A New Day

I am scheduled for VSG with Aceves October 10th, so excited!!! I have a couple things I want to discuss with you all that have BTDT. First of all, how will I function without caffeine?? I'm afraid I will be feeling horrible without it and Dr. Aceves says no caffeine for like the first couple months I think. Also, I have only told my husband and my mom about the surgery. My mom is worried for me, I knew she would be. My husband thinks it's a crazy idea. I am really having to stand my ground and insist I do this not only for me but for him and our 5 children as well. I purchased our plane tickets last night so there is no going back. We talked a little while ago and I was telling him how I am so uncomfortable going in public since I've gained weight and that I wish I could go into hiding for the next year until I've lost most of my weight. He is naturally thin so it is very hard for him to relate to my weight struggles. He said he is worried that I will never feel good about myself, even after I have the VSG and lose weight. I just don't know what to say to that.

Thanks for the responses! I'm afraid I will be really hard to live with sans coffee...... I don't want to be a grouchy wife and mom. Speaking of being a mom, is it hard preparing meals for your family after VSG? Knowing you can't eat it or maybe only a tiny bit?

Hi, I'm in Crestview, FL! Small world!!! I am scheduled with Aceves Oct. 10, never heard of Althar. Is he still practicing here? Do you know what his VSG self pay price was?

The sweating and clamminess can be a side effect of ketosis. You are likely in ketosis which just means your body is in fat burning mode. I havn't had my VSG yet but I remember ketosis from my low carb days. As far as the other stuff, what does your dr say?

OK, good to know! I drink organic coffee with organic cream, can't be that bad, right? I will try to hold off for the fist few weeks though. Yes, that's exactly how I feel now. I don't want to go anywhere because I'm so embarrassed and uncomfortable at this weight.

Hi, I have pretty much decided on Dr. Joya for WLS in Peurto Vallarta, probable mid October. I am still going back and forth b/w RNY and VSG. I would prefer the safety of VSG but am scared I won't lose enough weight with it or keep it off. My BMI is 36 and I want to lose 80 lbs. Please help me decide! TY!!! Also, on Dr. Joya's site it says those with auto immune issues should not get RNY but no warning like that for VSG. Anyone know why that may be? Don't they both leave titanium staples in you?

Thanks for all the comments! The latest update is....... I'm having VSG on October 10th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali!!! I'm so excited I can't sleep at night, literally!!! I was gung ho on Dr. Joya until I read a horrible recent review on his own website which led me to compare his and dr. Aceves credentials. Well, I decided to pay the extra couple K and go with Dr. Aceves. I can't wait!!! In other news, my hubby keeps telling me I don't need the surgery just need to exercise more. Uggghh, skinny people do not understand AT ALL!

I think I am 95% sure I will go with VSG. I am somewhat concerned about not eating right and regaining. I lost over 120 lbs on Atkins 8 yrs ago and have gained 80 back by eating sugar and junk again. I'm just hoping the VSG will reduce my cravings eough so I won't go down that same path again.
