Because of her I bought a bento box, a mini muffin pan, a mini loaf pan, a mini 1.5 cup food processor, 10 pounds of Pro-Max powder and 10 bottles of SF Torani syrup. That not including the food she has recommended. She got me to try Greek yogurt and taught me that cheese was just fine to eat while losing weight.

Serious Debate On Post-Op Dieting
Catracks replied to Cobrargc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a volume eater for sure. I think I was born with a huge stretchy stomach. As a 99 pound kid I was able to pack away massive amounts of food. As I got older and sedentary that totally backfired. With the sleeve I find that I can break off a 2 cm. square of chocolate and be totally satisfied with it. Before the whole bar would have been gone including anything else nearby. Now I get about 600-800 calories a day and as long as my Protein is above 70, my carbs are below 40-50 and my fat is below 30-40 I can eat a wide variety of foods. I avoid nutrient devoid foods, fast food and overly processed, packaged foods, white flour and high fructose corn syrup and refined sugar. Today my co-workers are going for dim sum and I know 1 oz of duck is 95 calories and very fatty and protein rich, 1/4 cup of Chinese broccoli has about 10 calories and 1.2 g of carbs. Juicy pork dumplings have 83 calories, 6 carbs and 3.5 grams of protein. My favorite egg tarts have 80 calories, 3 grams of fat, 13 grams of carbs and 3 grams of protein. The shrimp dumplings only have about 50 calories and almost no fat. Hey! I can do dim sum if I do it smart! So what is it that I can't have? -
Still Throwing Up :(

They use a bougie to stretch an esophageal stricture. Maybe it's something like that. I also read a study that surgeons should stay 5 cm. away from the pylorus when making the cut because getting too close causes nausea and vomiting in patients. I also found this: "The most important consideration in designing a tight sleeve is to ensure that there is no narrowing at the level of the incisura (the sag-point of the stomach where the organ turns horizontally towards the right of the patient). A narrowing will cause a leak at the GE junction or lead to persistent vomiting later, necessitating invasive treatment later. All in all, a highly regrettable outcome could ensue, so it is wise to leave a wider incisura than make it too tight." http://www.bmi-india.com/does-bougie-size-in-sleeve-gastrectomy-matter/ Ask the surgeon what he means. -
Do a search on the search bar and the recipe comes right up. I love her stuff. Made the microwave protein cake last week in lemon. YUM!

I eat about 1/4 cup of quinoa as a grain with fish or meat. I saute onions and peppers with it too. It is calorie dense, but I don't eat much of it. I'll NEVER give up my Peanut Butter either!

Serious Debate On Post-Op Dieting

I can eat just about anything. For me the weight gain was quantity, but I do eat healthier now too. I've cut out refined sugar for the most part, refined flour and overly processed foods. I eat small amounts of potatoes, whole wheat Pasta and quinoa for starches. I also eat a ton of lean meat, cheese dairy products, fish, nuts, fruit and vegetables in portions that thin people do. For Easter I had a float made from diet Orange Crush and skim vanilla ice cream. I also eat dark chocolate (a tiny piece every day). I'm with Cobragc. Eat smart, but live a little. The people who have been most successful a WLS seem to be those who can find ways to have a treat once in a while while not sabotaging their weight loss. -
I gurgle when I drink a lot of fluids or with certain foods. It's loud sometimes, but it doesn't bother me.

This also happens to me when I eat too much or eat too fast. In my case it has nothing to do with acid. Is this a stricture? -
Will I Ever Be Able To Eat Rice Or Pasta Again?
Catracks replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat rice and pasta 3 months out, but like PDXman, I avoid them because they are nutritionally void. I do eat quinoa and whole wheat pasta that have high protein stats. -
I'm in. I'm going to try for 20 pounds again. I almost made 20 on the Easter challenge so here goes!

Monday Funday Question Of The Day!
Catracks replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How fast I'd be going through clothes sizes I was VERY well informed. I was expecting a rough time, but this is EASY! Making my food for the day is fun and I can really get creative with it. -
I am two pounds over my goal, but I think I did pretty well. Bring on the memorial day challenge!

Don Get It Confused, Im A Drinker! Not An Alcoholic!
Catracks replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't judge because I'm a smoker. We did have a gastric bypass patient in my support group that lost all her weight and then gained it all back and more from drinking. OJ and cranberry juice are almost pure sugar and highly caloric and vodka had 85 calories per shot. I only have room for 700-800 calories per day and I have to get all my nutrient and 70 grams of Protein. After a couple drinks I would go way over what I should have for carbs and be missing my protein. As many have said, alcohol makes some throw caution to the wind and make bad food choices. Careful! -
Dang. haven't been losing for the last few days. Now I know. What a time for the TOM to show up! Grrrrrrrrrrr! The weight usually drops to normal non-water retention a day after. TMI huh?

Sleeve Capacity At Eight Weeks Seems More Than It Should Be
Catracks replied to Dooter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We can if we eat junk and slider foods. Drink milkshakes all day long and you will gain plenty. That's why dense, high quality lean Protein is the best for us. -
My nutritionist always told us to measure as in 1/4 = 2 oz. volume instead of 2 oz by weight in grams. That's what I've been doing. Then I find this article: Fluid or volume ounces or is it an ounce as it weight?

Calling All 3 Month-Ers! How Are Things Going?
Catracks replied to Kareforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just about 3 months. I can eat anything, but stick to Protein rich foods. Even my bread has 10 grams of protein per serving. I eat a lot of salmon, ahi, shrimp, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, quinoa, cheese, fruit, vegetable and nuts. I have dark chocolate 72 % almost every night. just a tiny square. They say is is antioxidant so I'm good with it. I drink a lot of crystal light and occasionally fruit juice with carbonated Water. I get around 700-800 calories a day. I try to keep the carbs below 40 grams and the fat below 35. I eat full fat cheese so sometimes it goes above that. I might hit my halfway mark by Easter. That would be 58 pounds in three months which isn't too shabby. I'm happy about it, especially since my surgeon said that all I should hope to lose was 50% of my excess weight. -
For plain yogurt to mix and dressing or dips I use Fage. For eating I use Chobani with the fruit in it. http://www.chobani.c...ducts/c/nonfat/ I get the nonfat and lowfat kind. The calorie difference is minimal.

Sleeve Capacity At Eight Weeks Seems More Than It Should Be
Catracks replied to Dooter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really cannot stretch the sleeve. The tissue on that part of the stomach is not stretchy. I can hold 6 oz of yogurt easily. I can do less than that with denser Protein (3 to 4 oz.) The mayo must have made it slide through easy. Try cutting it out and just eat the tuna and see what happens. It may be that you have a long thin sleeve. As long as you are losing and getting in the protein, it shouldn't matter. You seem to be losing just fine. 44 pounds at less than 2 months is GREAT! -

Can I Take A Lunesta If I Dissolve It-I'm Only 8 Days Post Op?

My acid inhibitor pills were normal capsule size and I took them right after surgery. Some pills are time release and shouldn't be crushed. -
How Did You Pop Your Cherry?
Catracks replied to ToyBoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was either cod and mashed potatoes refried beans with avocado or broccoli cheese soup. Heavenly! -
It's pretty easy to add calories and not add volume. Spread some peanut better on celery or make a Thai peanut sauce and dip meat into it. Use full fat cheese or milk. The Chobani Greek yogurt with frit in 160 calories for 6 ounces. a 1/4 cup of quinoa is 140. Add a little olive oil and stir fried onion and peppers into it and calorie count kicks up. Add a few almonds with your yogurt, fruit or cheese and that will kick it up some more without the volume. These are healthy things. I get in about 700-800 calories a day and I eat slowly over the course of the day. I don't really have set meal times and eat when hungry. It works for me. Eating too much, too fast will cause that puking and slime-ing.

Have some Peanut Butter toast (I found Protein bread!) or a strawberry with nutella for a treat. Don't bring the contraband into the house. Of course my kids never were really into candy. I hid hard boiled eggs and cash in hollow eggs. My daughter would rather shop than eat candy any day - even from an early age. If you need chocolate and can limit yourself to a tiny square a day, Trader Joes has 72% dark chocolate for about $2 for three bars. It's completely decadent with a bit of good coffee.
