band club!

Yep, groceries are sky high and the healthier foods do cost more. That said, maybe you can just modify some of the meals you have been cooking. Like using ground turkey instead of hamburger meat. I see you were recently banded and in a few months, you won't be able to eat as much as you could in the past. There will probably be a few foods you can no longer eat. Plus, teaching kids to eat healthy is priceless, right?

Thats so funny and so great! I still have a lot of my baggy underwear, what am I thinking?

Sugar Free Cake
electronicart replied to new beginnings03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eat cake:) is what I say!!! Recently I told my nutritionist (after losing 8.5 lbs in 6 weeks) that I ate cake the day before. She said "you're not supposed to tell me that". I said "but, it was my birthday". She said "oooookay". Every now and then is okay, every day is what got me so overweight! -
Is This Normal? Is Anyone Experiencing Or Experienced These Feeling 2 Weeks Before Surgery?!
electronicart replied to beane007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh SO normal:) You are about to begin a marvelous journey..... I love my band! -
I use to say I need a band around my brain, ha. It took a while and some tough self talk to get over the hump of my life changes. I thought, really Jackie, are you going to spend all that money, go to the extreme of having surgery and not push through the barriers? Really? I was banded September 29, 2012. It took a while to feel restriction. I could eat anything I wanted. What worked for me is doing what the nutritionist said. Protein.....I drink Syntrax nectar. 32g per serving. (Amazon) Water...every chance I get. Less food....I mean, I'm full (never got full before the band) exercise....I hate it, but, I work out 30 minutes almost every day. Hang in there, you CAN do this....really, you can.

I was banded September 29, 2011. I have been calling myself the turtle of lapband because I was only losing a pound or two each month. Now that my band is half full I am losing right at two pounds a week:) Happy Happy Joy Joy!! Sometimes I fall off the wagon and eat too much junk...just had a birthday, cake at work, cake at home, cupcakes from friends and then my son's birthday was two days later, cheese cake.....now...Mother's Day..... But for the most part, I drink a lot of Protein drinks, exercise almost every day, take my Vitamin and drink my Water. I love my band:) I have lost more weight with the band than any other diet program, and I've done them all! It has changed me for life!

Psycholgical Support After Banding
electronicart replied to jennifer1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would like to find a support group. The mental side of lap band is huge for me. I am a food addict. I still overeat and cannot wrap my head around the fact that I am full at times. I call myself the turtle of lap band. I'm losing weight, very slowly. I exercise and take my Vitamins, and eat healthy food. I think I need brain band surgery, ha. Guess until then I will just keep working on myself. -
