    30 Pounds Gone

Way to go. I was sleeved 1/11/2012 and am 17 down since sugery and 30 down since the start of the pre-op diet. To me it's been mostly up. I feel better than I have in years and I get a mini vacation to top it off.
  2. You won't be hungry. Drink them anyway. Just take it from someone who lost 18 punds in 12 days. Your body needs the protein.
  3. I was sleeved on January 11th and I have had a minute of regret. I was bleesed enough to have no pain. What I had was discomfort. I'm beginning to believe that the morphine or narcotics is what makes people sick in the beginning. I had one dose of it and quit. At two weeks out I have lost 30 pounds (that includes the pre-op diet. My BP is 112/77 last taken. My blood sugar is normal, my cholestrol went down 50 points, my lipids are stable. my eczema and rosecea is gone ... I went out to luch with my daughter and got a cup of the best lobster bisque. My daughter had a cup of Soup, a salad and a half sandwich. Did I feel deprived? HEL NO!!! I still cook and I enjoy the taste of food. I don't feel compelled to eat 3 pounds of food at one sitting. Man, who would even miss that???? The doctor gave me permission to exercise with no restrictions. I'm going horseback riding tomorrow!!!! Mourn for quantities of food??? NO THANK YOU!
  4. "Living on reserves" is setting one up for an eating disorder. Eating good foods does not slow weight loss. In fact, if you don't get enough calories, you will stall.
  5. I drank the Isopure gatorade looking things for my first to weeks. They qualify as clear liquid and have 40 grams of protein per bottle. Best to keep your protein alway now between 70-90 grams a day. You wnat to heal and be building muscle in place of the fat. When you start eating solids, then lean protein always goes into your sleeve first, the veggies, then fruits and them finally complex carbs. Not much room in there so the carbs a teeny amounts.
  6. is normal. My blood pressure was 112/77, my good cholestrol is up, my bad cholesterol is down 50+ points, my lipids took a 100 point dive. My PCP is amazed. Sorry I'm posting new topics so much, but I can hardly believe this. As mentioned in another post, my eczema is gone, my rosacea seems to have disappeared and I feel better than I have in years. It's amazing how crappy was my old normal. Oh yeah, I down a size in pants and shirts. The only thing of concern is that I have a temp of 100. This big incision might be a little infected. I see my surgeon later today.
  7. I've got one of those doctors that think once you are diagnosed even if you have normal reading, you are a diabetic for life. What's up with that?

I hope to God you are in the ER or hooked to an IV. Dehydration can be LIFE THREATENING and it's been 2 days since you posted.
  10. While I really love zuchinni and such, when I get eating I am going to eat smart carbs and will indulge in 4 oz. of pizza. If having Pasta, I will eat 4 oz of sausage and a tiny amount of whole grain pasta. I want to get to the point where I eat like a normal thin person. I will have that bit of zucchini on the side. Speaking of Italian squash: have any of you ever had zucchini and eggs? This is an Italian recipe from Hell's Kitchen. I got it out of a book of memoirs. It's really good. If you make 1/6 of this recipe, the amount of bread crumbs would be negligible. We would skip the toasted rolls. It's good on its own. Zucchini Sandwich 1 pound zucchini, coarsely shredded 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 large onion, minced 1 clove garlic, minced 1 cup Italian bread crumbs 6 Large eggs 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan, Romano, Aged Provolone or Cacciocavallo (my favorite) 6 rolls, toasted Drain and squeeze zucchini dry. In a 12-inch frying pan, sauté onion, garlic and zucchini in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. In large bowl, mix together cooked onion and zucchini, Italian bread crumbs, eggs and cheese. Place remaining oil in omelet pan and ladle in 1 cup portions of zucchini mixture. Cook over medium heat about 2 minutes on each side. Fold in thirds and keep warm. Serve on toasted rolls or bread. Makes 6 servings. Sorry if I made someone hungry, but dammit, I still enjoy cooking and food. I just am not a glutton anymore. Thanks for all the feedback!
  11. Not Dominoes junk, but from a really good pizzaria. My husband and daughter were totally feeling guilty. I just walked over and smelled it (I love to smell food) and they yelled, "Don't SMELL it!!!!" Honestly, I have no desire to eat it, but they don't believe me. I guess because before I would have eaten half the pizza. Also, I went down to size 16 pant and a size Large top. I was busting out of an 18 and a XL pre-surgery.
  12. I'm not yet two weeks out. Thanks for the kudos, but it wasn't willpower. I'm just not hungry at all. Weird. Yeah, the smell of popcorn drives me wild. My favorite snack is/was stove top popcorn and diet coke. The over-sweetness of everything I have to drink is a pain in the arse.

I've never heard of having to get pre-authorization for an emergeny room visit. Usually you go to a covered hospital and then ask for a co-pay. Whay about your Primary car doctor? I would first start with caling the on-call surgeon in the practice that did your surgery.
  14. That incision broke open and bled quite profusely the first night home. My fault. I bent over and twisted. The doctor just told me to put a gauze pad on it. I did one better and got some butterfly bandages. I leaked a bit for a few days, but now it's good.

    "cheating" (A Concern)

You hit on something. I could go to costco everyday and live off samples LOL!
  17. I should have put a after that! I was just blessed to be close to pain free, What I had was discomfort and like others, I hate narcotics. For those who are in pain it lets them rest so they can heal. For those who are just uncomfortable, it may cause more problems that it's worth.
  18. I took two shots of morphine in the revovery room, felt like crap and never took another dose. They sent me home with an RX for this huge bottle of Vicodin. Never took it. Anybody want some Vicodin/oxycodone? I never was in any pain except for the gas which I walked off. How could I have walked it off all drugged up? Besides, narcotics mess up you digestive system. Things slow down and don't move well.

This is what happens when I don't have anything in my stomach: It cramps, I get nausiated and then I produce a lot of saliva that I have to spit out. You are getting dehydrated. Lissa is right. Get to the ER.
  20. I have been on these for almost two weeks. I recommend them wholeheartedly. They are pricey, but worth it. You get 80 grams of protein and 40 oz. of liquids if you drink two a day. Four days seems way too soon for full liquids, but many people manage it. The rule is: If it hurts, go a step back. I should have read the whole thread. Lissa said the same thing I did about the protein shots.
  21. Be careful of those. They do not contain whey isolate protein, but cheap collagen from hooves and such. Your protein should come from eggs, milk or good meats.

    Am I Being Ridiculous?

My surgeon said 110 pounds and that is on the lowest end for normal. I remember 110 pounds. the Army said I needed to gain weight before starting basic. I was WRAITH skinny. My stated goal has always been 130. I do not need to be a size 0 thank you. There is no way in hell I would settle for the "average" 50% of excess weight lost (which I think is BS). I'd still be obese. I didn't go through this to be "a little more healthy." I did this so I can go to waterslide parks, the beach, hiking up Mt. Whitney ... The woman gave up.
  23. I was sleeved on Jan.11th and after 9 days the rosacea is gone. My face is smooth for the first time in years. my eczema is gone. There is no more itching and my skin is healing. My knees dont hurt walking down stairs, The bags under my eyes are lessening, On monday I will get labs back. I'm only hoping the HPB, pre-diabetes and fatty liver are gone or are improving. Fact is: I feel great. I guess pain and unwell feeling were my old normal. i didn't realize I felt so bad.
  24. I love the people on this site too. You are all so courageous. Every one of you should be proud for being pro-active and meeting this horrible health issue head on. I am truly blessed to be recovering so well. I haven't had pain meds since the recovery room (I hated the morphine) and right now I have so much energy I feel like jumping up and down. My only small complaint is that I think I am constipated. I know there's not much to make a BM (TMI?) from, but I did cheat and have a bit (1/8 cup) of oatmeal yesterday and a tiny amount of flakey fish the day before. My sleeve handled it fine. My colon -- not so much. I wonder if Benefiber would do the trick. I don't want to take a laxative.
  25. than sleeve gastrectomy. I got this from my surgical coordinator when I told her why I choose the sleeve: "Well, gastric bypass is the Cadillac of WLS and there are no long term studies for the sleeve ..." and then she went on about the pros of bypass. Also from family - they thought bypass sounded better because it's reversible (who does that? Reverse a bypass I mean?). To me the sleeve is far superior because you keep your own stomach, can take steroids, keep your stomach and valves, less chance of dumping, don't have a blob of unused stomach in your body, is restrictive and does not cause mal-absorbtion of nutrients, etc., etc. I guess the weight loss is slower, but all the better for my skin. What is it with all the negativity?
