I thought the same thing..."What if it doesn't work for me". I don't think that is possible. Once you are sleeved, its is impossible to not lose weight for the first 12-18 month (Honey Moon effect) because you can only take in 500 calories the first 3 months, 800 calories 3-6 months, and 1200 calories 6+ months. When you are sleeved, you will only be able to take in 1/4 of a cup of food per meal then about 1 cup at 12 months. The period from month 0 to 12 is to help you changes to a healthy life style by relearning how to eat, what to eat, when to eat, and give you time to incorporate exercise.

Can't Shake The Depression
E-girl replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am soooo sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I think most people go through a little of what you are experiencing. I had regrets for the first 6 months. I couldn't really talk about it with anyone because I didn't want people (friends and family) to say "I told you so!" When I spoke to my sugeon and NUT, they said part of it is the changes and mourning of food and part of it will be from changes in mood due to the sudden weight loss (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass/MY00825/METHOD=print). My best friend has bypass and she said she was depressed for about 12 month after having the surgery. Even though she looked great and lost 100+ lbs, she said it took her a long time to except the new eating life style. She really didn't have anyone who could relate to what she was going through because 10 years ago there weren't as many resources. For me, it was 6 months. When I finally got into a small shirt and 4 pants, I realized that I couldn't change the past...I couldn't undue what I have done...I can only go forward. It's now 9 months. I can't say that I don't feel bad every once in awhile but its not everyday any more. You have to remember this is a huge change for us. You are trying to re-learn how to eat and live healthy after years of bad habits, which is not easy but soon you will see the rewards. When you are feeling bad, try to think about the reasons why your did it in the first place and think about all the cool new things you are going to be able to do that you couldn't do before. In 6 months, your family and friends aren't going to recognize you. Blog about how you feel, if you don't have anyone close to talk too...believe me you are soooooo not alone. -
Are you on Full Liquid stage? If yes, I had creamy tomatoe soup with Ms. Dash seasoning, apple sauce, jello, sugar free pudding, cream of chicken soup...anything that was thicker that both but not a thick as mash potatoes.

I think it depends on the person. For me it was about 50lbs (around 3 months). For my husband, it was 30lbs (2 weeks)! I have to agree with geno5150. Clothes make a difference.

I still have a problem with milk. Like you we are big milk drinkers in our family. For my husband and I, it was our drink of choice. We would go through 5 gallons of milk a week, 1%. After getting sleeved, I couldn't drink milk at all unless it was part of a Protein shake. Then I couldn't drink it at all so I switched soy then almond milk...not the same but at least it was something. I still can't drink it straight but I can have it in tea or coffee or to greek yogurt to thin it out or oatmeal or grits. But once a month I try a glass to see if I can handle it. Its been 9 month still no go but I am not giving up! I used to have a problem with tuna but at 6 months I had no problem. My nut said that some people become intolerant to food on a temporary basis. That if something doesn't sit well to try again a week or two later.

Did Your Insurance Plan Have A Minimum Bmi In Order To Be Approved?
E-girl replied to Strangefruit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine had the same but is was 40 or 35 with 2 co-morbid conditions (heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.). But they would also approve a Lap Band for someone with 30 BMI with co-morbid conditions. 50 lbs!!! That seems crazy to me!! I lost 50lb in the first 3 months. My husband lost 40 in 3 weeks! -
I used my iphone to time my bites. As soon as I swallowed and would time out 2 minutes then take another bite. That should help you learn to slow down.

I have chocolate everyday. I put mini semi sweet chocolate chips my yogurt. It about a tablespoon. I get my chocolate fix and antioxidants.

My husband was just sleeves on the 22nd. He said that he didn't even feel it and it was not uncomfortable at all when it was removed. He said he didn't feel it come out.

Surgery In Less Than 1 Hour. Cant Wait.!
E-girl replied to FDclerical's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck! First 4 days are hard and then the rest is smooth sailing. Welcome to the thinner you. -
Totally normal. I was like that for 3 months because it took that long before I could get all my water in. Now I just have a bottle or glass a water on my night stand so that if I wake up in the middle of the night I can take a sip without going anywhere. Also, I am in the habit to take a drink first thing when I get up.

Congrats! Now the real fun begins. When is your date?

What are you eating? Are you measuring your food? Are you taking at least 2 minutes between each bite? Are you chewing 20-30 times before swollowing? Did you have acid reflux before WLS?

6 Months After A Fail Surgery....i'm Thinking I Should Try Again?
E-girl commented on Sleeve-A-Licious's blog entry in Trueme's Blog
Why didn't they do a scan first before they opened you up? That is what my doctor did. It showed that I have a fatty liver and he instructed me to lose X amount of weight before the sugery, which I did. My husband same thing but he was still big but not so big that they couldn't continue. Ask if they can do a scan the week before so that you don't have to go through that again. -
Federal Blue Cross And Plastic Surgery
E-girl replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I went to a plastic surgeon today and they use FedBCBS and he said that he has never had much sucess with getting it approved. Are you using a plastic surgeon? Are you only getting panniculectomy (the skin removed) or are you having an abdominoplasty (ad work, lipo, etc.)? -
Very Upset Right Now
E-girl replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a guy at work say something very similar. My response was something like "You are sooo right! Why didn't I think of just dieting and exercise before? What a novel idea! Oh that's right I did try that and look how successful it work for me over the past 30 years. I lost at least 300lbs in 30 years. Diet and exercise alone works so well for everyone that over 50% of America is overweight or obese". Of course I did this in front of a bunch of people at work. He felt like an idiot like he should have. He only has nice things to say now. ???? -
I don't think you have stretched your pouch but be careful with vomitting all the time. That could lead to other complication. I couldn't eat tuna for the longest time. My NUT said that it could be because it was too dry or that I am just not ready for it. Normally, tuna is a great option for sleevers in the begin but not for me. I kept trying once a month until I could eat it...that took 7 months. I was unable to eat tuna for 7 months! I didn't throw up every time but I did get 2 bites in and started feeling nauseous so I would stop. It was very frustating because tuna is so easy to pack for lunch. I would try different types because some are more moist than others...like I couldn't and still can't eat tuna in olive oil but I can eat tuna in sunflower oil or water. My NUTs advise was to keep trying, said it is not ususual to have an intolence to food I used to eat. She said if there was a food that didn't agree with me to wait a couple of weeks and try again.

I Cannot Wait To Wear_______(Fill In)
E-girl replied to Diamondeyed's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
To wear regular heeled boots off the rack. -
Oatmeal is a good food option. There are some high protein oatmeals out there or you can add unflavor protein power. I add nuts and dried fruit and spenda. Oatmeal is a good source of fiber.

Everyone fears that but it is physically impossible to not loss weight when you are taking in less than 500 calories a day for the first 2 weeks and 800 calories during week 3-8. The first week you may not see a change because you are pumped up with soooooo much fluids. I actually left the hospital 10 lb heavier and so did myhusband, who just had surgery last Monday. He now down 20 lbs, 10 lbs of water and 10 lbs of fat. You will do fine. Just don't freak out like I did when I left the hospital. I looked and felt like a giant water ballon.
