Catch Myself Comparing Myself to Others-not good!
kyrasgrandma replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded since October 19th and have lost 19 lbs since surgery day. I consider my weight loss slow compared to others but I am happy to have it come off the way it is. I also had heartburn before my band that I found out was due to a hiatal hernia. It was repaired during my surgery and my heartburn has disappeared. I can sympathize with you because I had gall bladder surgery (but it iwas a couple of years ago) and like you had to have a drain put in. I had it for a week. That was the worst week of my life due to pain and the fact that I couldnt sleep with the drain and pouch hanging outside my body. Hang in there because you are doing really well despite what you have been through. It will get better. Sending lots of hugs your way. -
Protein shakes vs slimfast
kyrasgrandma replied to 2013bandgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stomach cant handle the Protein shakes so I use Carnation Intstant Breakfast with a scoop of 0 fat greek yogurt and a scoop of 0fat cottage cheese. I mix it all with some skim milk and a handful of blueberries or raspberries. Works for me and keeps me full a very long time. -

Carb cycling and alcohol
kyrasgrandma replied to dalia93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you really need 3 glasses. How about having one glass and nursing it all night. That way you will have a drink in front of you and you wont be tipsy enough to eat too much. I find 1 glass of wine is way too much for me now that I have my band. Since I am not eating as much as I used to the alcohol affects me faster. -
Doctor is going slow
kyrasgrandma replied to danielle1992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first fill today. It was .5cc. When my dr. checked the volume of saline in my band before he added the fill he found out I had 2.75cc . So now I have 3.25 cc in a 10cc band. My surgeon had told me he had put 3-4 cc in my band during surgery. It has been 7 weeks since surgery so I am not sure if some evaporated or if he didnt put as much in as he told me. I will go back in a couple of weeks if I start getting hungry around the 2.5 hour mark. At that time he will again put .5cc in. Slow and steady wins the race -
Last year I couldnt even get up off the couch without pain in my knees and back. I would go to the mall with my daughter and have to sit down every couple of minutes because of the pain. I decided to do something drastic and joined the gym. I got a personal trainer for 3 months and she helped me improve my mobility. Eventually I was able to walk for 15 min on the treadmill. Not very fast but I did it. I signed up for another 6 months with my trainer, got banded in October and two days ago I was running on the treadmill. Again not very fast but I did it. The gym I go to is great and put my membership on hold while I recovered from my surgery. If you cant afford a personal trainer, just ask them at the gym what exercises would be best for you and do them on your own there. It wont be easy. Some days I left the gym in tears because of the pain. I still have times when my knee gives out but nothing like it was last year. I walked a 5km race in May. Came in last but boy did it feel good to actually accomplish something! My goal is to run that same race next year so I am working on a modified couch to 5k program on my own. I also think exercising in the pool is great. If you dont want to join a class just walk around in the Water. The resistance helps build up the muscles in your legs. Let us know how you make out.

Non-Fill Today- I'm So Hungry!
kyrasgrandma replied to farmgirl04's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are you hungry because right now you are on liquids. I am getting my first fill on Friday. Was supposed to be last Friday but didnt work out that way. I will be on liquids for the day but back to food the next day. My dr. is only giving .5cc per fill which is fine with me. -

Give your body a chance to adjust to the new foods. Drink your water, get in some walking and the weight will come off. Remember slow and steady wins the race. -
I can eat sushi. I have no problem with it. I just take small bites and chew well, \

You are so right Mayasgram! It gives me confidence and motivation to keep on going -
My dr. told me I could use the treadmill and the eliptical as soon as I wanted but no core exercises or crunches for six weeks. I went back to the gym on Tueday and absolutely loved it! Had a session with my personal trainer.

I eat with my family, just slower and less food. I have no problem with them eating all they want. This is my journey and I am doing this for me. If you cant eat with them, try exercising or doing the laundry etc. Congrats on your 39lb weight loss!

Pressured To Get Gastric Bypass Instead Of Lapband (Dr. Monash)

I agree with everyone here. Dont let him pressure you into doing something you dont want to do. I would ask my dr. to refer me to a different surgeon. -

kyrasgrandma replied to laizaone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you taken your measurements. I would bet you have lost a lot of inches even though the scale hasnt moved. Just be patient and the weight will come off. Congrats on the 47 lbs you have lost! -
How does she feel about the sleeve? Ultimately it is her decision. I picked the band because I didnt want my stomach cut and isnt it cut in half vertically with the sleeve.

You should probably call your surgeon. It could be something really minor but I would get it checked out anyway. -
