Help! Best Fast Food Option W/ Protein?!
Catracks replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That article is wrong. It says "Contains the same amount of cholesterol as a Big Mac." It doesn't. Child's grilled chicken (4 piece): Big Mac Calories: 80 550 Cholesterol: 40 mg 75 Sodium: 560 mg 1000 Fat: 1 g 29 Protein: 7 g The six piece has 65. Still either a boldfaced lie or they "exaggerated" a LOT. I don't count cholesterol anyway. Dietary cholesterol does not equal blood cholesterol. The sodium is high, but I'm not focused on that either for a once in a while thing. The chicken patty would not be all that different. -

What The Hairloss Looks Like...
Catracks replied to Wheetsin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair loss lasted for a couple months and is now completely resolved. I have shoulder length thinnish hair. The picture on my profile is during the hair loss and as you can see, I'm not balding. I'm on the left BTW. Messed up hair from hiking, but still hairy :-) -
I don't handle plain bread well. It can swell in your stomach and it tends to make me nauseated. Toasted whole grain and rustic breads are better, but I never eat bread unless I'm on a hike or long bike ride or something very strenuous. When I do, it's usually half a large slice -- with peanut butter. YUM!

Any grilled chicken without breading (El Pollo Loco, etc.), In and Out will do a burger "Protein style" (wrapped in lettuce), 3 Entrees at Panda Express are good (Angus Steak, Peppercorn Shrimp and Chicken with green beans), Subway (I get the turkey and avocado without the bread, ask for toppings and turn it into a salad) Watch the dressing. Taco Bell pintos and cheese I suppose or maybe one taco done with the pico de gallo rather than the cheese. Stay away from the national chains like McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box, etc. Sonic pretty much bites too. -
6 oz coffee 2 oz 2% milk 1 scoop Max Protein chocolate (I use SEI) http://www.seinutrition.com/products/MAX-PROTEIN.html 1 tbs SF Torani chocolate syrup 1 shake (1/4 to 1/2 tsp?) of SF chocolate Instant Jello pudding. You could also use unsweetened cocoa powder instead of the Jello I suppose. I usually get the milk and coffee almost frozen. Throw it in a blender and there you go. You can top it with fat free/sugar free whipped cream if you like and dust with cinnamon or the before mentioned cocoa powder.

Super! I don't see a darn thing wrong with the SF hot chocolate. I just never drank it because it was utterly tasteless to me and I can make killer mocha Protein shakes that taste like Starbucks frappachino thingies. Smart mixing in the Fiber. Don't you have to drink it real fast before it gels up?

Where is your protein? You should be getting no less than 70 grams per day. It's possible. I used the clear Isopure on my 2 weeks of clear liquids. Two bottles of that and I was getting 80 grams a day.

I was going to say something about the fake Yoplait Greek yogurt, but someone beat me to it. I like Chobani best. My daughter hates Greek yogurt too, but she still eats sugar. I don't and have always liked the tartness. That's okay. This way she won't eat my yogurt. The pineapple and lemon are my favorite. I know about the carbs in the flavored ones, but I still am under 45 for the day so I don't sweat it.

Digital Food Scale.. Is It Worth It?
Catracks replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to weigh food as well as measure. 6 fl. oz is not the same as 6 oz. One is weight the other is volume. Sorry if I'm being obvious. I really cannoit eye portions well enough - especially cheese. I you get 2 oz. rather than 1 oz. that is 100 extra calories. ! oz. could only be an inch of cheese so I'd rather not guess. I got mine off Ebay. It measures in grams and ounces. -
Any Problems With Lobster?
Catracks replied to CamarilloCA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you ate too much, too quickly. It still happens to me sometimes, but rarely. I do eventually learn -- sort of. I personally don't skip the butter. Just make sure it is real clarified butter and not the fake stuff. Butter, olive oil and coconut oil has a lot of calories, but it is part of a healthy diet in small quantities. You don't have to saturate it. Just dip a tip or as you say, drizzle. Boy do I love coconut oil. I am hooked! -

I change my ticker obsessively too. If I lose a pound, I want those little suckers to say so. I don't do much with my profile. -
Jesse Jackson Jr. Had A Duodenal Switch
Catracks replied to Sansa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The diagram they have shows a sleeve gastrectomy with a DS. Yes, a Vitamin B-12 deficiency can cause mental confusion, but basically, I believe that if you have a mental condition going in, the stress and change could acerbate the symptoms. Also, not everybody mourns the loss of food in quantity and then goes into depression and develops replacement addictions because weight loss was not all they thought it would be. In Jackson's case he very well could be blaming his criminal behavior on everything else but his own decisions. He'd probably be doing just peachy had he not been caught. I guess that I really believe in the sleeve and I don't like it being lumped in with the band or gastric bypass. I also hate misinformation. -
A word about butter. It's a LOT better for you than plain vegetable oil like peanut, Canola, etc. I eat butter, olive oil and coconut oil in limited amounts of course. Saturated fats do not necessarily equal fat. Carbs do equal fat. If you body does not use what you eat for instant energy, it stores it as fat. Protein and fats are metabolized differently. That said: About the only thing I would trust at a fair is the before mentioned turkey leg, grilled chicken or those Mexican trucks that sell the shrimp cocktail with avocado. I have also seen fresh fruit and nuts. Careful with the nuts. They are good protein, but a serving is usually 1/4 cup. Obviously do not get the sugar encrusted ones. Oh yeah! Gourmet beef Jerky is great!

Seared rare or raw for me too. Trader Joe's sells it. Whole Foods and other higher end or specialty markets would too. It isn't cheap, but since we don't eat much ...

I Was So "disappointed"
Catracks replied to kmbrlycool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have clothes down to size 8. I have a bunch of medium and small tops too. I swear that some are 30 years old. I have a pair of trunks from Hawaii that my dad wore in 1957. Pack-rat am I. I wear plain kick-around, not trendy clothes so they never really go out of style. -
Watching Obese People, Wanting To Help, Knowing I Can't
Catracks posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to be brutally honest here. I was in traffic court yesterday and there were these two very large women. One had a cane and the other a walker. They were in their 30s-40s. They had to sit down in the seats and they could only manage to turn sideways and somewhat sit on the edge of the seats. One young man in his 20s didn't even really fit through the gate to go see the commissioner. I was considering my life and how it has changed dramatically in only 6 months. This past week I reached the summit of a 10,000 ft. peak.. Seven months ago, you couldn't get me to walk down the street. I was even starting to avoid friend's parties. I wasn't rude and didn't stare, but I started looking at these people who have so much life ahead of them. Out in line 1 out of 10 people were probably morbidly or super morbidly obese. I thanked God for my blessings and just went to work. Man, I want to tell everyone about this. Eggface is going to be on Ricki Lake, but we need more info out there. -

On Saturday I went on a medical talk show on KFWB. That station broadcasts to all of Southern California. I asked a question about resolving diabetes and he ask me questions about the sleeve for about 20 minutes. I hope someone heard and looked into it. -
I Was So "disappointed"
Catracks replied to kmbrlycool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to Goodwill and get yourself some new or practically new clothes. No reason to be swimming in your clothes. People give away things - sometimes with the tags still on. Ebay is another cheap way to get clothes. I was in a size 14 for only two weeks. I just went and found a bunch of size 12s. Now I'm almost out of them. The only thing I really HAVE to buy new is underwear obviously. -

Revised Goal Or Giving Up? W/ Pics
Catracks replied to LacieMC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my!!!!! You look friggen FANTASTIC!!!! Yeah, my surgeon says I should be at 110 pounds. I told him that when I was 110 pounds, I was emaciated and wearing a size 0 and didn't he think that was excessive? He said, that's just what the insurance charts say. Whatever. I'm going for 130 and as you can see by my ticker, it is with range of normal, healthy weight. I mean, what's wrong with a size 4-6? Hell, I could live with me now fine because my labwork is great and my BP is great and my endurance is great. I can do almost anything. Still, I want to get into that goal I set for myself. It's not unreasonable. -

Any Tips On Getting Past A Weight Plateau?
Catracks replied to bartons123@msn.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing everything right. There is no fix-it in this case but time. I lost 50 pound in my first 4 months and then I hit some major stalls. Then one day, doing nothing different I lost 3 pounds in 3 days. I just have to adjust my thinking because I am of the "git-er-done" type of people. You are losing inches during these plateaus and it might even be better for us in the long run. Two weeks is nothing. Try a month If you like, up your Protein to 90 grams and do some long term exercise on the weekend like a hike or a bike ride that is over 7 miles with some hills on the bike and mountain on the hike. You will then see if your cardio and weight training is giving you what you need for results. Your body gets used to the same intensity. Up your reps and duration too.
