    Relationship question

There is nothing u can really do or say. He will have to work out his insecurity issues in his own. I told my husband how much i love him and how great he was and how perfect we were together He was fine with my sleeve. He loved all the compliment he was get on me that was until all of his buddies kept telling him "Dude, she going to leave u". So he got sleeved too. Now we match.
  2. My doctor was concerned with dehydration in the beginning bit said it was ok after u get closer to ur one year mark. I only have one cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate a day and I have had no issues. I am 10 month out.

    Red sore knot on arm.

Call your general practitioner an ask to speak to a nurse. If its really sore I was go in. Better safe than sorry as they say.
  4. I had the same problem...eating to fast! I used my phone to help me slow down. I would take a bite, chew 25 times, then set the timer on my phone for 2 minutes. It helped me learn to slow down. Now I don't need it. But it took months to really break the speed eating habit I learned as a kid.
  5. Pain meds...lots and lots or pain meds. And a time machine so I could fast forward to 8 week...ha ha! Seriously, my best purchase was a wedge pillow that u can get at a pharmacy store. It made sleeping easier. It made it easy to get out of bed to because I wasn't in a complete laying down position.

    mommy issues

OMG...I am 40 and still have mommy issues. I didn't tell my mommy until after I was approved and had a scheduled date and I told her in a public place so she wouldn't yell at me. Seriously, my mom is like 4'9" tall and she still scares me! She would complain before she knew about the WLS that I was too fat and that u need to lose weight, that I am gonna die young, then I told her and it was "u dont need that, u need will power, ur just lazy." Now she says I am to thin!!! I need to eat more. I look sick. U can't win so u should just do what I right for u. The journey in the beginning is hard, no lie, but the prize at the end is worth it!

    how this happened?!?

Good luck to u and ur husband. My husband and I are sleeved. I was sleeves first in Feb 2012 and he was sleeved in Oct 2012. I have to say I was very happy when my husband decided to do it too. It is really great to be with someone who understands what u are going through and can support u when ur having a not so good sleeve day (not that there are a lot it those). It nice to share a meal when we go out. It nice to have someone help make a better food choice. It made the journey easier for me and definitely easier for him. We are both very happy with our results. U wish u the best of luck!

I can eat more now, I'm worried

I eat popcorn all the time. Its my go to snack food. And i can eat entire regular bag by myself It does have more good stuff for u that chips. I would avoid chips! If u are looking for something with a crunch like a chip, I ate freeze dried apples. An entire bag has 35 calories! Awesome. Popcorn is a good source of fiber and also an antioxidant compounds called polyphenols, which have been associated with combating cancer, and are commonly found in produce. Of course it's the butter and the salt that aren't so great. I do the Smart Pop 100 calorie bags to help manage my portion sizes. They are smaller and lower in salt and butter.

    Shorties...

I am 4'11" and was sleeved on 2/7/2012. My start weight was 208. My current weight in 110-108. I have a small complication of extreme pain caused gas due to stomach acid that developed at the 9 month mark but that was resolved with medication. Very happy now that everything is normal. Best decision I ever made!
  10. You might be eating too fast. Do you get nauseous no matter what you eat or just certain things? My doctor gave me pills for that. It did go away after a few months but I would check with your doc about it.
  11. Its offical...I am 100lbs lighter.

    Wine

I was sleeved in Feb 2012 and last night was my first glass of wine and it was everything I thought it would be. I was really worried because my NUT said you could get really drunk on one glass but I didn't. Granded I had one glass and I took 4 hours to drink it!
  13. Intragastric balloons is a non-surgical weight loss treatment that is not done in the USA because it is not FDA approved. I has been done for over 20 year overseas and was initial developed to help patients temporarily loss wieght in preparation for surgery. It is common in the UK. The ballons can only be in your stomach for 12 months at a time. It is my understanding that the FDA is currently doing a study but it could be years before being approved.

    Ups And Downs

Congrats on the weight loss. I am surprised you didn’t get sick was just seeing food. Once I was sleeved, I found it hard to watch people eat all my old favorites. I too went to Disney, about 6 months after surgery, for a conference. It was great! I walked for 6 hours straight! I never walked for 6 hours ever! And my feet still didn’t hurt after all that. On top of that, it was in the middle of summer and I was surprised how little the heat didn't bothered me. I used to hate the summer but now I love it! It was amazing. Anyway congrats, again!

    Excess Skin!

I have some excess skin but its not bad. I can hide most of it. Working out with weights is a must to minimize excess skin. Although, you might still have some in the end. I would check your insurance first before you say you will never be able to have the skin removed. Some insurance companies will pay for skin removal only (not plastic surgery which incudes lipo and ab tightening). Its called a panniculectomy. A panniculectomy involves the removal of excess skin and fat; whereas a tummy tuck involves the removal of fat and tightening of the abdominal muscle. There might be a clause in your insurance plan that will say they will pay for a panniculectomy if the surgery you had resulted in another complication like rashes and blistering as a result of skin rubbing together such as in a belly hang. But it must be documented so as soon as you get a rash go to your PCP and have them documents it each time then submit for approval. There are different levels of belly hang, 1-6, i think, 1 being slight and 6 being at the knee area. I unfortunately dont qualify so my insurance will not pay but I am thinking about getting a loan to pay for my surgery though my doctor's office or pulling it out of my retirement account (worst case) or both. I have time so I am saving up a little each month. Also check with your bariatric surgeon, they usually have a list of doctors they recommend and sometimes its cheaper. Also you have 2 years before you will be able to get plastics anyway. The 2 years to save up! Dont give up hope...Good luck.

    Does Anyone Else Hate Eating?

I am 9 months post op also. I don't exactly hate eating but I don't love it or enjoy it anymore either. There are days when I get a sad because someone is eating something that I used to love like cheesecake or a burger from Red Robin but then I remind myself that those foods put my health and life at risk. Lots of the foods I used to eat, I avoid now because I can't tolerate them but most of those foods were unhealthy to begin with. Everytime I get a little depress about not being able to eat, I look at my before and after picture on my iPhone. I now go for foods that I know will be easily tolerated like salads, oatmeal, yogurt, tuna salad, fish, soft cooked veggies. The one thing a really miss is a big glass of ice cold milk. But I am a size 0 now with no high blood pressure, no pre diabetic signs, normal heart function, no back pain, no ankle pain, no knee pain, no snoring, etc... I can live with getting a little sad 3-30 mins meal times a day in exchange for a healthier me.

    Gurgling Noises?:-P

I am 9 months out. My stomach makes noises all the time...no rhyme or reason. Its really annoying actually. Its the only thing I don't like about the sleeve. I could be sitting a cube sipping on hot tea and growl...growl...growl...gurgle gurgle. My cube neighbors all laugh or make comments like "hungry much" or make faces (some not so nice). I just want to crawl under a rock! My husband was sleeved too and he doesn't have or make any noises at all. It kind of sounds like a burp that is on its way up but never comes out. Sometimes its uncomfortable. I hope it goes away soon but I am afraid I will just have to live with it.
  20. Well, its been 9 months since I was sleeved. I am very happy with the results. In fact, I don't think I have ever been this thin not that my goal was to be super thin. It really weird to see my reflection. Kind of a nice surprise everytime it happens. Now that my husband has been sleeved too, it is even easier to make good food choice. Nothing was worse than having to try to order a health food option off a menu when everyone around you is ordering cheeseburgers and fried chicken. Its nice to have somewho is that closed to me to truely understand my food challenges. Not that he was wasn't supportive before the surgery...he just can relate more now. I have lost 96.8 lbs. I started at 208lbs on December 2011. I don't have some excess skin but to be honest it not that bad. There are only 3 areas that really bother me and I saw a plastic surgeon for those areas last week. I have excess skin in my arms, belly, and butt. The good thing is that I only need two surgeries to correct these areas. The bad new is the its going to cost $15,000 to fix it. The one thing I was really pleased with is that I am a canident for a short scar arm lift brachioplasty. The short scar arm lift is achieved by tightening the skin of the upper arm and making an incision in the armpit instead of an incision from the elbow to the armpit. The other really good news is I can take care of my belly and my butt in on operation for a lower body lift. This doctor even offered to do fat injections in my butt to make it rounder, which I have never heard of. Because its so much, I think I am going to do the arm lift first because that bothers me the most ($5,000) then wait a year and do the lower body lift ($10,000) this will also give me time to save for the lower body lift since its so much.

    Munchie Help Needed

I dont understand why people are told not to eat fruit. My NUT gave me no restrictions other than high protein in every meals, 40g of proteins from shakes, no fried foods, and not to eat anything with 6g of ADDED sugar. Naturally accruing sugar in fruit does not count. I eat fruit all the time, bananas, grapes, apples. My new snack food is freeze dried apples. I get the crispy crunch like a chip without the greese and they are only 35 calories a bag. Awesome!! Ask ur Nut if u can have fruit.

    Sleeved On Thursday 11/15!

OH... and make sure you have all your food that you will need for the first 2 weeks so you don't have to send someone out to get you the wrong thing. Clear Liquids only (Chicken, Veg, and Beef Broth, Decaf Tea and Coffee-no creamer, Spenda, Crystal light, sugar free apple cider, sugar free popsicles) and protein shakes with at least 20 grams of protein per serving. Don't even think you can have bread, rice, or pasta. All three will expand in your stomach and could possibly cause a leak. Also I did liquid vitamins for the first 2 weeks but you can do chrewable tablets (no gummies).

    Hair Loss Prevention!

Hair loss occurs for two reasons...lack of protein and the body reaction to major surgery. Your body is trying to repair itself and you are not able to take in the same amount of protein and calories as you did prior to surgery. When this occurrs, your body has to prioritize what it need to do with the calories you are taking in...A. repair the body and maintain organ health or B. grow hair. It's going to choice "A" always! Hair loss is usually temporary occuring between month 3 and 6. If it continues beyond 6 months, then you need to increase your protein intake.

    Sleeved On Thursday 11/15!

Congrats!. Take a small pillow with you so that you can hold it on your belly if you need to cough. Make sure you get all your pain meds filled before you leave. I recommend liquid pain meds so that you don't have to crush the pills (yuck). As far as class, I think Monday will be too soon. The first 4 days are the hardest and most uncomfortable. By day 8, you should be well enough to go to class but ideally 14 days is preferred. My doctor stated that 8 weeks is when I was able to go back to normal exercise.
