  1. Paola, I love to watch cooking shows too and I'm 9 days post surgery. I've been cooking all kinds of Soups for my puree stage and I love the smell of toasting bread and everything else for that matter. I'm just not interested in eating. I think I might have to go on a schedule because it's hard to tell when I'm hungry if at all. I know what full feels like though. I enjoys tastes, but have no cravings -- well the smell of popcorn was tantilizing and I did crave oatmeal the other day. the though of overly rich and/or fried foods turn me off. Yiur dad just doesn't understand. He should read this thread.

    Am I Being Ridiculous?

That's just it. She's not happy; she's rationalizing. I'm not judging; I'm making an observation.
  3. It just amazes me about the differences in post-op nutritional requirements. I will be on Clear liquids until 2 weeks out, full liquids for another two weeks and then mushies for another two week. When I read "Sandwich" my eyes nearly bugged out. My surgeon is a tyrant
  4. The morphine made me sick too, but it wasn't nausia. I just stopped taking it in the recovery room as i wasn't in any pain except for the gas and I knew I could walk that off. Full liquids. WOW! I don't get those until the 25th - two weeks post-op.

    Am I Being Ridiculous?

I'm not stopping until I hit my goal. 130 is still in the normal range, but the surgeon said 110. I know that is too thin. I was 110 in my 20s and was wraith thin. I don't think it would look good on me - you know, no boobs and no butt like my size 0 Asian friend - God love her. I think the lady gave up and was making excuses. Why would anyone want to stay obese after all this?
  6. Nanner is very cute. I guess I didn't care to name my sleeve. It's part of me; the same old stomach -- just banana shaped now.
  7. I had my surgery on the 11 of January and my Surgeon has me on Clear liquids for two weeks. My husband didn't want to eat around me, but I keep telling him I'm not hungry. it's all I can do to drink the liquid. Seriously takes me all day to get 64 oz down. So under 300 calories for two weeks? Can that even sustain a body? I'm reading weird stories about people eating popcorn (BOY DID SHE HEAR ABOUT THAT!) and on mushies 2 weeks out. But seriously, I'm not sure I can recognize hunger anymore. Does this change? Also, I'm back down to my pre-op weight. I guess I got the extra Water out. How soon before people started losing? Yeah, I know -- Focus on healing blah, blah, but still ...
  8. Everything smell and tastes wonderful to me too, but I don't really feel like eating it. Weird huh?
  9. I never get movie popcorn. They infuse it with transfat even before dumping the artifical grease on it. I pop the corn at home in a heavy pot with a little olive oil, put it in a plastic bag and carry it into the show with me. I'll continue to do that. Soda and popcorn: my favorite snack! I thought I was over it because frankly, I'm still not hungry. I was in Target last night and as I was standing next to the cooler of Diet Coke, the smell of popcorn wafted over. MAN! Talk about craving. Why can't we have soda?
  10. I went for years asking my PCPs for weight loss surgery. they told me things like: "I don't beleive in WLS" "It's taking the easy way out" "You have no willpower" "Your not a candidate because you have bad habits" "If you can't tackle a regular diet then you can't handle WLS" "You will fail" &c. Those asshats (sorry, I have worse names for them) made me waste years and got to to the point of high blood pressure diabetes, sleep apnea and fatty liver disease. On the other hand, the sleeve wasn't available for WLS back then. They were only using it for stomach cancer. Maybe it's better that I waited. I'd like to go on a crusade to promote sleeve gastrectomy to the millions out there struggling. Do you know that just one week after my surgery my blood pressure is normal and my ecezma is gone. I haven't been itching AT ALL. I got lab work done yesterday. I'll let you know about the other stuff.
  11. Like I said, I think it BS. There is no logic in that at all. You can loose as much weight as you want to. the sleeve is still the size it is and still a tool. It doesn't magically stop working.
  12. Thanks for the exercise tip. I'm walking but not much else. I'm only a week out so will will sit on my exercise ball and do weights. I'll keep walking too. Amanda, store the excess stuff in the garage. I made a special cabinet for my stuff and bring it in as needed. If not garage, then a storage space in a carport? That way you won't get the cluttered feeling. I don't have a sweet tooth either, but I enjoy the shakes. May drink 1/4 cup at a time and leave the rest in the blender in the fridge and whip as needed?
  13. My surgeon again is on the ultra-conservative side. No coffee for 6 months says he. I'm not really a coffee drinker, but pre-op I made the best mocha protein shake. I like chocolate coffee flavor better than plain chocolate.
  14. Thomas, personally I don't believe is maximum surgery results. I started at 246. The surgeon said that we expect you to lose 50% of excess weight which would put me at 183 and still obese. I expressed dismay and he said that you could not argue with a bell curve. I call bullshit. I've been reading these boards for months that are full of people achieving goal in 6 months to are year and a half. I don't think this is a statistical standard bell curve we a dealing with. I would tell the OP to get back on Protein shakes and 1/4 to 1/2 cup meals. Fill up that sleeve with protein and then veggies. Lay off the carbs. and no, you can't stretch out this sleeve. It has a little give, but the stretchy part was removed. Weight loss slows WAY down as you near goal. Beach - your surgeon has support groups right and a nutritionist right? I would go to both of them. Part of the cost of surgery for me was access to the nutritionist and weekly support groups. If not included I would go to the nutritionist that you saw pre-surgery or find one specializing in WLS nutrition.
  15. I am going to continue with Protein shakes indefinitely. I have about 16 pounds of chocolate and vanilla Pro Max and 3 pounds of unflavored Isopure. I would have skipped on the baby food, but SF Jello and pudding powders can be used to flavor Protein Shakes. High protein makes me lose weight and I can make protein shakes that taste like real shakes. You know if you use at least 2% milk in them, they can be made into ice cream. Here's one recipe I use from The world according to eggface: strawberry Cheesecake shake 6-9 oz milk 1 or 2% 1 scoop of vanilla Protein powder 1 tsp strawberry SF Torani syrup 1 tsp SF instant cheesecake flavor 3 frozen strawberries Whip in blender, serve in you best dessert glass with a tiny squirt of fat free whipped cream. The shakes taste good and the possibilies are endless. I even did a pineapple shake.

    I'm Always Ccccold!

Me t-t-t-t-t-too! It may have something to do with the fact that I'm living of less that 300 calories a day.
  17. The nutrition class was $200 and the psych eval was $250. Neither were covered under the PPO. I've spent a small fortune on protein powers and other things as well. I'm of to GNC today to get more clear liquid protein at $55 for 12 bottles. It kills me, but I'm losing a crazy 2-3 punds a day. i didn't even know that was humanly possible.

Will They Sew Me Back Up?

I'm curious if you went on a pre-op diet. That's what surgeons usually ask for to deal with fatty liver. My doctor also had a full abdominal ultrasound done.I wouldn'y think they'd postpone surgery, but I would like to know if it's just a case of fatty liver or something else. I had a further test that ruled out hepatitis which is the next stage of fatty liver disease.

    I Disagree With You But...

I just told the ladies in my choir about my surgery because when I walked in they were dumbfounded at the change in me after only 3 weeks. They said the surgury took 10 years off me. They said they were proud of me for enduring the surgery in order to better my health. My mother has the same hangup your dad does, only worse. She won't even back down in the face of obvious evidence.
  20. I'm only 4 days out i feel like I'm swimming. I have to do 2 weeks clear, 2 weeks full and 2 weeks puree. I hate to whimper, but 10 more days???? Ugh! I'm not hungry, but what I wouldn't give for a tsp of refrieds. How did you all do it? Is my doctor extra strict?

So Sick Of Clear Liquids Already!

I know I can. I was just bitching. i saw the videos of the surgery on Youtube. I do have to admit that the weight is dropping off at a scary pace. I didn't know a person could loose almost 3 pounds in a day. We'll see if I hit that 3 week stall everyone talks about. That will be week two of full liquids. I know, I shouldn't be concentraing on the weight loss at this point, but it's fun when you lose and it's been effortless. Boy do I feel good.
  22. and I'm totally aprehensive about it. I hate it. Tell me it gets better.
  23. I did use the ramp up setting. I couldn;t tolerate a mask so I have the nostril thingies. I was "okay" for a while, but I coughed and then panicked. I took it off. Bad me huh? Can you ever sleep on your side with this? My comfortable sleeping positions are on my side and half stomach. I never sleep on my back.
