  1. i have no problems eating solid food, i can eat chicken and stake and eggs and fish, shrimp, whatever. I ate half of one of those huge chicken breast shake and baked last night, i can slam down 8-9 pieces of sashimi and octopus no problem, lol...i dont need pureed mush, ive been back on regular food for a long time just looking for ideas no hair falling out here
  2. i was sleeved late september with a starting weight of about 312 and i weight today at 248.5, so pretty good i must say, im only about 28 pounds away from my goal of 220... i can eat well and often but still struggle with making proper protein choices throughout the day, i really hate the shakes and just try and eat as much plant and animal protein as i can. any ideas on non conventional protein sources? i am a merchant marine and about to go back to work...man i need my mus. mass!
  3. taco bell bean and cheese burittos, add guac! lol.. i usually eat one a few times a week, hasnt stopped my weight loss so who cares.
  4. well im 3 months out and qualify for the sleeve of steel tag, but right after i didnt use one for 3 week...i use them everyday now with no issues.

    Anybody Else Feel Guilty?

    Alcohol!?

im 2 1/2 months out ( was told none for a year lol) i had on 2 different days a vodka and cran. drank half of it and was def. buzzing. im a 6'3 259 pound man..lol..half a drink folks lol. never finished em either times either ( had them with a meal however) i personally think even though i am not a medical professional in anyway if you watch yourself its pretty harmless...
  7. all great posts. i find myself just eating really what i feel is right. i went on a vacation with the wife this past weekend to San Francisco. ate whatever i wanted, i even ate an entire churrio...yeah..the whole thing...came home..lost a pound while i was gone. we are so restricted in what we can normally eat (lol the churrio "incident" lol..) it really doesnt matter as long as we try for protein first then the rest. dont stress about it.
  8. im 31, down 50 pounds (2 1/2 months post op) off all bp meds, and metformin..
  9. im 2 1/2 months out of op and i hate them now, i get one in if i feel ive been having a bad week with protein but i can eat pretty good now, pretty much what i like, red meat, beans, nuts, shrimp ( i ate like 15 shrimp last night!) just staying away from the carbs. still have lost 50 pounds. i need to increase my protein tho, i know im not getting enough
  10. I took 2 months off. actually more really. i return dec 5th, but i am a merchant mariner who works and lives on a ship, overseas away from normal life, so i needed the time to heal, 2 months or so out, 50 pounds lost! :Banane55:
  11. if im in a rush i grab a double cheeseburger and eat the 2 beef patties. no bread. sometimes ill get a bean and cheese burtitto from taco bell.. i live a fast paced life. im about 2 months out, and can eat all of this no issue. worst thing ive done is have some candy and bits around holloween, but ive lost about 40 pounds in 2 months, i dont think it will kill me. its all about moderation. if you eat a cupcake, stop at one! dont eat 3... whats this stuff i hear you can never have popcorn again? that sounds pretty crazy...

    G*d Da*n Chocolate!

as our blood sugars and weight drop, its ok to have a piece here and there. no one ever said never ever again? well some people do, but i think thats foolish, our sleeves are here to help us control our portion sizes, not restrict us from everything that there is. personally, if i wanted total food group restriction, i would have had a gastric bypass.

Bad and Healthy eating at once

i dont know if this helps or not...i haven't posted in awhile. pre-op weight was 306, im almost 2 months out, weight is 266 ( im a 6 foot 3 male) now. typically i have a Protein shake ( double scoop 43 gram bomb) then i eat regular food. today i had a shake, and well i hate to say it, a bean and cheese burrito with some guac and fiesta sauce from taco bell. took me about an hour 1/2 to eat the whole thing. thats it. i eat some nuts evry now and then, shrimp here and there, but i just try and get my hake protein and eat as much as i can. i have alot of restriction. white meat chicken, forget it. double cheeseburger with no bun, i can eat the whole thing. just totally wierd. but im not gaining weight ( i think im in a bit of a stall, but im not worried about that) my a1c is down to 5.8, and my cholesterol is almost normal. just eat the best you can guys. i am on the go and a high speed low drag professional, so i end up having to grab crap out all the time, its horrible, but its either that, or dont eat at all. ill loose the rest of my weight, but ive almost lost 40 pounds in almost 2 months...i think im on the right track. follow your feelings! -Mike

    Type 2 Diabetes

well here is my addition to this thread, im 30 years old almost 31 (this month actually) i am about 3 1/2 weeks out and before the operation i was a type 2 diabetic, last a1c before the operation was 6.9. had issues controlling my sugar levels and was back and forth between januvia and metformin. i can tell you that i am completely free of any type II symptoms now. y bood sugar runs between 99-140, depending if i have eaten, but usually my blood sugar in the am when i wake up is between 90-104. i am off all my medication as well, when i left he hospital i was off all of it. i am also on a trial run without any blood pressure meds as i was also taking 80mg of micardis a day to control hypertension. i will say that if you are insulin dependant at this point you may not fully get rid of your diabetes, but you will greatly reduce the severity and maybe just go to oral medication for awhile, perhaps once the weight is off you will be able to totally get off the medication. you are saving your life by getting this operation. remember that.

    Dairy?

i am about 25 days out and consume tons of dary ( haha not tons but you know what i mean) i have 2 big 10 oz protein shakes with skim every day, cheeses, yogurt etc.... no issues so far, i hope that i don't have issues.
  16. ill be perfectly honest. when i went in for my 2 week post op visit ( i got moved to mushies! yay!) i had lost a total of 26 pounds since the procedure. we got to talking about numbers and i straight up told them im not numbers driven. i don't care how fast i loose the weight, i loved myself before i had the operation, and i will get down to the weight i am supposed to weigh eventually. they totally agreed with me and not only that wished more patients didn't play the numbers game. lets all get real for a minute. i had terrible type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and the liver of a 60 year old chronic drunk. im only 30. ( 31 this month!) I was on a road, like most of us here were to terrible things. heart attacks, strokes, worrsing diabetes...all these things are either resolved with me ( diabetes is gone) or is almost gone ( blood pressure close enough to normal to not need my meds anymore). if your HEALTHIER then when you were when you got sleeved, you are already 75% there. the pounds will come off. They have no choice. if your only consuming 700-800-900 calories a day, its going to come off. faster for some, slower for others but you will get to your goal eventally. i likely consume on a daily average 15-20 carbs. who cares. thats NOTHING. sure it might goof with the ketosis, but so far for me it hasent. if you lost 5 pounds in a month, thats wonderful. your loosing weight. If your like me and you got sleeved to LIVE, and not just loose weight, the numbers dont mean much in the end. dont fret over a handful of carbs, if your feeling good, your health is on the rise and your loosing some weight, YOUR WINNING! feel good about that

    Question about Prilosec

my doc actually said that continuing the PPI (proton pump inhibitor-the prilosec) helps to heal the stomach faster because the decrease in stomach acid results in a happier tummy. also the decrease in stomach acid controls tummy pains, hunger pains etc as well. i havent had any in a few days but i might start taking it again, im 2 1/2 weeks out and doing pretty well, but my tummy is happier on it.
  18. so i have been doing great post sleeve so far, getting all my Protein, fluids, etc etc.... so ive been starving really for something more solid. i got sleeved last Thursday, and have been following guidelines and stuff. but i got some greek yogurt today, ate a few bites and man! restriction?! what is that new sensation?! weird! it doesnt quite hurt, but i know somehow NOT to eat any more.... feel fine, almost like i need a sip of something ( i hear that can be bad) but im cool! do you HAVE to wait until your doc clears you for the next step? or is it cool to try some mushies at this point? just trying to get a idea of what others have done as far as diet is concerned... -M
  19. yeah i gave up on that greek stuff man its nasty.

    mashed Sweet potatoes

i was told that potatoes, and starches in general are not to be eaten in the beginning as they goof up weight loss ( they convert to sugars) i dont know what to think. seems to be everything in a general guideline. im 14 days post op, ive eaten and chewed up a oz or two of the fake crab meat stuff (its a processed fish called surimi) was totally yummy kept it down no problem. i had some soft processed meat last night, ate 3 oz's chewed it up really well kept it down....im still on the stupid full liquid stage. i ate some odd ball stuff last night and still lost 1/2 a pound. its all about controlling portions, really. Fluid stage...hehe.. dont get off that until Thursday hopefully when i see my doc. i wonder should i even tell him how well im tolerating stuff. they keep these guidelines in place so we dont hurt ourselves, but its a fact that everyone heals differently, and everyone has new tollerances to food out. im about to have a v8 and do some running around for my business. everything is subjective!
  21. Thanks for the well written reply. I ended up doing fine with it last night, it was just a really solid "full" feeling, that was new to me. i almost feel i err'd in posting the event as it really has just spurred me to call my docs office Monday and ask if i can move on to purees/soft foods as it will be the 12th and final day of the full liquid portion, the fact that i am just slamming my protein with no issues, and am not having any other complications. i feel really well, just can tell my body pushing me for more to eat. (even tho im getting 100-120 grams of protein a day..alot but im also 6'3) im also losing about a pound a day, so i know im not getting too many calories in. again thanks for the reply. -Mike
  22. yeah, very true, i got sleeved on the 15th, so im about 9 days out today, but i dont see the doctor until the 29th...so bleh.
  23. i have the same dent and the same pain. im doing good otherwise getting my protein but ready to move on to somthing more solid i got some sad head hunger going on, but i was 306 preop and im 292 today and i just had the sleeve done last thursday.
  24. so all in all im doing great, im getting 100 grams of Protein ( im 6.3) in no problem, along with my fluids, envying the pain killers while they last but i have a question that is concerning me on my lower left side, one of the port holes that was used to extract my giant old stomach sack had a very large swollen contusion area. its very painful, its a large lump protruding out. now i was told that they had to actually "pry" open that area to get out my stomach... has anyone else had a issue like this, im actually slightly concerned its actually a hernia and its my intestines poking into that area. the swelling comes and goes and it is for sure the post painful area i have. any thoughts guys?
  25. hope everything went well! mine we great! slamming the protein and fluids.
