It depends what type of vegetarian you are. If dairy and eggs are okay then: Nonfat or lowfat Greek yogurt (best), eggs, skim, 1% or 2% milk, almond milk, cottage cheese (1% or 2%), cheese, nuts, seeds and legumes/beans. If you can eat fish and shell-fish then no problem. They are a great source of Protein. Ahi tuna (real stuff, not canned tuna) is best followed by salmon and then on down. Quinoa is the grain highest in protein, but carbs and calories are dense. I really wouldn't think vegan will do for us. There are vegan sleevers, but being vegetarian is hard enough to get the protein in without taking out all animal products. Make sure you use whey isolate Protein powder for your shakes. If you don't want it based on milk or eggs there are rice based ones available.

    HAIR LOSS!

Oh I know! Just wear it as another badge of honor. It's just part of the whole process.

    HAIR LOSS!

It certainly grows back. It happens to everyone and it is your body's response to healing after the surgery. Your body turns off all non essestioal systems to speed healing and unfortunately hair is not essential to our survival. Better than losing your nails huh? Just take care of yourself and get your Protein in. Take your Vitamins. It will start back in a couple months. I didn't really start loosing mine until 5 months. everyone is different. The reaction is delayed depending on when the hair is formed in the follicles.

Typical days food intake for vets?

I just figured I'd copy the My Fitness Pal data in here. I suppose almost 7 oz. of shrimp sounds like a lot, but I eat it over the space of two hours. I eat all my meals like this. It just works for me. This strategy would not work if I didn't plan, weigh and measure everything I eat though. I remarked on another thread that this seems to be a lot of food for 750 calories - especially when I compare my menu to others who are supplementing with Protein shakes. I hardly ever have one unless I feel like it. You menu seems great, but I would like to warn you against eating microwave popcorn. The oils they use have shown to be poisonous. It better for you and cheaper to pop it yourself over the stove in a little olive oil. Yes, the fillet in panko breading is not very smart, but they've been sitting in the freezer for too long. Besides, they fit in. I didn't go over on fats and carbs. I don't do bread often and if I do it's some whole grain nut stuff. I sauteed the shrimp in butter, garlic salt, cayenne, cinnamon and coriander.. Breakfast Chobani - Greek Yogurt Lemon 0%, 6 oz (170 g) Best Choice - Sliced Almonds Natural Sliced, 1 tablespoon lunch Trader Joe's - Argentinian Red Shrimp (Wild/Uncooked), 6.67 ounces Butter - Salted, 1 pat (1" sq, 1/3" high) Lettuce - Cos or romaine, raw, 1 cup shredded Kraft - Light - Parmesan Asiago Balsamic Vinaigrette Reduced Fat Dressing, 1 tbsp Bel Gioioso - Caesar Blend Asiago, Parmesan, and Romano cheese - Shaved, 1 tbsp. dinner Generic Restaurant - Panko Crusted Cod, 5 oz Broccoli Steamed - Broccoli, Steamed, Without Salt, 1/2 cup Snacks Stater Bros - Light String Cheese, 1 Piece Calories 750 Carbs 48 Fat 28 Protein 77 Fiber 5

    Iv Site

I had an IV infiltration. They wanted to start a new IV on me an hour before discharge. I wouldn't let them. I should have had them take it out, but I thought my choices were keep it in or have a new one started. I should have demanded it out. It was sore, bruised and hot to the touch for awhile. I could not tell if it was phlebitis or not. I really hate IVs. As someone else mentioned, it was more bothersome than the surgery for me. I never took pain meds after the first pain pump or morphine made me ill. Din't need it.

    Portion of food

I am a year out, but from very early on I could eat a 6 oz. yogurt, but only 2-3 oz of more dense Protein like meat. Everyone's volume or capacity is a little different. Just make sure you are getting 70-90 grams of protein and log everything you eat on My Fitness Pal or some other site. Eat protein first ALWAYS and stay away from sugars, white flours, white rice, etc. They are simple carbs that turn to sugar too easily and are not nutritious. Some are told not to count calories, but a couple months out I was getting 500-600 calories. From 5 months to now I have been getting 700-800 calories a day. I also eat under 30 grams of fat and less than 47 grams of carbohydrates. You're mileage will vary. I am female and 5'1".
  7. Mamma mia! How will I ever afford all that cereal?
  8. Okay, based on the link and measuring with ribbon my stats are: Body fat % = 26.77 (acceptable) BMI = 27.58 (overweight) Waist to hip ratio = .85 (moderate risk) BMR = 1355.9 (Boy, with that kind of calorie deficit you'd think I'd lose more. I only eat under 800 - other factors at play right?) I'm going to do this again tonight with a measuring tape in me birthday suit. I just couldn't wait.
  9. Iggy - it didn't bring up your personal stats. There are scales out there that do measure body fat. I've seen them before. I don't remember how they work. I think it sends a small electrical pulse and it measures resistance in the tissue. I don't know how accurate they are. I will use the link you gave me. I wish I had a measuring tape at work, but I will improvise. Paul!!! Everyone must be SO proud of you. I am and I don't even know you! Shar-Pei! LMAO!!! Paul, you look awesome in clothes and I bet you feel wonderful! I notice the skin most when I am swimming. Jumping up and down causes me to go one way and my skin to go the other. It's weird :-) You're right. I think I will base my weight less 5 pounds of extra skin to be conservative. The weight is still very slowly coming off. Every month it fluctuates up and down, but there is always a slight downward trend.
  10. I didn't get that link. I could look it up though. I fear that the waist to hip ratio will not give me the answer I want. I have no hips.
  11. I would have no trouble whatsoever maintaining where I am now. I have been for almost two months now. You know, I didn't think about my bones thickening somewhat do to weight bearing. I think I still have a small to medium frame though. I also now remember that I have no hips. My daughter on the other hand, has much more curvy hips. I figure my skin must weigh close to 10 pounds. I should heave my apron on the scale. Too gross!
  12. You didn't see the confirmed stories about people having the wrong leg amputated? Having the wrong ovary removed? The wrong kidney removed? Just Google it. It happens more than any hospital would want to admit. I confirmed with my surgeon before he put me out. I told him "sleeve." I trust him, but I still would have been HORRIBLY PISSED to get RNY instead. He does both. In all, it probably has more to do with calories consumed than the rare mistake. There was another poster who was getting in 3 or 4 protein shakes and eating too. My shakes are around 200 calories each and at - was it 7 weeks I was only getting in around 400-500 calories a day. Yeah, I suppose I was jumping to conclusions, but a sleeve doesn't fail to work if you use it right. That is my belief anyway. I suppose I am looking for possibilities. If the OP is eating right, she should explore every angle. Oh wait, you said intentionally botched. You were referring to another post. Oops. How would you do a sleeve and not remove the fundus/greater curvature? hmmmmm.
  13. I never had a leak test in Arcadia, CA. I was on clear liquids and the hospital followed the surgeons diet. I got water and crystal light or the equivalent. For two weeks after of was on clear. It was a struggle to get all the clear liquid in and it took me all day and half the night continuously sipping. I do know that many people are given the green light on puree right away, but I couldn't have handled it. That said, maybe this is a sleeve plication gone wrong or they performed gastric bypass. My surgeon does both and it's not out of the realm of possibility that a mistake has been made. I've never heard of the sleeve referred to as a pouch and I've never heard a surgeon or any reliable study that says that it stretches beyond the minimal stretching that occurs after a year or two. Two year studies show that they didn't get much bigger than 8 oz. depending on the length. Length of course varies from person to person. The bougie size differences are minimal and it also depends how close to the bougie the cut was made, but from reading and the surgeries I've seen on video, they cut/staple up close. I am interested as to what is going on and wish the best for the OP. This is a weird mystery, Please keep us posted.
  14. They cut and staple around a bougie - a tube that is inserted into the stomach. They are pretty standard, but even the difference between the sizes is minimal - we're talking millimeters.here. Somebody is feeding you B.S.
  15. Sleevers don't have pouches, The swelling goes down after you heal and the volume you can eat slightly increases. Studies show that depending on the length of your sleeve, volume increases from 2 oz. to about 8oz. The real stretchy part was removed.during the surgery. I have never heard of this. Is this what your surgeon said?
  16. Thanks Cheri!! I have an appointment with my PCP and I will get a referral to see if I can get the panni covered. I do know that things tone up some, but I don't think that's going anywhere.
  17. It doesn't seem like you are too off track weight wise. A lot of people are for moderation on the bad stuff, but there are some of us who have trigger foods - especially carbs make our bodies crave even more and more of them until we feel out of control. Eat well, but eat smart.
  18. Go back to the basics and make sure you are getting between 70-90 grams of Protein a day. Cut out the refined sugar, white flour, rice and potatoes. Protein first will forever be the key for us.
  19. That sounds SO FUN!!! I tell you, I was just totally jazzed that I could mount a good sized horse (about 16 hands) from the ground. Just swung on up. No need for someone to hold the saddle on the other side. No need for a mounting block. I'm 5'!" so it takes some doing, but I can do it!! I admire your upper body strength. that's something I'm working on.

    Welcome

Yes, and watch out for the back-blast.
  21. There is really no excuse for this. I got lazy, pure and simple. I have been hit and miss about taking my Vitamins and Calcium. I am regular with the B-12, but let the others go. I didn't think it would make such an impact, but it did. My labs came back and the surgeon sicced the nutritionist on me. I didn't talk to her yet, but I know what she is going to say. I'm back on a strict Vitamin regime today. I won't let this happen again. I don't suppose there is a question here other than wondering if any of you are sloughing off or had before. I just wanted to warn you that's its not okay. You can do real damage. Not only that ... I just connected the dots. I've been stall for just about as long as I've been bad about the vitamins. I just went searching. Sure enough, Vitamin D deficiency call stall weight loss and contribute to obesity. Same with calcium. At least I think I have an answer now.

Vitamins and labs - Boy did I blow it!

I believe you are only required to have 1500 mcg per week. It's water soluble so excess is secreted so it's not stored and there is no known toxicity because of that.

Vitamins and labs - Boy did I blow it!

My diet is not very balanced. I don't get near enough fruits and veggies. I'm going to work on it. In the meantime it's back on the vitamin regimen.
