Foods That Cause Dumping.
Catracks replied to RissyRoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think she just had an upset stomach and lower GI tract like anyone would have after that load of crappy food. Bagels are chewy good, but if you have to have bread, maybe a whole grain, rustic bread that has a good amount of Protein. Trader Joe's carries one whole wheat rustic pane that is killer. I can only eat 1/2 a slice and usually don't at all unless I'm hiking that day. I have a 1/2 slice with Peanut Butter. YUMMMMM. It's easier on our sleeves toasted BTW. -
For The Poeple Who Get In 80-100Gm Protein A Day
Catracks replied to sarahr0's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I average about 70, but I've kicked up the Protein lately to around 90.. 6.5 oz of thinly sliced London Broil 1 Baby Bell cheese 1 light string cheese 1/2 cup fresh pineapple 8 grilled chicken nuggets 6 Trader Joe's Raisin Rosemary Crisps The London Broil sounds like a lot and it is, but I chew on it throughout the day. The stats come out to: Calories: 775, Carb grams: 24, Fat grams: 33, Protein grams: 97. I need to make some more protein ice cream. I have some frozen blackberries .... what shall I add in? Walnuts? -
Eating When Not Hungry
Catracks replied to sramos89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, the mindless "eating crap I don't even really like because it's there" pretty much stopped. The more active I am, the less hungry I get. Weird huh? I think I still have the head hunger and eating out of boredom trouble, but the best thing to do for that is to go on a walk or bike ride and earn a little snack :-) Trust me. You don't feel so out of control. -
Pain Pump In Hospital?
Catracks replied to Laceyloveland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used the thing in recovery. Once. The nurse threatened to put me on a CPAP machine so I stopped pressing the button. I wasn't in pain - just uncomfortable from the gas. Not being drugged helped me to walk it all off faster I believe. I guess after two open abdominal surgeries, this was a breeze. -
Sleep Apnea...question
Catracks replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those nose things are the only thing that saved that sleep therapist during the sleep study. I didn't mean to, but when she put the face mask on I went into full blown panic. It was like having a hurricane strapped over your face. The nose things are gross, but slightly more tolerable. -
Sleep Apnea...question
Catracks replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just like you. My husband says I used to stop breathing every 10 seconds. I was falling asleep while typing too. Got laughed at (there are some cruel, snarky women where I work). I think I almost lost my job over it all. My CPAP didn't come until after the surgery. I never did get used to it. The first ***ht at home I pulled it off in my sleep. I woke up later and tried to put it on. No go - total panic. Happily the sleep apnea went away about 3 weeks post-op. -

I don't know about my feet, but I never had fat on the top of my head. Trip. The dude looks great. I was going to ask if it damaged his career. I got my answer. It did. He looks good, but just like 500,000 others trying to get acting jobs.

I measure and weigh my food. I also eat VERY SLOWLY - often with meal blurring into snacks or other meals. I hate the full feeling. When hiking or biking I also eat less often and less food. Weird huh? I'm also under 800 calories and plan to stay their until goal. At goal I might be able to eat 1300 calories a day -- Maybe.

My Advice To All Newly Post-Op Sleevers...
Catracks replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Jimmy, I have been neglecting my weight training. I know my legs and heart are strong. I bike and hike. I found out just how weak I was when my daughter told me to do a "bridge." Now I can do pushups (sort of), but as I lay there on my back I realized that I couldn't get my shoulders off the ground. Pathetic huh? I have 2 free weights that go up to 12 pounds each. There are so many exercises that I'm overwhelmed and sort of lost. Which exercises? How many reps? How heavy? How much time in between reps? I wish I could afford a trainer. -
What's Happening? (Lbs Vs. Size)

I started getting all these complements this week when I have barely been loosing weight according to the scale. I think I stall or go really slowly when my body is readjusting. -
Deflated & Frustrated
Catracks replied to girlnamedNikki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What PDXman said and: I didn't feel restriction until I got on solid foods. I also had an easy time of it, but I will get sick if I eat too much dense food, too fast. I don't like that full feeling so I eat very slowly. I can eat anything. I just don't anymore. I get about 70-80 grams of Protein and less that 45 grams of carbs and 30 of fat. I don't eat processed foods or sugar or much of any grains except multi-grain flour and quinoa occasionally. I get most of my carbs from fruits and veggies. i learned ways to make pizza and ice cream using protein powders and sugar free syrups. I even made SF lemon shortbread the other day. On days I hike and bike I get to have a Peanut Butter sandwich on good bread because I need the carbs. Boy, this is a treat! Otherwise it's lean protein, nuts, seeds, nonfat greek yogurt, coconut oil, olive oil, butter, cheese, fruits and vegetables. The other day I had sirloin and huge scallops with broccoli and protein ice cream. I'm on a mission to tell people that you don't have to deny yourself anything. I stay away from junk food and fast food because I can make better food myself. Today I'm going to marinate some wings in Tapatillo and bake them until crispy. Who needs Micky Dees? I've never had it so good. Since we eat such small portions, buying quality is easier on the wallet, but I'm still cheap so I only buy on sale meat and get creative with it. My lunches are a mix of fresh and leftovers. I have it a bit easy and can see how one can eat around the sleeve. We have to be extra careful. When we use it right; it works! -
Tired Of The "when Can You Have___ Again?" Questions
Catracks replied to gustavo52974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Made from Eggface's recipe www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com You can make any Protein shake into ice cream, but you have to know how to make a good shake first. I change the recipe a little. 1 cup milk (you should use anything below 2% 2 scoops vanilla Protein powder (I use SEI) 1 tbs SF lemon pudding 1 tbs SF Torani lemon syrup 1 tbs SF Torani vanilla syrup Lemon zest Optional sugar free lemon Cookies (I also had to make them myself because nobody seems to carry SF cookies) Blend ingredients except for cookies. Chill. Pour into ice cream maker. When ice cream is almost done at soft serve, pour the crush cookies in and turn it on for another minute. I've also made chocolate Almond Roca and pistachio ice cream. Good stuff! Flavors are only limited by you imagination or lack thereof. I used this ice cream maker: http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-Serve-Cream-Blueberry/dp/B003R4NE5E -
I also take 2500 mcg once a week. Labs are great.

Tired Of The "when Can You Have___ Again?" Questions
Catracks replied to gustavo52974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I eat off of each others plates all the time. Unless he really has something in mind we will happily share a plate and he says, "Order whatever. I like what you like anyway." Sometimes, especially at Mexican places we will just order communal food ala carte or combinations and split them. We like to get two Entrees and each get half of one. I'll get scallops and he'll get steak. I give him some scallops and he gives me some streak. It's more fun that way. Sometimes we will order separate and we both take home food because for a construction worker, he eats surprisingly little. Hmmm. Must be the beer. My daughter is the only one who is territorial about her food. -
Diabetes & My Sleeve!
Catracks replied to TinaMari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP won't say that I am not diabetic. He says my diabetes is "controlled" despite the fact that my a1c and blood sugar have been normal for 6 months. I'd say he's full of @#$&. -
Things To Eat Through The Day
Catracks replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, chili over eggs is quite good. I cannot do 3 meals. My restriction is such that I cannot eat enough at a sitting to get enough food in. I eat multiple small meals. Greek yogurt, egg drop soup, cottage cheese 2%, refried beans, high protein soups and such are still a part of my diet weekly. I still eat cottage cheese or yogurt every day. I also have protein shakes occasionally or protein ice cream that I make myself. Careful with the protein shots. Sometimes they use inferior protein like collagen. It should be whey isolate or egg based. There are whey based ones out there. -
Tired Of The "when Can You Have___ Again?" Questions
Catracks replied to gustavo52974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also told that I would mourn the fact that I cannot eat quantities of food and spiral into depression. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm eating better than I ever did as a morbidly obese person. Yesterday I had grilled sirloin and huge scallops -- for lunch :-) For dinner I had roasted chicken, broccoli and lemon meringue Protein ice cream. This weekend I'm going hiking and to the beach. Yeah, I'm REALLY suffering. -

Tired Of The "when Can You Have___ Again?" Questions
Catracks replied to gustavo52974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love it when waiter looks at you sadly when you ask for a box after taking about 5 good bites. I have gone completely health conscious and I tell people that fast food and things like regular ice cream do not taste good to me anymore. I make most of my food myself because salts, sugars and unhealthy fats in things makes them unpalatable. I use olive oil and coconut oil and butter. I'm here to tell you that the so called government scientists and their insistance on cereals and grains for the largest portion of your diet are dead wrong. Eating good fats encourages weight loss and is good for you. I do not eat highly processed foods. I do not eat fast food. Sliced almonds in fruit Greek yogurt tastes exquisite unlike the full sugar and fat ice cream my daughter let me taste the other day. When you change your lifestyle you get to experience fresh, natural food. Guess what? It's tastes better! I think our need to throw sugar into everything is killing us. Mix sugar with simple white flour and you have a recipe for death. I hate to seem dramatic, but am I ever learning things. Tell them you can't stand the taste of junk food any longer. -
No. You will get a bit of hair loss no matter what you do. Basically it's a delayed reaction from the stress of surgery and recovery. It happened for me at 4 months out and seemed to right itself a month later. To make sure that it doesn't continue I would just eat healthy and get your Protein in. I do want to add that for me, you couldn't tell by looking that I lost any hair. I could only tell that an inordinate amount was coming out during brushing and hair washing.

I Have Reached The Stage Where People Don't Recognize Me!
Catracks replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I so know what you mean about the riding. I got thrown last year and if I were fit, I could have landed on my feet or avoided it in the first place. As it was, I landed on the side of my posterior and messed up my lower back for 4 months. I was riding a Morgan horse so weight wasn't totally an issue with her, but still, there were many I could not ride. Good rider or not, you just do not have the same balance, coordination or reaction time. -
I had a bite of my daughter's ice cream. It was so sickening sweet that i had to get a drink of Water. I went home and made some SF Protein ice cream (Lemon Meringue flavor). It called for sugar free lemon Cookies. I went to three stores trying to find SF baked goods. There was maybe one SF pie on the shelf. I ended up making my own cookies too! I just adapted my lemon shortbread recipe to be healthier. It's not lowfat by any means, but it's whole grain and sugar free. I didn't have whole grain flour so I had to use Trader Joes whole grain baking mix. It still worked, but was a little more salty that I would have liked. Here's the recipe if you want to try them. ! stick of butter 1 tbs of lemon zest 1/4 cup Splenda 1 tsp Torani SF Lemon Syrup 1 tsp Torani SF vanilla Syrup 1 1/4 cups whole wheat or whole grain flour (or TJ whole grain baking mix) Cream butter and sugar substitute. Add zest and syrup. Slowly incorporate flour. Add a little more if dough is too wet. Turn out lightly floured board. Pat to about 1/4" or thickness you want your cookies. Cut your cookies either by knife or cookie cutter (I used a very small leaf shaped cookie cutter so my cookies are 1" long). Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 15 minutes @ 325. You don't need the Torani Syrup, but I felt I needed some more flavored sweetness with the baking mix. My recipe turned out 50 little shortbread cookies. According to My Fitness Pal, each cookie has 28 calories, 2 grams of fat and 2 grams of carbs.
