  1. my nutrition/dietician person offered two choices, optisource (can buy at walgreens) or Bariatric fusion. She told me a flintstones is not adequate, YMMV! I was very interested in opurity, because you only have to take one a day versus 4, but my nut said I would have to take a lot of extra stuff. For calcium, try the Calcet soft bites, I really like those. She gave me some other chewy sample one, but it wasn't as good, I can't remember what it was, either.
  2. Hello! I'm a pre-op, and I am curious from the post-op side, at what point did you start to see resolution (if any) of obesity related health conditions, like diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, knee pain, etc? The one I'm most curious about how you would know is sleep apnea. Do you have to go for a repeat sleep study, and is there a point at which you are advised to do so by your doc? my sleep apnea comes from both my weight but I also have a severely deviated septum, so its possible my sleep apnea won't resolve without treating that. Not sure. Diabetes seems easier --if we are checking our blood sugar we'll probably see a downward trend in daily readings and then the A1c would drop. But how soon did it happen for you if it did improve or resolve?

    December sleevers!

They do a clothes swap in our support meetings, too, I am hopeful I might pick up some things that way (crossing fingers!)

Here we all are! Introduce yourself!

You are right! I love your attitude, and I'm working on developing that attitude in myself. I've been fat for so long, it will be an adjustment for sure.

    December sleevers!

Oh, the subject of clothes....I started a new job in May, and I had to buy a fair amount of new (expensive) clothes because I travel and present to clients fairly regularly. A couple of years ago I purged all of my smaller sizes because I was sick of having them around reminding me I couldn't fit into them. So this journey downward is going to be expensive. I think consignment shops and clothing exchanges are going to have to be my friends. At the beginning of November, I bought an expensive suit because I was supposed to go to NYC to present to a very large client and it had to be super formal. I was excited to buy a size 22 for the first time in aeons, but then the visit got postponed because of a reorganization in that company, and now will likely not happen until the new year. So it leaves me wondering a) if I will be able to travel and survive during the full liquid phase and  will the suit be too big? :biggrin2: :biggrin2:
  6. Terry, that is just awesome. I am wondering if I will ever get off the metformin, because I was on it for PCOS at a lower dose before I was on it for diabetes. Any ladies with PCOS care to share if they had to stay on metformin?

    December sleevers!

Woo hoo, there are lots of us. Excited and nervous!!
  8. I am excited, because I got my date! Yay! 12/21. But it comes with a caveat, that my surgeon will be leaving basically after my surgery for vacation, so my followup care will be with another doctor, and if there are complications, they would be handled by another doc. I know all the docs in the practice are competent, I didn't have a strong preference for one over another, other than this guy is the one who has done far and away the most sleeves in the practice. Should I be concerned about this?
  9. oh this is reassuring. Thanks for the votes of confidence. The way the scheduler said it so uncertainly, it made me feel like maybe there was something I wasn't thinking of. But maybe she is used to people being deeply attached to their surgeon, I just don't feel that way, they have such good experience, all of them. FavoredOne, we should exchange #'s to text each other while in the hospital and give support!

    Acid Reflux = Chronic Coughing?

very possible. I'm pre-op and was recently diagnosed with "silent reflux" -- LPR, in that I don't have typical reflux, I don't feel heartburn or feel stuff urping back up, but the acid is still coming up and damaging my throat. I was coughing like crazy when I laid down, and also sometimes during meals, my throat was much more sensitive to something disturbing it, and causing a coughing fit. He prescribed a med called Dexilant, which kicks reflux's *ss. My symptoms have gotten much better. I hope it will work for me post surgery.
  11. Oh, I see, I think the way I worded it might have been confusing. What I meant to say is, my doc would do the surgery, another (single) doc would be the one doing the followup.
  12. All of them at this practice are super experienced, so for me its kind of "shrug" in fact -- the one who would be doing round and would be on call is the guru with the most experience, so in some ways, may be better.

    December sleevers!

I got my date! And its the date I want! 12/21. The caveat is that my surgeon is leaving for the holiday, so if there are complications, another doc who is on call would have to take care of me. Should I worry about that?

Eating Out -- What Do You Eat?

That is just so awesome. this thread is SOOOOO useful to me, thanks to all of you for sharing what works for you when you go out and how to manage special ordering. I really like the ala carte/sides idea too. Although it will be a long time post-op before I can do any of these, I'm going to save a link to this thread! This is awesome! Keep em coming, I'm sure everyone will appreciate the suggestions!
  15. After reading poor Forensikchic's post (I hope you get better soon) it leaves me wondering about our risk when we get a stomach bug post op. If we get stomach bugs, do we need to do things differently? Are we more vulnerable to dehydration or other complications from a simple stomach bug? Are there any other common conditions that become more dangerous for us than other people?
  16. Thank you all for relating your experiences. This is really great to get some perspective on what others have experienced. You know, the one weird thing is, I am VERY dependent on my CPAP, really, its like a sleep cue for me. I have used it for 7.5 years faithfully, and I find it hard to imagine being able to go to sleep without it... I am sure I am weird that way. part of me wonders if I can have one doc fix my deviated septum while the other doc is doing the sleeve....can you combine procedures like that ? ? :)

1st trip to Costco ... what should i get?

good list. Am I imagining it or was there some kind of meatball that people get there, other than the basic Kirklands variety, that people really like?
  18. Never mind....LOL. Sorry, figured it out. Gallstones.
  19. so sorry for the ignorance, but what is this medication for, and how long do you have to take it after? Does everyone take it?

    I need serious help here...

hope you get better very soon, yuck!
  21. Wahoo! I am happy for you, I am waiting to talk to the scheduler for my date, I am hoping for right before Christmas, but we'll be right close together!

Here we all are! Introduce yourself!

Hi Tina, I just love your picture, you look like someone I'd love to be friends with :smile1: I'm having a hard time with trying out the Protein stuff too. The ones I think I can handle best are Isopure zero carb drinks (orange and grape) and unjury chicken Soup. I also kind of like unjury vanilla mixed with some milk, ice and sugar free salted caramel syrup. It was pretty good. Texture is hard for me, but smell is worse, and that is what is really getting me with most of them. bleah. I love to sing, too, but I've been dealing with LPR (silent reflux) and it has really hurt my voice. Technically I am supposed to be on vocal rest for the next two weeks, but I can't do it.
  23. oh my goodness, what are the next steps and how are you now?
  24. Good treatment for what for your son? Thsi being bumped up lead to me reading every page of this thread, which was very helpful despite some of the unnecessary stuff it contained. I really appreciated seeing people's answers about regret. A must read for pre-ops.
