Thank you for the encouragement! I went grocery shopping and I have all the right foods in the house now. I am trying very hard to stay on track. I will be back at the gym on Monday so that should help. It has been a long journey to get where I am and I decided I am not going back. Forward from here on in! Lynn

I am looking for people in my area who have had the lap band. I had my surgery at Smartshape (SWLC) in Mississauga. They have a support group once a month but it is 3.5 hours away so I am not able to attend. If anyone is in my area I would love to get together for coffee and maybe start a new support group up here. Dr Cobourn's office said he would pay for renting a venue for the group if needed. Lynn

Any Bandsters between North Bay and Orillia?
kyrasgrandma replied to kyrasgrandma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Also wanted to mention there is a very good bariatric support group in North Bay but they are all gastric bypass/sleeve and I find I have different issues than they do. Lynn -
I am back after a year of not so good eating. I have gained about 10 lbs and now it is time for some accountability! I dont want to gain back the many pounds it took me so long to lose. I crave sugar (mostly chocolate) and ice cream to the point that I cant think straight if I dont have it Someone please give me some tips on how to get over this addiction. It is so very depressing. Had my surgery done by Dr.Cobourn October 2012. Their aftercare is awesome. They have monthly webinars for those like myself who live far away and they also have a monthly support group meeting. I have also had phone calls from the office checking to make sure everything is going ok. I am going to their March 20 support group meeting because I will be in the area that day. You made a good decision to go with him. Lynn in Ontario

The Big Book On The Lap-Band!
kyrasgrandma replied to Alex Brecher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Got a Kobo e-reader for Christmas and the first book I downloaded was yours I am 3/4 of the way through it. I fell off the wagon big time this holiday season and reading the book is helping me get back on track. I put on about 7 lbs and feel horrible physically and emotionally. I am heading back to the gym next week as well as starting yoga tomorrow evening and aquafit next Wednesday. Thanks for writing this book! -
Cant believe a whole week has gone by. Tomorrow I start my pureed foods. I have lost 9 lbs on my pre op diet and another 4 lbs this week. What surprises me is that these last few days I havent felt any hunger. At first I was hungry every 2 1/2 hours. I just have to learn to slow down when eating. In this busy, busy world it is hard to slow down and take some time for yourself. Would love to hear the experiences of other over 60 new bandsters .

I am guessing you have had your surgery today. Congratulations and welcome to the bench!

Ontario bandsters: Which clinic......?
kyrasgrandma replied to Wanna-Be-Healthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
SWLC in Mississauga with Dr. Cobourn. I researched the lap band for almost a year and SWLC kept showing up as being one of the best. Have not been disappointed. I love my lap band ! -

Awesome news! Congrats on getting to goal. -
wow, does it cause you lots of pain or heartburn? Just think how good you will feel once it is fixed. I had a huge hiatal hernia and after being banded and having the hernia fixed at the same time I feel 100% better. No more heartburn and no more stomach pills.

kyrasgrandma replied to MyCosita's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have lost 52 lbs since the beginning of my journey. 42 of those pounds were from my pre op diet until now. I was banded on October 19th, 2012 Best decision I have ever made. Would do it again in a heartbeat! -

What did "outsiders" tell you before Lap Band surgery?
kyrasgrandma replied to lapbandkeira's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told the lap band doesnt work. I would have all kinds of complications. And the best one - If you just buckle down and watch what you eat you wouldnt need wls. Lynn -
I work out 3 x per week for 45- 60 min each time. One day with my trainer, one day in a class and one day on my own. Works well for me. Any more than that and I would probably give up. Best thing I ever did for myself was join a gym.

I also use myfitnesspal.com . I keep my calories around 1100 per day and try to get as much protein in as I can. I start my day with a protein shake to which I add a banana, greek yogurt and frozen fruit. Fills me for a long time.

Messing up with chocolate arrr
kyrasgrandma replied to lovely29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a terrible time with chocolate over the holidays. I put on 5 lbs but as of this morning I have lost 3 of those 5 lbs. I have started adding cocoa powder to my vanilla Protein shakes and that really takes away my daily craving for chocolate. -
I was given a bottle of childrens liquid tylenol but I didnt end up using it. I didnt need any painkillers after my surgery. Guess I was one of the lucky ones. Barely had any gas either.

why does a fill take a few days to "kick in"?
kyrasgrandma posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read about people saying their fill take a few days to kick in. Why is this? I had a fill yesterday and was wondering what if anything I should feel.
