When Did You Eat Salad?
Catracks replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I so agree on eating a really vitamin rich salad like you describe. They sell it boxed in my market under the title: Spring Mix. Most lettuce like iceberg is like eating fibrous Water. There's nothing in it and not worth the room it takes up. Broccoli, swiss chard, cauliflower, beets, sugar snap peas, and other vegetables do well in salads as well as meats, Beans and cheeses. Nuts too! Sometimes I serve my meats on a bed of greens when I don't make quinoa. -
Breastfeeding And The Sleeve
Catracks replied to Singlemama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't need the narcotics after surgery, I went straight to the non narcotic analgesics and only because they gave them to me. I wouldn't have bothered. My concern for you and baby was the extra amount of fluids beyond the 72 oz. you need to get in and the extra Protein beyond 70 grams. I barely managed, but of course you have someone else to think of :-) -

When Did You Eat Salad?
Catracks replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as they gave the go ahead for solid food at 7 weeks I started eating small salads. I had two weeks of clear, two weeks full and 2 weeks mushy. -
Breastfeeding And The Sleeve
Catracks replied to Singlemama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People with the sleeve struggle to stay hydrated as it is and the calorie deficit is significant. It will pull the nutrients right out of your body. Pump some milk and freeze it, get him used to a bottle (my daughter went from breast to cup and never had a bottle) and start weaning. Of course ask your doctor, but I believe he will echo what we've said. I wouldn't wait and see. My daughter pretty much weaned herself close to 2 years out as she started being more interested in solid food. 10 months is too soon to be shocked out of it. No kid should be. It should be done gradually over a month at least. It won't be easy on you either both physically and emotionally, especially if you just quit. Ouch! Let your milk supply naturally decrease as he gets more bottle feeds. -
Completely Terrified
Catracks replied to FattyBoombalatty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's pretty hard NOT to lose weight. I don't believe it's ever happened. You gain gain it back, but you would have to eat around the sleeve so to speak. I mean if you drank gravy and nacho cheese sauce? There are risks to any surgery, but they are VERY, EXTREMELY low with this one. I don't miss eating in volume. Now I just eat quality. I used to stuff anything into my mouth even if I didn't like it that much. If it was there ... I went to a buffet on Easter and had a dab of this and a dab of that. I got full and just wasn't interested in more food. I had lox and cream cheese on a rye cracker, a shrimp with cocktail sauce, pot roast, roasted pork loin, chicken breast in a horseradish sauce, a piece of muenster and swiss cheese and a little bit of orange tiramisu. Yeah, poor me. I probably overate a tiny bit, but all that was probably 6-8 ounces eaten over two hours. I think I had half an apple and 6 almonds that night and that was it. I felt like I had feasted. Some people miss it, but not me. I got a quick feeling of: "Damn, I wish I could eat more" and then remembering what overfull feels like to a sleever it was quickly forgotten and I just talked to my family and sipped tiny bits of champagne. Again, poor me. -
I Can't Do Th Is. I Still Want To Do The Hernia Repair Though.
Catracks replied to betterthanbefore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, don't do the surgery with so many doubts. I didn't have any and I think that played into my good attitude and success with it so far. Just for the record, I'm anything but malnourished. Eventually I will eat like a normal thing person. With me, I could lose some weight, but then I went back to the sheer volume of food me and the old stomach were used to and gained it all back plus some. Before surgery I was at my highest weight ever and going up daily. I couldn't sleep. My husband says I would gasp for air every two minutes. I had just become diabetic. I had fatty liver disease, high blood pressure and I was dying. Now the apnea is gone, the diabetes and fatty liver are gone and everything is at normal levels. For me I couldn't NOT have the surgery. You have to be sure. -
Hell YES! You feel better, sleep better, start to look better, are better.

Met Someone Who Gained Back Half Their Weight After Vsg
Catracks replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sleeve will expand to a point over the years, but not that much. I can see how one could eat around the sleeve by pushing high calorie sliders foods through. I'm trying to make good habits now. I think I have changed my way of eating, but the thought of gaining it all back is chilling! -
At 3 months I still get hiccups. It's one of my full signals. It might be from eating too fast. I tend to still do this.

Not Your Daughters Jeans For Sale
Catracks replied to SleeveDreamer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
and I b***h about paying $30 for Levis! I wear petites but I'm at a 12. It's hard to find petites or shorts. I'm usually walking on the hems. I'll bother with alterations once I settle on a pants size. The last time I walked into a Nordstom and took a look at the prices I couldn't stop laughing. Nice stuff though. -
Can also do this with ricotta.

Is This Normal? Gross - Warning..
Catracks replied to AngieG0410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will become less common I think. I'm 3 months out and get it when I eat dense Protein too fast or overfill my sleeve. I got it the first time I ate a thin pork chop. Early on, weird bits of nausea would just come up out of the blue: you know, salivating uncontrollably and then the nausea. It only happened a couple times, but it was weird. Everything gets easier as time goes on -- except for the weight loss after the first year (or so I am told). I plan to hit goal way before then .. she says hopefully. -
I'm a California native so I remember their original store in Pasadena when they used to sell nothing but liquor, snacks and batteries.

I Want Chinese Food!
Catracks replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, but watch the rest of their menu. I think I figured the only other thing edible thing for me on the menu was the salt and pepper prawns, but it's really high in sodium. When we were choosing a place to eat, I gave up on PF Changs and went elsewhere. I like Vietnamese garlic chili paste, soy sauce, sesame oil and some OJ too! -
Protein/fat/carbs Ratio
Catracks replied to isntsheclever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still around 800 calories. My percentages vary, but I try to stay under 70 grams of carbs and over 70 grams of protein. My fat is a little high I suppose. It's usually around 30 grams unless I eat a lot of cheese. -
I find that "bars" are mostly super high in carbs. I wouldn't think a bagel thin would hurt. I only eat Protein bread these days though (1 slice had 10 grams of protein). I don't have much room so I don't like to waste the space. Yeah, more protein (>70) and less carb. Also maybe substitute plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream. It boosts protein. Instead of ground beef and ham, perhaps some leaner less processed meat. That's just what I would do to tweak it. You are doing pretty darn well.

I read her blog from day one up to present. I'm doing the same with Waning Woman. The information I got was invaluable. I copied the recipes I liked to a word file as I went. Most things I can get MUCH cheaper at Trader Joe's. I do have to go to Whole Paycheck for my Protein bread though. I got an small ice cream maker for Christmas. I haven't tried it yet, but will now that the weather is getting better.

Can Massage Therapy Break Up Fat And Disperse.
Catracks replied to Ms skinniness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing other things to celebrate along the way, but this place is a resort spa and I'm not going until I feel comfortable in public in a bathing suit. It some motivation to get to goal or very close to it. -

When I get to goal, one of the presents to myself will be a spa day with massage, pedicure with foot massage, wrap and a mud bath. They will have to pour me out of there. -
I Want Chinese Food!
Catracks replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had dim sum yesterday as my co-workers were throwing a retirement party for a friend. I do not recommend it. I didn't eat a lot, but my stats were horrible, I only ate about 800 calories for the day, but my carb count was through the roof! My Protein was WAY too low. I've looked at restaurant Chinese dishes and most of the sauces they throw on make it difficult. Good authentic Chinese food is better than the fast food type crap they sling at Panda Express, but only just. Cook it at home and control the sugar and starches or get steamed veggies and lean meats or seafood without a lot of sauce if any. Omit the noodles and rice unless you can stand soy noodles -- which I cannot.
