My Boyfriend Left Me
Catracks replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. I know I did irreparable damage to my daughter through poor decision making. She's seems okay, but I don't know if she will not trust men or be needy or what. She has good role models (my husband and her grandfather) and has good common sense, but who knows? There was a lot of hurt. -
Seafood Restaurant Test
Catracks replied to N-Linda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat seafood all the time. It's really good for you. Like most, I tolerate it well. I have a pork chop sitting in my stomach that feels like a rock though. -
My Boyfriend Left Me
Catracks replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just my experience: I had my daughter with a man who feels little more responsibility for his children than a dog does. He left us physically when my daughter was almost 4. He had left us mentally long before that. He left us with a rent we could not afford, unpaid bills and also raided his own daughter's savings account so he could go to Vegas with his new sucker, I mean GF. He his from the child support people, but I finally tracked him down and took him to court. This was 14 years ago. When you have children and are a single parent, I believe you owe it to your kid not to shack up/move in/co-habitate with any man that has not said "I do" to you and vice versa. This isn't about religion or stodgy, old fashioned moral values. It's about common sense. What is this guy really to her or her kid? Not much apparently if he can just up and walk out. Remember the old tacky saying? Why buy the cow if ..." Hate to be blunt, but the guy had it made until it just got to be too much of a bummer and he just walked away because, well, it was nice and all, but you are just a woman he lived with. I know you can't tell people this. You also cannot tell them to stop Facebooking, calling and texting a man thinking that it will do any good. Actually it does harm. I wouldn't live together with a man unless I was okay with the friends with benefits scenario and I didn't mind confusing the hell out of my kids and teaching them that this is normal. To the original poster: Please don't get angry at me. Get angry at the guy who left and don't call him. It's beneath your dignity. Get a cheaper place or share the apartment with A FEMALE friend or a family member, cut cable and any other useless bills and move on. Let him come back to you if he wants to apologize and do it right this time. Just my opinion, but it's been well researched P.S. I know you feel like crap now, but it's going to get better. -
Any Advice As To How To Keep Your Hair From Falling Out?
Catracks replied to KittyFromBC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein is and was coming out of my ears. It will just happen pretty much no matter what you do at around 4-5 months and then grow right back again. It's not bad. From what I understand, the loss is from when your hair follicles were supposed to be producing hair back when you had the surgery and those few weeks of healing. Hair is ancillary to what you really need your body to do. Meaning: it was expendable, but things like making new blood cells are not. -
My A1C and glucose are normal, but my cholesterol still came back very high. It's frustrating when I'm trying to eat mainly Protein and it causes the cholesterol to shoot up. I know I should nix the cheese, but it makes me happy and makes it easier to stay away from all the Pasta, bread and potatoes. Should I be a thin person with bad cholesterol or a fat person with good cholesterol? Are those my choices? It runs in my family. We don't get cancer. We have strokes in our 80s.

I never though of that. To tell you the truth, I really don't know WHAT happens when fat is burned.
-
b.b.b.b.but I FEEL perfectly sane! I'm SOOOOOOOO CONFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSED!!!!!
-
Oh dear! I thought i was the only one who ate popcorn for dinner. If I get my Protein in, I've been know to do that. I always take a bag hiking and on road trips. Love the stuff. I put a bit of Lawry's garlic salt on it, but one thing since being sleeved: I do not add salt to food. Maybe a bit cooking, but I used to salt everything. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I got a White Castle once. Bleech! Come to the west and get In n' Out. They make a good protein burger.

* Doink! You know, now that you mention it ..... I only know that I haven't felt this great in YEARS. I know they talk about it like it's an asymptomatic killer, but don't truly sick people feel pretty lousy?

Ugh Really World? Now Is Not The Time!
Catracks replied to Stelina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One of the best updates ever! Glad to hear it! It will be great to tackle the actual problem instead of sticking a bandaid over it and hoping you'll go away. Palliative care is for the almost dead, not for young otherwise healthy people. -
Holy Freaking MOLE!!! See what I mean about medications???!! I read somewhere that when a patient stops the PPIs, the stomach produces even more acid, but I forgot why. That's why people have trouble getting off them. Acid also has to be present to break down Vitamin pills and Proteins. I was listening to one show where this doctor was taking about vitamin pills passing right through the GI tract undissolved and people being deficient in Protein and Vitamins because they simply were not getting broken down because of deficient stomach acid. I do get an acid stomach sometimes, but only once did I reach for the Gas-x. Most of the time I just guzzle Water. I may be just lucky in that regard.

Will I Ever Enjoy Eating Again?
Catracks replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perfectly put. There should be no anxiety about it. Relax. Enjoy! Just eat slowly and learn your full signs. Mine is a sigh and slowing down even more and picking. If I eat slightly too much or too fast then hiccups. Just stop before you get that "I need to barf" feeling. Sorry. It's just a fact of life now. We'll all learn. -
I would think popcorn moderately good Fiber would do your intestinal tract more good than harm, but I haven't researched it. I would think a bit is okay for an occasional snack if you can control it. Just stay away from microwave popcorn and the movie theater variety. Buy a huge bag for $2 and have enough for months and months. You can either air pop it or do what I do and pop it on the stove in a tiny amount of your favorite oil. It only takes a dab. Here I am extolling the virtues of popcorn on a sliders=bad thread. Sorry folks.

Will I Ever Enjoy Eating Again?
Catracks replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think because of the topic of this thread that it is bringing a lot of people who are having troubles. I suspect that like with complications (leaks, strictures, etc.), it is less common in the general population. Don't let it scare you. Sometimes it is frustrating when I'm eating something really good and I have to stop, but the feeling doesn't consume me like food in quantity is a lost friend. I will always be a foodie. I love to cook and still love to eat. I just eat like a healthy person should now. I don't really wish to go to the other extreme where I don't really care to eat and it's just simply fuel. -
Yes, thank you all. Very informative posts. I suspect a lot a sleevers are dealing with this. I also posted a thread about PPIs awhile back. Maybe it's just a neurosis with me, but I do not like the idea of medication at all to block things that are natural. It usually end up messing up your body's equilibrium. The medical community simply does not know what secondary and tertiary things a medication could be affecting. If it's not something like "I need this insulin or I will go into a coma/shock (I forget which)," then I would consider very carefully what's being prescribed.

I won't stay away for the shellfish or the cheese or the animal Proteins. WTH would I eat then? I suspect this is largely genetic as my mom and brother are on statins and cannot get their numbers down. I'd have to check My Fitness Pal, but I have it set at 750 calories and 21 grams of fat a day, 94 grams of Protein and 47 grams of carbs. I'm usually under on everything, but close. I don't know how I could be any healthier right now. I believe Benjammin. I think we've been fed a load of crap.

I walk about 5 miles a day, do crunches, and lift. On the weekends I hike around 10 miles up mountains. Moving enough?
-
I agree about the cholesterol lowering medications, especially statins. The side effects are truly horrible and they are not shown to reduce the risk of heart attack unless you have active heart disease. Even then ... I told my PCP point blank that I'm not going on the drugs. Twice my A1C came back normal and I asked for him to drop the diagnosis of diabetes. He said that I still had it (even though it was always borderline), but it was controlled and that I should still consider taking the Metformin. What is with these people???!!! Thanks for the links. I'll look at them at home. Thank you both. Anyone else fighting with the cholesterol thing? Fighting their PCP over diagnoses?

Will I Ever Enjoy Eating Again?
Catracks replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still enjoy eating very much. At almost 6 months out, there is nothing I know of that I cannot tolerate. I remember the first time I got to eat something semi-solid. Those Beans were so good. I actually taste my food now and haven't picked up a salt shaker in 6 months. I don't stuff food that I really don't care for into my face just because it's there. I plan my meals and I think they're pretty healthy and for once I can portion control. Today is: Shrimp with avocado in a homemade cocktail sauce made with ketchup, horseradish and Greek yogurt Cottage cheese with some of the taco filling left over from last night and 9 Trader Joe's lowfat blue corn chips Strawberries Roasted pork loin and broccoli for dinner. -
I wasn't happy at all with the shirataki tofu noodles. I don't like the texture of the quinoa noodles. The best so far has been whole wheat pasta if I really must have pasta.

What Kind Of Calcium/vitamins Do You Take?
Catracks replied to mandamomma2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take the Bariatic Advantage calcium chews in lemon and raspberry. The also have D in them. They are my daily candy. I also take 1500 mcg of B-12 and a multi with Iron. It's called One Source Active Kids or something like it. I just got my blood work done. We;ll see how it's working. -
I have been in the wrong threads apparently. Hmmmm, this here is interesting. and no, men do not get smaller from what I've read. They appear to get bigger, probably as there is no gut to hide it all. I image more blood is freed up to do what's important. Apparently I don't mean thinking. Women's sex drives seem to skyrocket after surgery for a number of reasons both physical and psychological. I imagine it's the same with you all. We must get a boost of testosterone too.

Nightline "weigh Less Drink More"
Catracks replied to KristieAtkinson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hardly drink at all. Monday while on Catalina I got a strongly mixed sea breeze (vodka, cranberry and grapefruit). I was buzzed for about 1/2 an hour. Took a walk and the effect was gone. -
Popcorn. I can eat a ton of it.
-
I am 40% Protein, 30% carbs and 30% fats. I eat a lot of cheese. I want between 60-90 grams of protein. I try not to go over 47 grams of carbs and 25 grams of fat. It seems to work. When I hike, I up the carbs a little.
