My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!
Catracks replied to kelliecalgary's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The words I would use are: "He eats crap that I wouldn't want to eat." I don't think the issue is being possessive. I think it's the fact that we so carefully plan our menus and when the food is not there (because somebody else ate it), we cannot eat the way we are supposed to. Either the whole household goes over to better eating with maybe a few special treats that the sleever shouldn't eat for the rest of the family OR The rest of the family keeps their hands off the healthy food or refrains from eating every last bit of something and replace the food they ate in a timely manner. Simple consideration. -
It definitely smells like coconut. If you hate coconut, you'll hate this. You can also use it in place of crisco for pie crust - not that I've had pie lately. Use it anywhere you would use butter or oil. Makes good frosting too I'm told. Some people spread it right on toast. I use it for sauteing and for popping corn.

I know it's tough on the go, but some Greek yogurt with fruit like Chobani should be easy and fast. I think that I'm doing so much better after swearing off processed foods. These thing are more food science than food. Usually there is a huge ingredients list. Wow, listen to me. I've gone all health food nutty. I always carry some nuts with me and have some in my desk. I also pack my lunch with everything weighed and measured. I have one of those bento boxes with a place for an ice pack. It works for me. Your mileage will vary

Post-Op Food Question?
Catracks replied to Mzluvee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just for info sake, the fruit juices are loaded with sugar, especially orange juice. Apple juice calmed my stomach on Clear liquids, but I was instructed to dilute it by half. It still tasted wonderful. I'm 6 months out and still dilute fruit juices, but I don't drink them often because my sleeve is small and I need to give the calories to good Proteins. -
Post-Op Food Question?
Catracks replied to Mzluvee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cucumbers bothered me at first, but not pickles. Once you are on solids (for me it was 6 weeks of liquids) try a bit of one out. Just don't eat the sweet ones. Cold kosher dill! YUMMMM!!!! -
"all Things In Moderation"?
Catracks replied to JenniJune's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think we are beginning to find out that it's: Whatever works best for you. I packed some hummus in my lunch today. My daughter left a whole slice of pita for me - some nice white enriched flour chewy pita. I considered taking half of it, looked up the carbs and calories and said NAHHHHHHHHHHHH and got some carrots and a baby bell light instead. I'm continuing to experiment with sugar free, low carb Desserts. Did I mention that i made some Protein pistachio ice cream that was super killer? I want to try and make mini blackberry pies using coconut oil and oat crust, fresh berries and almond or vanilla SF Torani syrup. I see where the everything in moderation folks are coming from, but I don't have the discipline. If I got my hands on some say, McDonald's fries or cheese puffs, I'm not sure I could stop myself. pathetic huh? -

Some people can get their point across and write well. Cheri, you are one of them. -
I think you need to eat extra slowly and chew well. I know I do. When I get home sometimes I am ravenous. I have an hour commute home. I tend to want to bolt my food and even a small bit eaten too fast will feel horrible. Dies every type of food feel this way? I should take a snack for the drive home right? Glad you're through this mess.

My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!
Catracks replied to kelliecalgary's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
'couse it's a problem, but with an easy solution. Most of our food is communal, but not one person in this house will eat the last bit of something without asking. It's understood that there are some things that are for me only like certain Soups, high Protein crackers, my Protein powder and some other things. I will offer them some of my protein ice cream or things I make, but they wouldn't just go eat it. My husband and daughter know that I measure and weigh my food. Leftover meat usually goes into my lunch the next day so they make sure I have enough. They also know that they can eat anything in the house and I cannot. It's just common courtesy. I don't think he's eating your stuff because he sees that it healthy. He's eating it because it's convenient. He also may in a small way want to be a part of this. You can buy him the same stuff, but make a shelf and a drawer in the frig and a shelf in the pantry for YOU ONLY. Make it clear. If he gets hurt feelings, just explain it to him. -
How Do You Deal With.....
Catracks replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tell everybody who asks about the sleeve. I also caution against RNY and the band just from the people I have met and the things I have read. I can understand the people who go off because they had a difficult time. I think I can also guess what's going on in the successful sleever's head. It may be the shame and stigma that still surrounds WLS - like they didn't have enough willpower and character to do it the natural way and took the easy way out. Load of crap. I think she may want people to believe or let them believe she didn't have the help. She may also be jealous that you are doing "Her thing" and might be just as successful or better at it. Either way, it's a bit selfish. I've heard of these reactions. It's just weird. -
So If You Know, Why Don't You....

So If You Know, Why Don't You....
Catracks replied to UTGal99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's Exactly what my mother said. Enjoyment of life does not equal eating. I'll tell you what enjoyment is: Being able to slide into a booth with ease Being able to ride any amusement park ride Being able to wear a swimsuit Being able to go on Water slides Being able to ride a horse Being able to hike up a mountain Being able to ride my bike Being able to wear cute clothes ,,,, and the list goes on. BTW, I still really enjoy food to. Why didn't I eat 1/2 the hamburger and call it good? Why didn't I just eat less? Because maybe I could do it for a month or two, then I would finally break and just binge. Now I have no desire to. -
Did I Get Super Big Sleeve? How Many Calories
Catracks replied to windycitymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perfect advice! I eat 750-800 calories a day at 6 months and exercise every day. I'm a slow loser now and wondering if I should bump up the calories. I will always be weighting and measuring my food I think. It keeps me in line. Portion control was my downfall. -
Learn To Take A Compliment Already!
Catracks replied to mommymar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't mind people commenting on the weight loss at all. I'd rather have a bunch of those than people who don't comment at all because either they are afraid they will offend or just don't care. I did lose weight and it's not like they are insulting me. It's a compliment. Now the "You have quite a tan" is confusing to me. Do I say "Thank you?" I didn't do anything. It's just what my skin does in the sun. -
My surgeon was Dr. Troy Lamar (sounds like a 1940s movie star name huh?) All the rest is on my ticker below.

Z "Tunnel of carnage?" I thought you meant cartilage, but now after reading this thread, I'm not so sure. -
Oranges are super high in sugar so I only eat them once in a great while. I had 1/3 cup of pineapple and 5 larger Rainer cherries today for a total of 11 grams of carbs from fruit. Not so bad eh? Totally doable.
-
I eat Chobani exclusively. I knew immediately that the fake stuff would be Yoplait. I cannot stand Yoplait anyway. Chobani yogurt with the fruit is a little high in carbs, but I don't care. Fage is what I use for unflavored for use in dips and dressings.

My Body Is A Jello Jiggler

Too funny! I was going to mention the pool. I go one way and my skin goes another. I jumped up and down in the water for 20 minutes in horrified fascination. -

Now I'm bewildered. I just agreed with you. -
I had severe sleep apnea. Even though the woman giving the test was kid and patient, it was also one of the worst nights ever. I panicked with the full mask and only slightly panicked with the tubes in my nose. I didn't get the machine prior to the surgery. I got it delivered a couple weeks post-op and by then I didn't need it. I don't believe it matters on the table. I think you are getting pressured forced air under general anyway, but I'm not sure. In the recovery room the dang nurse kept waking me up threatening to put me on the make because my oxygen saturation went below normal. That's one reason I never took another shot of morphine. As I had no pain (only discomfort), it was better that way anyway. They put the dang machine in my room, but I told them I would only use the plain oxygen. I'm stubborn. I know. They didn't force the issue.

Yeah. You're right. It's a trigger thing with me when someone says something and the inevitable "Stop Judging" response comes. People have different ways of supporting people. I think it's up to the person who asks the question, which one they should take to heart and act on. Opinion only: People should not bother getting hurt over what veritable strangers post on a forum. If you don't like the tone of the advice or the advice, then don't take it. As for myself, I need to "get over myself" and stop replying ad nauseam about whether "tough love" or "kid gloves" is the best way to support a person. I do think my daughter and her ticket was a good analogy though Okay, from here on out -- I'll see how I do. Call me on it if you care to :-) -
Red Meat, Caffeine, Nuts, Corn And Popcorn
Catracks replied to I_did_it!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do have the butcher grind my beef. I've always liked it better that way. Pink slime is not anything I could have imagined. I pop my own corn. Nobody had to tell me microwave popcorn was bad news. It tastes like chemicals. I just do it on the stove with coconut or olive oil. Yeah, I know that you're really not supposed to heat extra virgin, first cold press, but I love the taste. I have been trying to eat natural and eat as many non-processed and minimally processed foods as possible. Unfortunately it's a trade off because these Protein powders are totally food science. The SF Jello pudding and Gelatin and the SF Torani syrups keep me from the sugar. I love to make protein packed Desserts. One thread goes into philosophy about eating everything you used to in moderation or deny yourself some foods. I'm of the latter philosophy, but have found things to replace the foods that are not good for me with better ones that taste just as good. Sorry to hear about popcorn and the GI tract. I would have thought all that Fiber would be a good thing. It could also be what's stalling my weight loss even though I don't eat more than a cup or so and my carbs are under 45 grams. So much for my low calorie snack I absolutely will continue with minimally processed things. I don't want to go totally Paleo. I'm going to try mixing the cuts Wheetsin.
