Surgery on a Friday...back to work Monday
FLHgal replied to krps0930's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back after 4 days. I'm a social worker so nothing strenuous. Keep moving around or the gas will kill you. Not all of us are able to take time off, and I did not tell anyone that I was having surgery. Linda -
10 months out and stuck in a rut
FLHgal replied to melissapaige84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you just have to get up in the morning and get through that day. We have been over eating for years; so to have a "in the rut" moment happens. I gained 6 pounds over the holidays. When I looked at what I was / was not doing it was easy to identify. Take a look at your day. My biggest problem was I stopped measuring my food. I also would eat for way over 20 minutes, not stopping when I knew I was full. Back to that clean your plate mentality........even if it took 45 minutes. You can do this !. Linda -
I have not lost any weight in two weeks! So frustrated!
FLHgal replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not lost in the last 12 months, Hit my goal, 165........not the "suggested weight guide" in around 12-13 months. Did some yoyo over the holiday, but back on track with 3 pounds back down to goal. My surgeon explained that what is a suggested weight, does not take into considerations you may have loose skin and areas that add weight but are not really fat. I have not had a fill since 5-12. WE are each unique; don't compare or judge your self. Linda -
Failing...by the book.
FLHgal replied to CoffeeGrinDR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slow down; take a deep breath. Each and everyone of us is different. You hear about those who lose 15-20 on the 2 week liquid....I didn't. You are in recovery and if you are doing it right.....the weight will fall off. I lost my 100 at around 13-14 months....Maybe 20 in the first 2 months including the liquid pre op. Stop worrying that there will be nothing to eat at the party, enjoy the company and approved drinks. Good Luck, -
I'm 26 months out and lost 100 in the first 15 months. 11-30-11. Still doing fairly well and still wearing a size 12. COMPLACENT .........it is so easy to slip back to old habits. I had shoulder surgery in Nov. 13, and laid around the house recovering. Holidays and feeling crappy, I found I was eating sugar.....also found that I had left the 20 minute rule somewhere in the past. I thought I needed a fill; last fill 5-12. When I took the time to process; go back to basic, and work the plan, I know now I don't need a fill. I need to go back to measuring the 1/2 cup....stop eating at 20 minutes, and leave the Cookies alone. I gained 6 pounds over the holidays, and now see how easily I could fall flat on my face. I have lost 2 pounds and I'm determined to do the right thing. Overall it has been a great experience. We are retiring soon and headed to the coast. May even buy a swim suit.,,??? Linda

Been struggling the last few months; developed IBS...not pleasant. Have not even weighed as I have been so up and down due to meds and bloating issues. Noticed my pants are baggy, so dared to get on the scale just now. met my goal of 165; which took me to 103 pounds lost in 1 year 20 days. After 60+ years of dieting I have found some peace and comfort in my new life. My next goal is to have my second total knee replacement, to help with exercise and life in general. I will continue to work as a social worker, rescue dogs, and ride my Harley. All in all life is good. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and to all a GREAT NEW YEAR.

Protein shake concoctions
FLHgal replied to nicolemm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite, and only shake is vanilla protein, skim milk, and sugar free Chia tea concentrate. Love it and low calorie to boot. Adding fruit/sugar and peanut butter/fat ? Need to look at additional calories. Good Luck. -
Sugar, no protein, probably should consult with your surgeon before something this risky.

Medical issues can give anyone a set back, sorry to hear about yours. So now you are back at it, getting your fills and starting over. I wish you the best of luck with your weight and medical issues.

I has big problems the first couple of months. However by month 6, I could drink milk and or any dairy products. Hope it gets better.

Well this has been an exciting year with so many changes in my life. Did not reach my goal of 100 pounds this first year. Will settle for 96 pounds. In October I developed IBS, and it has really created some problems. Taking meds and feeling ok; but has changed some of the foods that I can eat and I have been at this plateau for sometime. Went in an visited with my nurse manager for my yearly, I have lost 66.4 pounds of body fat; but have lost what they consider too much lean mass. All in all it has been great; would not change anything. Wishing you all success in your journey.

I think the chewing is more important than the size of the bite. I do a working lunch once a week. If we do Mexican...I order a taco and eat filling only, other wise I get a cup of soup. I talk so much I don't think anyone notices what I eat. We have all had "stucks"...sometimes I am physically sick for hours afterward. CAUTION: My husband had a "stuck" and could not keep anything down for 3 days (over a weekend)...by the time he got to the dr. he had lost 9 pounds. The dr. pulled out all fluid and had him drink a glass of water..while the fill syringe was in, and then put the fluid back in. It was determined that whatever it was...was not going down. CHEW..CHEW. CHEW.....

You have to understand that the band is a tool to assist you in life changes. The band does not stop the fork from leaving the table...my husband's favorite saying. I think it is important to never take the band for granted....sometimes I look at the scale or the mirror and think how good and how easy a ice cream would be, and it probably would not hurt me...Stinky Thinking. You really do have to retrain your brain. Is it easy; for some people it is, it has been constant work for me, but well worth it. THEY say this is a journey....hold on...it can be a bumpy road........Good Luck
-
Gave up pasta; a real sticker for me...one bite and I was done. You will be surprised that you really do not miss foods that were soooo important. I would love to have some hashbrowns, can not eat re-cooked potato. I do have a baked potato occasionally....it is my big carb splurge. Oh ya; I would kill for a grilled cheese sandwich...but I'd rather be wearing these size 12 jeans. DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL BE MISSING....IT'S JUST NOT IMPORTANT ANYMORE. Good Luck

It is a hair follicle test, they pulled out several strands. Exposure to smoke will not be in your follicles. I did not smoke; but my surgeon tests about a week prior to surgery.

Had surgery on Wed. and returned to work on Monday. Of course I'm a social worker and do in home therapy so not physically demanding. My husband had his on a Tues. and returned to work the following Tuesday. Everyone is different, you won't know until then. Good Luck

The November 'band'wagon!
FLHgal replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My year anniversary is 11-30, down 96 and at a slump...probably emotional. Opted not to do Thanksgiving with family last year, stayed home and had soup. Wishing all of you great success in your new life. Just remember....it/band is only a tool to help you learn how to live a new lifestyle. Good Luck -
60 to 75 grams of protein every day will stop the loss and help it begin to grow back. Meat and salmon cottage cheese. Vitamins are needed but for the minerals. I always check protein count,,,rather than calories. I am 9 months post-op and down 96 pounds no hair loss at all.......Good Luck
-

Does Getting Lap Band Affect Marriage?
FLHgal replied to heathernl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have always wonder about this issue...I do believe a good/solid relationship will be enhanced when one or the other partner makes BIG changes...we are talking about weight loss...the question could also be looked at when a person moves up in the job market. We have been married 40 years and this has been a wonderful year for both of us.. -
i went about 2 weeks over filled..i could not even drink water until around noon. doc only took out .25 cc and i have been good since april...my year is 11/30....hope to surpass my goal and reach the medical recommendation goal of 157...good luck.

JUST KNOW THAT THE FIRST FILL IS NOT THE "ONE"....CONTINUE TO EAT AS YOUR SURGEON DIRECTED; MEASURE...NO SNACKS.....MY ISSUE WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND WANTING TO EAT. SOME ONE WROTE ON THE FORUM: IF YOUR ARE REALLY HUNGRY...YOU WILL BE SATISFIED WITH A PROTEIN SHAKE....WAS NEVER SO HUNGRY THAT I WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE A SHAKE AT 10PM... GOOD LUCK
-
NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL....BUT COULD JUST BE THE CLAWS OF THE PORTS LATCHING ON. IF YOU SEE ANY RED AROUND IT...RUN QUICK..CALL YOUR SURGEON.GOOD LUCK, HANG IN THERE ....IT GETS BETTER.
