I'm noticing more young women getting surgery. I'm wondering if anyone else had it in 50 or 60s and how you did?
-
I bought some today at whole foods and was wondering if anyone has taken it or had good results with it? I am also taking Joint Juice (glucosamine and chrondroitin). I have hip pain and am seeking relief for a 5k I'm doing on the 21st of April.

Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know
Pam Peltz posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had an episode at work... My bowels just emptied very liquidy with very little warning. I had to come home to shower and change. Is this dumping? Other than slightly queasy no other symptoms. I ate a cookie about 2 hours before. One of those Samoans. And then I had a sucker; small round grape one. Please help!! Gotta know what to do. -
Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know
Pam Peltz replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow up: saw my surgeon today for 6 month follow-up. He said more than likely what happened to me WAS dumping. (Glad to hear that!). Resolution? (Duh) don't eat sugar! He was so happy about my good lab results and weight loss. Overall, a very good report! Thank you all for your help. And, DL, for the info on early and late dumping. No mas sugar for me. None. No longer even tempted. -
Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know
Pam Peltz replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have diabetes and am on insulin pump. Since surgery (RNY) I've only had a couple of lows. I usually drink a few ounces of milk and after 15 minutes follow with a protein low carb snack. Once it was really low and I took 1/2 a glucose tablet. They have 4g of carbs so way under the 12-15g that triggers dumping. My a1c has gone from 8.6 to 6.7 as of a week ago. Also (DL) my c-peptides has gone from 0 to 1.5!!! My pancreas is STARTING TO WORK!!! -
Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know

I've been very careful about sugar and have been pushing the limit recently because I thought I was going to be one of those rare ones who don't dump. Guess ill watch it more carefully now. That was so embarrassing. I have my 6 month post op on Tuesday so I will discuss it then. Thanks all for the input. -
I need to learn all I can about the RNY quickly
Pam Peltz replied to MinnesotaDreaming23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
RNY cures gerd. Sleeve does not. RNY best thing I ever did for myself. Did it at 60 years old and am 6 months post op. 3 pounds to go before I'm below 200 and I'm doing my second 5k tomorrow night! Not one regret. -

Anyone know how to get the smell out of shaker bottles? I found two under my car seat and since they are so expensive I thought I'd see if anyone knees how to get the stink ou? Thank you!

I use one better: www.laptoplunches.com. I love it. Right sizes and easy to work with.
-
Good to know. Thanks!

I got the band first. Bad mistake. It did not work for me at all. I was sliming after each meal and lost no weight. Got band to RNY revision in Feb this year and I'm losing lots. Down 62 pounds (I lose slower than most due to my age (60) and I'm not exercising much lately. Still it's 10 pounds a month. RNY was best thing I ever did for myself!!

There are also many videos on YouTube. Or go to Hastings or a pawn shop and buy a used DVD. Doing the walking at work is very good. The effects are cumulative. Are there any steps nearby? That is also a great add to walking or just use one break or lunch for stairs. Good luck!

Isopure protein drink?
Pam Peltz replied to ponchik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, try websites for sample packs. Most gave them. Try first. Protein powder can be expensive and your tastes are different from everyone else. What I or anyone likes might not appeal to you. BariatricChoice.com Mybariatricpantry.com (great stuff! And you get cash rewards ) Syntrax.com unjury.com Bariatricadvantage.com Also try waldenfarms.com. They sell zero calorie, zero carb, zero fat and gluten free products. I love their super fruits dressing. They have salad dressings, fruit spreads, chocolate, strawberry and others syrups. They also have wonderful customer service in case you don't like something (I've never returned a thing) but I've seen on their fb that they will. Whew! I think that's all I have! -
Isopure protein drink?
Pam Peltz replied to ponchik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The ones from Costco and SAMs (premade Premier) are good. Best I've had is the GNS Wheybolic protein. It is pricier but tastes the best. DO NOT GET THEIR PLAIN WHEY. Make sure it is WheyBolic. Also I like the My Whey. Don't know where it was from it was a sample given to me. I also take Bariatric Advantage. (They have a website. I've heard Syntrax is really good but I have not tried it. They have a sorta Oreo and cream flavored. syntrax has a website also and you can get it on amazon. If you are on Facebook, there is a group called Protein Friendly Shakes and Meal Planning. They have dozens of protein shake recipes to keep boredom away. Also, finally, look at theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. She is amazing. Good luck! Let me know if I can help you more. -
Isopure protein drink?
Pam Peltz replied to ponchik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of the isopure are tolerable. Most make me gag too. The more protein stuff has seems worse it tastes. Whey protein has usually 25-30 grams per serving and is ok. -
water making me sick!

Help! Low Oxygen Level
Pam Peltz replied to Country Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had low oxygen after surgery. I was sent home on oxygen and on it for two weeks after. It did go back to normal. I would not breathe deeply enough so try to remember to breathe deep. -
Dawn I'm putting together a group as well. What companies have been most helpful? This gets frustrating. I've been mostly talking to locals.

I had never had this problem before and now I get it about every 3-4 weeks. Is there something I can take daily to prevent it? Miralax and MoM say not to use for longer than a week. HELP!!

I am 5 + weeks out and only now starting to feel minor hunger occasionally. What you have is probably head hunger. -

Protein smelly shakers!
Pam Peltz replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Got mine at Walmart. Less than $7 -
Don't think about what you can "never" have again. Those are very few. I can eat most anything I want. Somethings I can only enjoy a taste of, others I can have a regular serving of. It's just a matter of time and you will be SHOCKED that you don't even want those other things. (If you do, a taste is enough to get through the craving). It is amazing how your tastes change. YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT AND COME OUT THE OTHER SIDE STRONGER AND SLIMMER AND MORE CONFIDENT!!
