Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?
kyrasgrandma replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am fairly new to this and I can honestly say I dont find it hard. I am on solid foods now and find I can eat just about anything. The only thing I have trouble with is my blood pressure pill in the morning. I break it up and take it with a hot cup of tea but it still tends to get stuck for a bit . I wait for it to dissolve and then take another piece with tea. Takes me forever to get it down...lol I dont eat as soon as I get up because my band is tight in the morning and tends to loosen after about an hour and the hot tea helps. I do have cravings but nothing like they were pre band. I can walk by a display of chocolate bars or cakes etc and not feel like I absolutely need to have it. When I feel I really need chocolate I put some cocoa powder in my vanilla Protein shake, or my cottage cheese with some sweetener or I have a sf hot chocolate. I am having trouble getting my calories in. I seem to get 750 calories a day but cant get any higher. I find I really cant eat much at one time. Usually 1/2 cup of food. I have to really concentrate on getting my protein. Would I do this again? Absolutely , in a heartbeat! It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. -

Cant Stop Eating Choc
kyrasgrandma replied to Renz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about using chocolate Protein shakes to get your chocolate fix. Or adding cocoa powder to a vanilla shake. I used the cocoa powder on my pre op diet and found I had no chocolate cravings at all. In fact I was kind of sick of chocolate after that diet! As for chips - maybe you are really craving something salty? Take some time to think about why you got the band and how great your life will be when you lose your weight. Doesnt mean you can never have chocolate or chips again. Moderation is the key, -
My Monthy Weight Loss Update!!!
kyrasgrandma replied to hopingtobebandedsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you are doing awesome! I am in my 3rd week and have lost 10 lbs since surgery. I was 258 when I started my pre op diet, 249 on surgery day and now weigh 239. I was 272 at Christmas and managed to get down to 258 by October. Took a long time on my own even with going to the gym 3-4 times a week and also working out with my trainer. -
Make sure you get your Protein in and also your Vitamins. Drink lots of Water to keep yourself hydrated too. It does get easier!

It will eventually subside. You have to give your body time to absorb the gas. Just keep doing what you are doing. It does get better!

Way to go!

kyrasgrandma replied to NYTeacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didnt get much gas pain at all. Everyone is different so you may not get it. Yes, you will be able to eat all the foods you like but in much, much smaller portions. As you progress on your journey you will find yourself making better choices as far as the types of food you eat. Keep us posted on your journey! -
welcome shaneman and prepare for the ride of your life! I have only been banded 3 weeks and am loving it!

What Is Your Typical Daily Food Consumption?
kyrasgrandma replied to AmandaBelle75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pretty sure that is normal. The info I got from my surgeon says if I have the proper fill I should be able to go 4 hours without being hungry. -
Yep, its normal I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well and I have never felt better. No more heartburn! I also had second thoughts right up until the surgeon came to talk to me 5 minutes before my surgery. He assured me everything would be fine - and it was!

What Is Your Typical Daily Food Consumption?

I was told to keep between 1000 and 1200 calories and to exercise at least 3 x a week. I am going to start aqua fit next week. -
Wow, congratulations on the weight loss! Hope I do as well at 3 months.
-
If you are talking about the 2 week pre op diet, you are not alone. I went on an eating binge a few days before starting my diet because I had it in my head I would never eat anything again...lol You are normal..lol

Welcome lucricia-b! Keep us posted on how things go.

I also have a couple of back molars missing. I went to the dentist just before my surgery to make sure all my teeth were cavity free. Ended up getting two fillings. I compensate for my missing back molars by taking smaller bites. It does seem to help.

I was at a wedding on Saturday. It was a 5 course meal and I tried a taste of everything including dessert. While the others were chowing down I was moving the food around my plate and taking a small bite here and there. No one even noticed. I found that the urge to eat everything on my plate had disappeared. Love my band for helping me to be satisfied with small portions. Got on the scale this morning to find I had lost a pound!

That is 11.5 lbs gone forever! Congratulations on your weight loss. I have virtually no restriction and get hungry about every 3 hours. I have a little bit to eat and I am satisfied for another 3 hours or so. I have found I have to divide my meals into 5 smaller ones. It seems to be working for me because I am losing slowly but steadily, I am not sure when I go for my first fill, but I think it is about 4-6 weeks after surgery. I will have to check my paperwork. I was banded on Oct. 19th.

I have been on pills for and underactive thyroid for 20 years. When you get the right dosage to keep your thyroid levels normal then you shouldnt have any problem losing weight. I was banded on Oct. 19th and have lost 9 lbs since my surgery.
