    Most Humiliating Fat Moment

Actually you should ask for a separate forum with the title: "Sleevers With Special Needs Children/Family Members"

    Most Humiliating Fat Moment

Did you see this article? Rare is right. I'm actually totally surprised that most of us aren't missing parts of chromosomes. So many things can happen. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1013508/?page=1

    Most Humiliating Fat Moment

My heart breaks for that little girl. I love animals too and especially horses. I would have gone straight out and gotten you on a real horse. Heck, If you lived near me I would take you riding with me on Saturday :-)

    How Much Can Poop Weigh?

I weigh totally nekkid, no jewelry and post bathroom visit. Pathetic. Rootman, you take "full of sh@#" to a whole new level.
  7. After losing 85 pounds of the 116, someone you see almost every day asks: "Have you lost weight?" Really? I thought I was oblivious sometimes. I could only say, "Uh, yeah."

    Most Humiliating Fat Moment

I always wondered how I would handle having a special needs kid. My cousin's boy is autistic and I'm not sure I could step up like she did/does. She's amazing.

    What Vitamins Do You Take?

I take a chewable multi with iron, sub-lingual B-12 and two calcium chews with vitamin D. My last blood test showed me low on vitamin E so I take and extra one of those, once a week.
  10. Still pushing on, but I swear, this last 30 pounds seem to be coming off so slowly! Don't get me wrong. My diet and exercise are fine, but this last bit is so super stubborn. I'm just looking for stories about being close to goal and having the weight loss just crawl. Is is like that for everyone?

    What's Your Sign?

Just a note on the incision bleeding. I had that, but I hesitate to call what I had a complication. My first night home my largest incision opened a bit a I bled through 3 dish towels. I called the surgeon and he said to put a gauze pad on it. so that's what I did. Actually, we went out and got iodine, butterfly bandages and gauze. The butterfly will hold the wound together and the gauze will soak up the drainage. This continued for a week and a half. What I had was a lot of subcutaneous blood and no drain. No big deal. I advise all newbies of this because you can look really silly with a blood spot on your shirt. Your body either absorbs it or it drains out.

    What's Your Sign?

What's your sign? My sign says "Stupid," but I'm told that I am a Cancerian. How would you rate your physical recovery post op (1-10, 1 being miserably long healing, 10 being fast & easy healing) A 10. I was horseback riding after two weeks. No pain meds after the recovery room and then I only gave myself one dose. How would you rate your emotional state post-op (1-10) 10. I was on an emotional high. I was so glad to have gotten it done. How would you rate your food tolerances? Can you keep things down r do you find that many food 'don't agree with you' now? 10. I can eat anything. I don't though. How would you rate your general success with the sleeve. Have you made goal or are you on target to do so? (1-10). 9. There are probably faster losers out there and people who stay on track better, but I rank. I am 30 pounds from goal. Please if you had complications, etc please give details. N/A
  13. Eat the salad and the sausage and the Sunday gravy over zucchini or a tiny bit of whole wheat Pasta. Add some ricotta and mozzarella. I don't know about you all, but bracciole is still on my menu. I just cut out the breadcrumbs when I make it. Even if someone else makes it, it's a little thing. There's not that much in there. Last time my dad made meatballs, he cut the breadcrumbs way down. I also still eat hot Italian sausage and Alpino, Genoa and Buon Gusto salami and cacciocavallo and aged provolone cheese and pepperoni and soprasata and .... Just cut the pasta and bread. It's not that much of a sacrifice in the end. Grill that zucchini brushed in olive oil then top with sauce. YUM! MMMMMMMM bracciole!!!
  14. My body tends to rearrange itself and lose inches during those so-called stalls. Cheri is right. Everyone is different and I tend do not do well when I add wheat to my diet. For me is not a simple case of calorie deficit. I only differ with Cheri in that there are some things that I can no longer do in moderation because it affects me badly. Sugar tops the list. Highly processed foods are next. Plain white bread, white Pasta and white rice are others. Thankfully I can work around all that super easily. Yes, I have become an annoying health food nut. I think the basic rules of Protein first, lower glycemic fruits and vegetables and a smaller yet amount of HEALTHY carbs will work for us. It's a pain tracking and measuring food sometimes. but it's not difficult. Don't let the stalls get you down because they are a normal part of the weight loss process. Just keep doing everything you are supposed to be doing with eating and exercising and it's going to come off. When I tell anybody how many calories I take in they think I'm starving myself. I don't know where the magic "nothing below 1200" came from either.
  15. You're a moron Kidding. Welcome to the board. The sleeve is going to work. Period. There are some life-long habits to break, but now you will have a tool that works. There are lots of cooking strategies that will help you. I tell everyone to go here: TheworldaccordingtoEggface.com She is bypass, but her way of cooking is general bariatric friendly and it's good stuff. She was once 5' and 300+ pounds. She is now a knockout.

    Stomach Stretching

No friggen way it can stretch out to normal size. I believe you can eat around the sleeve, but stretching from 4-6 oz to ONE QUART???!!! Right. I have read studies that show after 5 years it can stretch to 8oz. We are talking sleeve here and not pouch. That was a scare tactic. She needed it though. VERY irresponsible. She is doing the opposite of what she should be doing. I have to ask WHY? She is not "struggling." She wasn't even trying by her own admission. It almost seemed like self-sabotage, but with a lackadaisical attitude. Just continue to measure food, eat high Protein, lower carb, no sugar, alcohol as a seldom treat. Why go through all that just to ---- it up?
  17. Ground beef is the first thing that made me hurl too. From studies that I have read, 5 years out our stomachs might go from a 4oz. capacity to 8 oz. Big deal huh? This isn't a pouch and not all that stretchy. My full signal is slight hiccups. Eating too much, too fast will cause pain and nausea so I don't go there. Doughy, yeasty bread will swell and cause pain for me.
  18. I am almost 7 months out and stay around 750-800 calories. The general rule is Protein first, then some veggies and fruits in small amounts. If I am mountain hiking or doing something strenuous then I might up my carbs a little and have some good, healthy bread. I don't eat refined sugar at all or highly processed foods. If I want to add calories, I will eat a handful of almonds or pistachios or an oz. of cheese. A little of those go a long way. I eat a modified Paleo (or some call it "Primal") diet and here is what I'm eating today for Breakfast and lunch 3 oz sirloin 24 small shrimp sauteed in coconut oil Greek yogurt 6 oz 1/8 cup sliced almonds (love them in my yogurt!) 1/2 cup broccoli For dinner I might have some chicken breast and more broccoli - although some baby back ribs are calling my name. I can eat 2 or three. I skip the sugary sauce though and make my own. P.S. I mix coffee in my chocolate Protein powder. I will usually do 6 oz of coffee and 2 oz of 2% milk. I make my own protein ice cream and don't eat sugar. I also won't eat mayo because at 100 calories a TBS, its a waste. Try mixing your chicken salad with high protein plain Greek yogurt instead. Add a few cranberries, grapes or nuts in. Got my labs back. Everything is normal. I haven't been sick a day.
  19. I totally agree. I just read about this the other day. Let's see if I can find it .... HERE. It has to do with restoring leptin levels. http://www.marksdail.../#axzz23Re6yB63 BTW, I'm mostly sticking to 750-800 calories until maintenance. It seems to work for me, but these last 30 pounds are as stubborn as hell!
  20. I had 2 weeks of clear, 2 weeks of full and 2 weeks of puree -- so the answer I would give is week 3. I always had an Iron stomach, but I do attribute some of my fast recovery to a very strict liquid diet for the first 6 weeks.

    My Food Funeral.

Amen to that!!! I eat better food now than pre-sleeve. My weekend was filled with ribeye steak, baby back ribs and some almond butter that I made. I also found plenty of awesome recipes. I suggest you try TheworldaccordingtoEggface.com. She is a gastric bypass patient, but we eat very similar. She was the first one that made me realize that I could eat vvery well post surgery. I have come across some people who just all out mourn that they are unable to go to a buffet and eat it quantity anymore. I don't know why, but I never went down that road. I do still love food, but it doesn't need to come in such bulk. My tastes didn't change at all, but one thing I have noticed is that I simply do not partake of food that I am ambivalent about. I mean, I used to eat a bag of Funyuns just because they were there. I don't even LIKE them. Why did I used to eat them anyway? I can eat anything, but what I do eat is a lot of beef, pork, chicken, turkey, seafood, cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, fruit, vegetables and a very, very limited amount of grains. Like someone said, It might suck a bit at first, but you will love the new you.

    Plethora Of ?s

As I recall, Metamucil also gels up. I use Citracel, but it's fine if you just down it. -- and it WORKS!! Best thing though is to eat some broccoli or such. It's always best to do it the natural way. When I was on mushies I made this killer broccoli cheese soup.
  23. Wait until he see the mom you will become. You will feel so good that you may run circle around him soon. I'm not kidding. I drag my daughter up mountains these days. Dang lazy teenagers.
  24. If you still have trapped gas, you need to get up and walk. That's all I did when I came out of surgery. I was warned about the gas and everyone here was right. Walk and sip, walk and sip. The more you use your muscles, the faster you will recover. This is your single and only job right now.
  25. Ack! Don't do it. Why on earth do they call it a Protein Bento Box. More like a carb, saturated fat box. http://www.myfitness...to-box-29028902 This one is very do-able if you throw out the tortilla. http://www.starbucks.com/menu/food/bistro-boxes/chipotle-chicken-wraps-bistro-box?foodZone=9999
