    My First Nsv!

Do I ever know what you're talking about! I am sliding easily into booths now too. Another NSV is that I am 4 inched from the steering wheel that just a couple of months ago was poking me in the belly. I can look down and see my lap! Aren't we silly?
  2. I'm so very glad for you!! So many people joining the loser's bench.

    Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

Kim, don't give up. Don't act like this is a failure. Go back to the protein shakes and gradually back on to solid foods again. Meanwhile, get to another bariatric surgeon. You still have your tool, your sleeve - use it!
  4. All surgery carries a certain amount of risk, but this surgery seems pretty darn safe. It's not open abdominal surgery. It's arthroscopic and what they call minimally invasive. Before this I have had 2 open abdominal surgeries (myomectomy and c-section) and one knee surgery. Other than the gas they use to inflate your abdomen, it was pretty easy on me. As long as you keep walking and keep sipping those liquids, you will feel better. Talk to your surgeon. I trusted mine. Talk to God too if you have the inclination :-)

    Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

I do realize that you are telling your story, but this board is full of hopeful people and I guess I would hate someone to get scared and cancel their surgery. Also the virulent self-loathing just took me aback. I've lost over 50 pounds and think I look at a 100% better. For a moment after reading your post I thought: "Maybe I am just a fat cow thinking and feeling slimmer. People must think that I'm disgusting." Then I quickly shook it off and am walking proud again. People here have been through all of the shame and all of the self-loathing and it's easy to fall back into it sometimes. I know bad things happen, but I like to stay focused and positive. You had a bad time, but go on from there. Next time you are in the hospital, have an advocate there for you. My husband was with me almost the whole time. You always have to have someone looking out for you no matter how great the hospital is.

    I Cheated.........

I had a mini Reeses PB cup. scale still said 1 pound down. Seriously, I'm not a gastric bypass patient. I can have a bite of chocolate now and then. Last weekend I had a bite of ice cream. I am NOT, I repeat: I am NOT on a diet. This is my eating for life. Diets fail and eventually you must come off a diet. To say that you'll never have a candy bar again is a sad thing. Just stick to a bite or two.
  7. I don't have much to whine about. I LOVE my sleeve. I loosing about 1/2 pound a day and only hit one stall. My only problem is that food looks and tastes so good, that I'm a little bummed when I get full. Overeating brings me to my second whine. Overeating with a regular stomach meant bloat. Overeating with a sleeve means nausea, stuck feeling and slimes so I don't do that.
  8. You need to be getting nutrition down. Find soft foods you can eat. If it's just discomfort, work through it a little. Spitting food can turn into a habit/eating disorder. Try soups. I liked bean & bacon. I also made some pureed soups that I still like to eat.

    Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

You really have some nerve. I'm 5'2" and 203 pounds. Thanks for indirectly comparing me to a "Fat Wilderbeast [sic.]." Sorry about your complications, but this just sounds all weird and suspect.

    Questions For Veterans

Read more of waning woman's blog. That is one happy woman with NO regrets. The thing is, even at two years out, if you eat too fast or too much, you will get sick for a short while. There will be days when your stomach will be unsettled so just feed it un-irritating things.. Your sleeve might object to a particular food and be fine with it later. The nausea tends to teach you what you are doing wrong. It says, "Not that" or "Slow down" or "Too much." You just have to listen. Personally, this is the best thing that ever happened to me. The only problem I have is cooking or ordering food, enjoying the hell out of it and only being able to eat a little of it. It's like, "yummmmmmmmmmm, shrimp scampi ... oh damn! I'm full!" I still get to eat the good food though, but it was two larger shrimp and a piece of broccoli instead of 10 shrimp, a baked potato with butter and sour cream and dessert. Plus, I get to take the rest home and incorporate it into my lunches and dinners. Glad to hear about the 35 year gastrectomy patient. I wish there was more literature on them. I'm only 7-8 weeks out, but I am happy with how my sleeve works. It's saving my life and I can do so many things now.

    Fruit

The nutritionist at my surgeons office said, "No, you don't want to make it into a smoothie." She was talking about mixing with Water and adding only Crystal Light packets. I use 2% milk and drop a few berries, SF Torani syrup and/or SF Jello powders into them. Maybe blackberry cheesecake this morning hmmmm? Seriously, if I didn't, I wouldn't be getting enough calories. I'm still under 700 now. 3 or 4 small berries isn't going to kill anything. Just go easy. 1/4 of a banana is plenty to flavor a shake too. Some people use Peanut Butter powder in them. My favorite is to use 4oz of coffee and 2 oz of milk with chocolate Protein powder and chocolate Torani syrup. Sometime I think these nutritionists need to get out more. They are too restrictive sometimes.

    Fruit

I'm 7 weeks out and eat strawberries almost every day. They're in season her in California so I go with it. No problems. So far I've had grapefruit, oranges, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, avocado and bananas. I use the fresh stuff as Snacks and throw the frozen ones into my Protein shakes. Keep in mind I had an Iron stomach before surgery and seem to have an iron sleeve. Nothing bothers it unless I eat dense protein too fast. Yes, there are the carbs, but as Meg said, these are healthy ones. I guess the idea is to not overdo it and eat some protein along with the fruit. I like cheese with mine :-)

    Major Bump In The Road

A BMI of 50????!!!!!!! 40 is already morbidly obese. If I had a BMI of 50, I wouldn't be able to move. Insurance companies are just nuts sometimes.

    What's For Lunch?

I'm 2 months out and don't have problems with lettuce, celery, carrots -- anything. Cucumber makes my stomach growl, but that was a couple weeks ago. Everyone is different here. There are some who say they will never tolerate salads. There are some who can't do dairy or eggs or beef. Try a tiny bit and chew well. Remember that it's Protein first and you won't be able to each too much. Today I had 2 oz of ribeye, 1 light Babybell cheese and 4 large strawberries.
  17. More sex. YAY!!!! Seriously, I didn't feel into it. My husband always was, even at my heaviest. Now we are having some fun. TMI? I am also less "invisible" to others.

    Hours To Eat A Slider

I didn't know whether she meant little burgers or slider foods either. In any case, I'm 6 weeks out and don't eat bread, especially a nutritionally empty bun. I have trouble getting all my protein in as is.

    Alcohol Post Op

    You cheap drunk you LOL

    Alcohol Post Op

Personally, I don't believe in the NO-FOREVER list. I mean, unless one is an alcoholic, why the heck not? I'm not a drinker, but I like one occasionally. I certainly take the Eucharist every Sunday and have been since 2 days post-op. I think the no soda forever is BS as well. Yeah, like it's going to pop my sleeve. I can burp ya know. The upper esophageal sphincter works just fine thanks.

    Considering A Real Diet

Whew. Glad I didn't reply. I was going to say about the same thing Circa did. Let me make one distinction. I am NOT on a diet. I pretty much eat what I want. It helps that I want Protein. I have carbs in the form of high protein bread and crackers. Last night for instance, I had some ribeye steak. It's my favorite, but now I skip the fatty part and eat 2 oz instead of 12 or 16. Today I'm having cottage cheese, lobster, shrimp, hummus, yogurt-gorgonzola dip, rye crackers, broccoli and strawberries. I've never had it so good. THIS is a DIET??? P.S. I also had a Protein shake (I make real tasty ones) and a "dollop" of cottage cheese and stayed under 600 calories. I LIKE cottage cheese and I think this IS how REAL healthy people eat. I don't have much room so everything going in is going to taste phenomenal or I don't eat it. As I get further out my portions will grow, but this is how I plan to eat forever.
  22. I can tell that I'm going to have a lot of trouble with that lower stomach pooch, pouch thing. I can pull on a pair of my old shorts without having to unzip them, but I have to pull them over my lower stomach. The waist is getting smaller, but not that thing.

  24. Eat healthy, get pregnant, continue to eat healthy and then do the surgery. It will be here when you're ready. Good luck!
