Losing Too Quick! Am I Crazy For Complaining?
Catracks replied to kenbr14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Short answer: "Yes." Aha, just kidding. There are the issues of regain, excess skin, muscle and hair loss, but as everyone says: make sure you get the Protein and fluids in. I've got bat wings or what do you call them? Ham flaps? on the insides of my thighs now, but I don't care! They were once filled with nasty fat! I haven't had any hair loss yet. I have a lot of hair, but it is the thin strand kind. -
My First Bathing Suit Photo......
Catracks replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Around November I am going to Maui!!! I will get some nice seared ahi this weekend, but no snorkeling for me -
I would use real cream, half and half or whatever milk you are using. Non-dairy is full of chemicals. My daughter use to drink the table coffee cream and I never let her drink the fake stuff. I'm still convinced that very few sleevers dump. We still have our stomachs and nothing is bypassed. I eat a small amount of sugar and definitely dairy. My milk, cottage cheese and yogurt are 2% and my cheese is full fat. Lowfat cheese is a sad thing unless its mozzarella or Laughing Cow. Some people are lactose intolerant and fried food makes them queesy, but dumping happens when sugar and fat are dumped straight into the intestines not fully digested. We still have our stomachs and a pyloric valve that regulates food going into the small intestine. From what I hear both immediate and late dumping are tortuous enough to keep people a mile away from sugar. My surgeon thinks that the sleeve doesn't work as well without this Pavlovian reaction. I disagree -- at least for me.

Cod is a really mild whitefish. I have always found salmon to be extremely "fishy" tasting, but my tastes are changing. I've always liked cold smoked lox, but cooked salmon was always a little weird. I still have to have it barbequed or baked with a well done glaze. I like ahi tuna raw. My dad cannot tolerate fish in ANY form. He can't even look at it or smell it. This will play havoc when we go out for Easter. I am ordering two appetizers: seared ahi sashimi and asparagus in philo. He's going to complain at me, but good ahi doesn't have much smell so it will be his imagination. I'll sit at the other end of the table and maybe he won't notice.

Hormone Grehlin Also Responsible For Memory?
Catracks replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only notice that my memory and alertness have improved since surgery. I think this is from better nutrition and the fact that I do not wake up 60 times an hour to to sleep apnea. I used to be one of the walking dead. -
I don't know about looking younger, but I FEEL younger and I am frankly eating like a gourmet. lunch today brought from home is teriaki sesame salmon on a bed of quinoa with onions and peppers, spinach with balsamic vinaigrette and some lemon protein cake (recipe from eggface).

Eating Out... Restaurant... Fast Food.
Catracks replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just heard that Chick Filet has a kids meal that is low fat and packed with Protein. You can get the chicken grilled and it comes with milk and a fruit cup. Frankly I haven't done fast food yet. I guess I'm really anal and like to control exactly what goes into my food. I won't even eat mashed yam/sweet potato out because I don't know how much butter they stuffed in there. I'm not sure what is in Taco Bell's "ground beef" A 6" tuna from Subway has 470 calories and 24 grams of fat Unless the Sonic wrap is a lettuce wrap is is full of carbs. It has 470 calories, 30 grams of fat (11 saturated) and 38 grams of carbs. That is on the high side of my daily limit for carbs. I'm not lecturing. I'm just giving my reasons why I don't touch the stuff. I'm always surprised when I get the nutritional information from some of these places. I work full time and have kids. I just love to cook and I'm learning for the first time how to do it right. I pack my lunch for work the night before. I guess I'm intolerable like a reformed smoker only I'm a reformed obese person touting all the benefits of ahi tuna, quinoa and Greek yogurt. -
Yeah, I'm pretty jiggly now. I'm hoping as a tone with exercise some will go away. I will always have the c-section belly though to some extent. I'm 46 BTW.

Can I Have Corn? What About Coconut? Why Or Why Not?
Catracks replied to kdippy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, that sounds like it will work. -
Whether it is Water weight, connective tissue, muscle or fat there has been a steady decrease except for a stall at week 3. I don't think anybody can lose pure fat only. I just reported what I saw after a weekend of 5 hours on a horse and 10 miles of hiking. Thanks for the info Ouroborous (eating your own tail?). I've seen the formulae before. At the beginning I was on nothing but Isopure liquid Protein for 2 weeks, then full liquids, then mushies. I'm taking in about 600-700 calories now, 60-70 grams of protein and very low carbs (30 or so). My main point is that I don't see anything wrong with a daily weigh-in if one isn't obsessed over it. It's a habit like brushing my teeth. If I eat badly I do see it almost immediately. That's how my body seems to work and the scale is part of my regimen that includes healthy eating and exercise. I've turned into a health nut. I used stuff anything into my face - even if I didn't really like it all that much. Nuts huh? I now use the rule: "Q: Is it good for me and I like it? A: Eat away." "Q: Is it not the best choice, but I love it? A: Eat in tiny amounts." "Q: Is it bad for me and I'm ambivalent about it? A: Don't touch it." Sorry, I got off topic, but I tend to ramble. About the scale thing -- Like someone said: To each his/her own. If you are getting upset by the numbers then ditch the scale. If you go away for a weekend and you are constantly dwelling on the fact that you haven't weighed in then ditch the scale. If a gain ruins your whole morning then ditch the scale.

Oh wait. Make that 53.
-
Well I guess I've lost 52 pounds of water then. Some days I lose more than half a pound and it stays off. The calorie deficit formula does not work the same for everyone.
-
I eat a few almonds every day. Like everything, I chew the heck out of them. Like I said on some other board: there is nothing that my sleeve won't happily take. I just cannot eat dense protein too fast.

Bananas? Good Or Bad?
Catracks replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I mentioned to the nutritionist that I sometimes throw a bit of fruit into my Protein shake she said that I shouldn't be putting anything thing in there. Hell, half their bypass patients make them with Water. No wonder people complain about the Protein shakes. I've made mine with 2% milk and fruit from the get go. I used Jello pudding powder and Torani syrups too. I wouldn't be sticking a whole banana in there though. 1/2 or even 1/4 will flavor it just fine. -
I agree. If I've gone too heavy on the carbs or salt I will know it quickly. As I said, my weight really does not fluctuate. I normally do not weigh on the weekends.. My bad eating habit if any will show up on Monday. If I eat right and take a long hike I can drop 3 punds over a weekend. This is 3 real pounds because they stay off. I also don't let no weight loss or a .2 gain ruin my day.

Spicy Food - I Can't Stop
Catracks replied to buchannon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ick! Maybe rethink the SlimJims? I seem to recall that they are molded, pressed and formed grease ... and spice of course. I shouldn't talk because I have a dry salami habit. -

Catracks replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Boy, you guys are really hard on yourselves. In that case I should have also mentioned the ice cream soda I had a few spoonfuls of. It was HEAVENLY. It was strawberry from a real soda fountain. -

Ewwwww, I hate those squishy things. Give me a good "snap" dog (sausage in casing) anytime. I plan in the future to get a good Pink's hotdog again (they use Nathan's). Won't eat the bun though -

Not craving spicy food per se, but I love it. No problems with it. -

Catracks replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um, yes. I also do fruit juice and carbonated water. I won't go back to the chemical sodas, but carbonation doesn't give me any problems. Dang, nothing does unless I eat dense protein too fast. -
Surgeon Saids, I Have 1 - 2 Lbs To Lose, But Really?
Catracks replied to Ms skinniness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon wants me at 110 which would make me a size 0 or 2. No freaking way I want to be a stick. I looked malnourished when I was that light. Go for where YOU feel comfortable. -

I ate popcorn and I'm not yet three months. It was SO GOOD! I chewed the hell out of it though. I also have a tiny piece of 72% dark chocolate every day. I heard it was an anti-oxidant and good for you. I can live with that. If I didn't want the occasional treat I would have been a bypass patient. Hooray for the sleeve! -
There was one woman there who wasn't put to sleep because she didn't listen and didn't bring anyone to drive her home. They simply will not let you drive yourself after -- or shouldn't. I woke up pretty alert, but I could tell that I was still druggy because of the feeling of euphoria all day. Give yourself a break. Take the day off. They recommend that.
