Cheap hot dogs are most lip, glands and ... I won't go there. I eat the Hebrew National fat free kind. I like them. If I go in for full fat I will eat a Nathans snap dog (with the casing). I am a fan of Italian sausage. It's not very lean, but since our neighborhood Italian market grinds their own, i know what's in it. I like the hot kind. For the bun I will slice one half of one longways and eat it open face with a tiny bit of chili, onions and or mustard. Mmmmmm, spicy mustard. I try to get healthier buns or bread for them.

Whatever helps, but keep in mind that a sleever needs 70-90 grams of Protein and Weight Watchers may not conform to that. A lot of us watch our carbs closely too and vary the amount based on strenuous exercise. I have been doing very well with the protein first and then a little healthy carbs on the side (whole grains, vegetables, fruit in moderation).

The shakes will go right through you pretty fast. The denser Proteins will sit in your stomach much longer. My surgeon wants us off the shakes and getting protein from foods as soon as possible. When I mentioned that I occasionally still have a protein shake for Breakfast at almost six months, she was a little annoyed. I still do it anyway because I can make really tasty ones. I don't sip on them throughout the day because I like them fresh out of the blender and cold. The reason for getting on regular foods is that the protein shakes really do not give you everything you need nutritionally (certain amino acids, Vitamins, minerals and fiber) and for the fact that we basically should be not on a liquid diet for long. I eat tri tip, ribeye, sirloin, fillet mignon, turkey, chicken, ahi tuna, white fish, shellfish, pork, cheese, Greek yogurt, beans and nuts for protein. I don't like lamb or organ meats. Quinoa is a high protein grain I eat. Lots of calories and carbs, so a 1/4 cup serving usually does it. Treat it like couscous and add feta and cranberries or whatever.

At the clear liquid phase and full liquid phase you are right, but I do believe it was broccoli that saved me from all the constipation issues that seem to come up. I just pureed my soups very well. The broccoli was in there, but not in chunks. It just depends on what a person can tolerate. At 9 days the broth is the best, but you are on the verge of going to full liquids, no?

Okay so you have 3 months until your surgery. Glad to have you here. I waited a few months before in introduced those things. Your surgeon should have a nutritional guide for you. Some surgeons do not want there patients eating nuts or popcorn until at least 6 months out. I ate nuts at 3 months. My post op went: 2 weeks of Clear liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, 2 weeks of pureed food and finally you get to introduce solids as tolerated. As was said, corn is not a good choice, but a little bit of otherwise healthy foods are fine later way down the line. Beans are great sources of Protein. Beans are my friend and I ate a fair amount of refried beans during the puree stage. Now any bean and legumes are on the menu -- except for lima beans. I hates them! The rule for weight loss and for sleevers is protein first, then maybe a little bit of vegetables and an even a tinier amount of good carbs like quinoa or 1/4 to 1/2 slice of toasted whole wheat. For a long time, you will not have much room at all. Most people and only eat a couple ounces at first and then a six month they are able to eat maybe 4 fl. oz. or 1/2 cup at a time. That's not much room and we need 70-90 grams of protein a day so there is no room to waste on starchy filler.

Nine days out I was still on Clear liquids so when I went out I got vegetable beef soup and just asked for the broth. Some people are on full liquids so any cream soup or pureed soup would be fine like potato leak or broccoli cheese. Tomato bisque or lobster bisque is super good too. Egg drop is wonderful. You can make egg drop from any broth. Just heat it to a rolling boil and slowly stir the raw scrambled egg in. I made a lot of soup and even brought restaurant soup home for later. I made so much that I still have some in the freezer from six months ago. I still pull some out on occasion. They were made specifically to be high in Protein.

Question Everyone?
Catracks replied to DIRTYMESKIN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is not anything I miss. I used to eat a lot of fast food. I don't miss it AT ALL. Vegetables and greens are great! My sleeve tolerates anything and I still love food. Once in a while on special occasions I will have a few bites of cake, ice cream or pie. I have little bits of this and that so I really don't miss anything ... except: Homemade macaroni and cheese - not the stuff made with the roux, but just layered macaroni with a mix of sharp cheddar and longhorn. Then pour in a little milk and bake until the top is browned and bubbly. Simple old farm food. I used to eat this until I got sick and I think I would do the same now so I haven't made it. I have control over everything but this. -

Lose A Shoe Size?
Catracks replied to funkeechiggen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My feet were never really fat and I have wide feet naturally. I did lose a whole size though and my husband said: Feet don't shrink. Well they obviously do. My situation might even be from a combination of fat loss and not having the ligaments stretching due to the extra weight. BTW, my toe ring is lose and the rings on my fingers are sliding all over the place. -

I said ESPECIALLY northern Italians. I love that old "ASS/U/ME" thing. I first learned that old adage form "The Bad News Bears." It wasn't clever then either. Okay, I'm done too. It was fun though. -
I think you are right. It does go to show that having things doesn't necessarily make a person appreciate them or the person that breaks their back to get it for them. First thing you do is go out shopping and buy yourself some pretty underwear. I have the tendency to want to wait because I think it's a waste of money, but seriously. I went to Victoria Secret and got those colorful, every day panties for a reasonable price. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel. Then do some more shopping. Then make them get jobs :-) LOL

Freinds...how Many Of Us Have Them?
Catracks replied to Jolie_KeMi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep waiting for something like this to happen, but I only have 2 close female friends. I got in touch with one of them after a 7 year hiatus. We just drifted apart and one day I just up and called her. Well she is just the skinniest thing. She was skinny to start with and after the birth of her second child she just starting losing so much weight that she got scared and went to the doctor about it. Anyway, she told me that the some of the mothers in her Mommy and Me class, some that she had known for years since the birth of her first child, just began to HATE her. She didn't call attention to her weight loss either. They just started making smarmy comments about her weight and that she thought she was "All that." This woman is one of the kindest people I know and she was just hurt and dumbfounded. I think if it can't be mended without resentment and they cannot deal with their issues, then maybe the friendship wasn't what you thought. It's really a shame. -
When I have done that, I don't need to make myself throw up. It just happens and it's miserable. I eat very, very slowly. Try using chopsticks (only if you are not that good at it. Sadly, I am) or better yet, a baby fork or seafood/cocktail fork.

The Sicilian thing was a dig because I love the over the top reaction I get, especially from northern Italians on the subject. They don't like Sicilians. We on the other hand don't care. See the previous comment on judging. Now it's nagging and being pushed over the edge? Seriously? :-D Signed: I.M. Ignorant, II. -

Sorry about the psychologist crack. That was uncalled for. I had some dealings with a few psychologists and psychiatrists back in the 80s when they couldn't seem to correctly diagnose Borderline and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder in my mother. It gave me a bad taste of the profession. I think they finally figured it out in the late 90s. I was dreading my psych evaluation, but it went off smoothly. I never mentioned my mother. She never asked. :-P LOL! -

Just to be clear: Judging the OP would look like this: You are a weak person because you ate Cheetos. Who said that? When one misuses words or concepts, it cheapens them. That's why when someone dares to hand down a piece of advice someone does not want to hear, the immediate reaction is: "You judge people. You can't judge people. Stop judging people." God gave us science. This is God's universe and science is an integral part of it. -

Not eating Cheetos is perfection? My favorite weight loss blogger suggests that former carb junkies don't even eat crackers or Pasta. She uses cucumbers and shredded zucchini respectively. I don't go that far, but I don't get all offended when she says that it probably better to stay away from refined flour let alone junk food. There is something to be said of discipline and I sure was lacking in it. Psychologists crack me up. It's better to encourage people with positivity? Okay. I'm positive that Hot Cheetos are crap. Eat it or don't. Maybe Bobby should have learned his lesson from the first time he touched the stove. Reading the World according to Italianlady was enlightening too. I'm Sicilian BTW. LOL! -

I'm just giving my opinion and it's pretty much backed up by science. That crud is horrible for you. Did you even read the post or did you skip over the fact that it was worded as opinion? Did I ever tell her no? I said that I would not. I'll stand by the fact that we as obese and formerly obese SHOULD probably not get back into the junk food habit especially in the weight loss stage. We're all adults here. Do what you want. Have at the Cheetos. What I wanted was to offer an opinion. I just re-read my post and I don't know what you saw as judging and beating up unless examples of what I do and do not do are simply horrifying. To me, empty encouragement without substance or guidance is useless. IN MY OPINION, it's would be irresponsible of me to tell a new WLS patient that Hot Cheetos and Doritos are okay. In maintenance maybe you could safely toss back a few, but even at this stage the thought of that makes me slightly ill. My tastes have changed and that is what this time is for. We are training ourselves on how to eat properly. -
My Boyfriend Left Me
Catracks replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too. I still say get your own place and continue to date until you do get married. It's just easy to fall back into old habits. The fact that other people break up really has no bearing on you. Make your marriage more than a civil contract. Now I know you are not Christian. You may be some kind of spiritual. Make your union spiritually deep and just make a rule that it will be forever. The romantic love waxes and wanes throughout the years, but it can develop into something deeper that will make it last through unbelievable hardship. Bickering and unpleasantness is not hardship. Loosing your child is hardship. Having a kid with a disease is hardship. Your partner having cancer is hardship. Losing your house in a fire is hardship. I'm done with the soapbox. -

I personally will never have those things again. The closest I have come is a few Trader's Joe's unsalted baked blue corn chips, but mostly I will dip meat into homemade guacamole or spread it on deli turkey and roll it up. Cheetos and Doritos are nutritional zeros and are full of fat and salt and weird chemicals. When I splurge I do things like have whole wheat Pasta or a small slice of homemade bread (my friend makes the best whole wheat bread and adds oats sometimes of flax seeds). Splurge means a SF Fudgsicle. When solids are okay have some carne asada with avocado, Beans, lettuce, salsa and cheese. shake on more Tapitio. Skip the tortillas. Try scrambled eggs, hot sauce and beans. Just skip the masa, tortillas, bread and rice. Cheetos and Doritos are gross anyway. If you start eating good, fresh food, you won't even like that crud anymore. It's not unrealistic to never have a fake nacho cheese incrusted Dorito again in your life. I haven't had fast food in 7 months. I don't miss it either. -
Yes, water retention probably. Don't weigh yourself again until after it's over. Go from there.

It's what's for dinner. Just watch the oil. I am going to use a teeny bit of that coconut oil everyone is talking about. Smells heavenly. It's supposed to be stable at high heat.
