  1. It was 4th ID (M) when I was there. It has always been a mobilization station, but it must be crazy crowded these days. They were just tearing down the last of the mule barns when I was there. Time marches on ...

    Pizza, Popcorn, Brownies

I found the quinoa pasta at Vons. Trader Joe's might carry it too. Why would you not be able to have Quinoa anymore? I eat it all the time. It's very high in Protein. I eat 1/4 cup with sauteed onions and peppers. Here is the product website: http://www.quinoa.net/145/index.html

    Memorial Day Challenge!

Stall broke! Not in time to make the memorial day goal, but I might get half way or more.

    Pizza, Popcorn, Brownies

I also scape the topping off pizza and eat a small bite or two of the crust. I also pop my own popcorn in a tiny amount of olive oil with a bit of garlic salt. Popcorn is the best whole grain Fiber and is a good low calorie snack if you don't eat the movie popcorn. Like I've said in other posts, I'm also a big fan of tiny amounts dark chocolate. I've also had little bits of ice cream in diet 7-up or orange as a float. Most of the time I eat like a health food nut, but this is my life now and I'm not going to withhold food that I really like from myself. I just eat less and eat smarter. I just discovered that I can have mac & cheese again. I found quinoa Pasta. I will bake some with ricotta maybe and some cheddar with a bit of nonfat milk. What I do not eat is over processed food and food with little nutritional value. Yes. the chocolate is anti-oxidant and has a good amount of Protein. I found better for me ice cream too. I have a rule: Do I love it? -- Eat in moderation. Am I ambivalent or ho-hum about a food? -- Stay away. Really. Do any of you remember eating food you weren't crazy about just because it was there?
  5. I started out at a 20 and now I am at a 16. It seems really slow. I've been at a size 16 for quite a while. Some 14s fit, but they are tight. Someone told me that the differences between sizes (especially in the single digits) are less as you work your way down. It must be true because at 130 I was a size 6 or 8/9. At 185 and a little over halfway to goal I am a 16 down from a 20.

    How Much Can You Eat?

Boy, you make me feel like a pig. I just ate 4 oz. of chicken with a few green Beans. I'm just a little over 3 months out.

When Did You Reintroduce Red Meat?

The day I went on solids. Only hamburger or tough chicken gives me trouble sometimes. I eat them anyway, but just remember to chew and to slightly under eat. Filet minon is very tender so should be fine. Just remember to chew thoroughly.

    Nsvvvvvvvvvvv!

I remember when I looked down to see about 4 inches between me and the steering wheel that was rubbing on my stomach. I also looked down and saw my fly (you know, the top of my pants). I think the biggest one was when I slid into a booth with room to spare. Booths used to scare me.

    Stalls Suck

You know what's funny? I think my surgeon put a curse on me. One of the last things he said at my 3 month checkup was: "Remember, you WILL stall." Then I stalled. @#%*&!!!!!!!

    Memorial Day Challenge!

I buy these, but anything dark chocolate 72% and above would be fine. http://www.traderjoes.com/fearless-flyer/article.asp?article_id=428

    How Much Can You Eat?

Yeah, watch out for Taco Bell. Just one of those little crunchy tacos are 180+ calories. They really suck too. I can eat 6 oz of yogurt at a time slowly, but only 3 oz of dense Protein. liquids? I am bottomless. I can see how one could drink themselves back to fat.
  12. 6 months for crackers? Oh heck. Just chew them well. I eat something called Sommersaults. They are whole grain with sunflower seeds. They are lower carb and high Protein. I don't eat any carb food unless the protein is very high or it is lower glycemic. These aren't flat dipping crackers, but they satisfy my want for crackers. http://www.amazon.com/Somersaults-Pacific-Crunchy-Nuggets-6-Ounce/dp/B002DW0QAC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335463517&sr=8-1
  13. I was stationed at Ft. Carson from 1983-1987. How is Ft. Cartoon these days? I used to live by Memorial Park and Prospect Lake. I miss Pike's Peak and Manitou Springs and Cripple Creek and Cheyenne Mountain and the Broadmore and Gold Camp Road to Cripple Creek ...

    New Clothes...later

I had to reply to this. There is no way I could wear my size 20s even with belts. I have some extra stomach skin and if I wear something that's just a little too big, it accentuates that pouch and looks just horrible. That's just me. You're mileage may vary

    New Clothes...later

I have a lot of pants from size 16 down to 10. I saved all my clothes when I was on my way up the sizes. They are things that never really go out of style because basically I never wear anything that is high style. I know I want to end up around a size 4 or 6 so I have been hitting the Goodwill and Ebay. It's funny: I have duplicate pairs of pants in a 16, 14, 12, 10, 8 and 6. I'm just getting into 14s now. It's not so bad when you can do it on the cheap. I don't mind used clothes as long as they are in good condition. I give away lots of nice clothing so I certainly shouldn't be weird about it.

    Stalls Suck

I think everyone does. I'm a little over 3 months and just coming out of a stall. They happen. Do a search on it. Your body is recalibrating and most times you are losing inches. It's weird how that works, but it does.

    Was This A Mistake?

I've never come across anyone who has regretted this in the long run. At 10 days you should maybe just be coming off Clear liquids and on to full liquids. If you vomit, you are either eating/drink too fast, too much or are eating/drink something your sleeve is not ready to handle yet. I cannot speak to the depression, but I know that with my health getting better, I have a MUCH better mood and outlook on life. Sometimes I literally feel like dancing. Take this time to pamper yourself. Go shopping, get a haircut, watch favorite movies, read great books. take long walks in pretty places. You are not a sorry, funky heap. You are a healing person getting ready to be healthier that ever before.

    Memorial Day Challenge!

I think my stall broke. I don't know if it was the higher Protein, more Water of the bit of dark chocolate I ate. Don't laugh. There are studies out there that show that it works. These 72% bars I get are are 50 grams, but look at the nutrition Calories 280 Fat 19g Carbs 24g Protein 4g I only eat 1/8 of the bar or less. It's plenty for a treat and apparently not too bad for you considering the protein and antioxidants. Those on 2,000+ diets can eat the whole bar probably. This is not an excuse to start downing the stuff by the handfuls, but a little goes a long way and it makes me happy. Sorry dark chocolate haters. Milk chocolate is still crappy for you and has little or none of the advantages of dark chocolate.

    Memorial Day Challenge!

I eat a lot of salmon, but since I have Omega 3s at home, I will take them. I've upped my Protein and will try to get more water in. Isn't it funny how the skinny out there tell you simplistically that if you expend more calories than you take in then you will lose weight. It's true, but only partially. There are so many other factors at work. Ounces are good. You'll get there as I will. I just want it to hurry up too much and it's counterproductive.

    Memorial Day Challenge!

I'm in a stall. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it won't last forever, but it is disheartening to the self-competitive.

    Waffles!

That would bother me, but for the nuts. I don't do rice at all. I eat quinoa in its place. The Pasta I eat is a mix of quinoa and corn. It's very high Protein. I never thought I'd get to eat mac & cheese again, but with that stuff I can. In its white flour form, those things for the exception of the nuts are BAD new for us in more ways than one. Some people cannot tolerate them, they can gum up the works and are pretty nutritionally devoid - especially white rice. I also use almond flour BTW.
  22. Fitting into smaller clothes is SO FUN! I like to see the scale go down too because I'm really competitive ... with myself. When I set out to do something I like to get it done in the shortest time possible. That's with everything and not just weight loss. Hell, I even got an accelerated college degree I do see your point, but I'm in a stall and it's pissing me off. I know it will break, but I'm still P.Oed.

    Waffles!

You can make them high Protein when you add whey isolate and things like ricotta to the batter - made with whole grain flour Five months is a little strict. I have been eating all foods since I went on solids in week 7. It all depends what you can tolerate and what your surgeon says.
  24. It's a Dutch cheese with dill. It also comes plain and with caraway. It's a semi-soft cheese, creamy, but more firm than brie. It's one of my favorites.
  25. I starting eating just about anything when I went on solid food starting at week 7. It's funny. I started thinking about chewing just now and realized that I really haven't been chewing things to death. It doesn't seem to bother me. I really LOVE almonds. If fact, I have both almonds and strawberries in my lunch today with some Havarti dill. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
