    Popcorn

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE popcorn!!! I would advise against movie theater or microwave popcorn. It's full of trans fat and dangerous chemicals. I pop my own on the stove top with a tiny bit olive or coconut oil, I sneak it into theaters and take it with me to amusement parks and fairs too so I won't eat their crap food. Face it, popcorn is a treat and it smells decadent, but it's light on the fat and calories. If I don't have anything but fruit or veggies that day, the carbs are fine. I would wait until 3 month post-op at least.
  2. It's a "Goal Post" LMAO. Congratulations. Were the last 20 REALLY slow? They are for me!

    Any Smokers?

The surgeon barely mentioned in, but only on the nutritional and information guide. I quit 2 weeks before surgery and started up 3 months after. I smoke 1 or 2 cigarettes a day. Cigarettes and diet soda are my vices.

    Crying This Morning

By my two week appointment my A1C was 4.5 and fasting sugar was 100. Before surgery my A1C was in the 7s.

    Severe Osteoarthritis-Knees

I had a lateral release operation on my right knee 25 years ago. When I gained the weight it put enormous pressure on my knees and lower back. I have the beginning of arthritis in my back. I was walking with a limp and couldn't/didn't want to walk far. Now I hike up 10,000 ft. mountains.

    Loose Skin

I have what my husband calls "The kangaroo pouch." It looks fine under clothes, but it is a bother. When I was 35 and lost 60 pounds my skin went back pretty much. Now at 47 with 120+ to lose on a 5'1" frame ... not so much. I will get the pouch fixed because it gets in my way. The arm skin, inner thigh skin and sagging boobies aren't that bad. The puppies still look good in a bra and 47 year old me is not wearing short shorts much (you know, the one's that practically show one's butt?) Any excess skin is COMPLETELY worth it.

    Happy Endings!

I was dying. I has severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes and fatty liver disease. I was falling asleep at work. I almost lost my job because of it. I am now in site of goal and the sleep apnea is gone as is the high blood pressure (120/60 now), diabetes and fatty liver. I have so much energy that I go on 5 mile hikes AFTER WORK. I just bought a kayak. I also rocked a size 8 cocktail dress at a premiere yesterday. My recovery was great. I never took the morphine after the first dose of it. Didn't need it. Frankly that what I think makes people nauseated. I walked and sipped constantly. The gas dissipated and I was so bored in the hospital I started thinking about ways to get out of there early. I asked my surgeon if he would clear me for horseback riding at my two week appointment and he cleared me for everything. A few people have complications, but I wasn't one of them.
  8. EVERYTHING! I have so much energy that I'm practically running in circles. I drag my husband on hikes -- after work. I'm confident instead of timid. I even sing better if that makes any sense (I'm in a church choir). It's all about confidence and when I was obese, I just wanted to hide all the time and do nothing. It's no way to live. What MoreganK said about being ME again was right on the nose. My husband and I are SO much closer. He always loved me no matter what size. i treasure that about him, but he had to put up with an unhappy person.
  9. Please let us know what you find out if it's not too personal. It may be related or may not. I am curious.
  10. My surgeon set 110 as my goal. I set it 130 which is a respectable 24 BMI. I asked him if he really expects me to wear a size 14 in children's clothing rather than a size 4.
  11. I hate that word -- "Obese." It's hung on me with extra identifiers like "Super-morbidly" The closer I get to goal, the slower the weight loss, but it's still going down. The inches are too. I just moved solidly into 10s and can wear some 8s. I am now smaller than my very fit husband who wears a 32. I started out as a tight size 22W I should look at some before pics, but they are hard to find since I used to duck out of photos.
  12. I'm 8 months out. I am very short so it's only 25 or so pounds to go to hit "normal" weight.

    Grazing?

I still eat that way. As I posted on another thread, I do not like the very full feeling I get so I weigh and portion my food for the workday which includes Breakfast, lunch and a snack. The I eat it very slowly throughout the day. I stick to my nutritional guide for calories, fat and carbs by plugging everything into My Fitness Pal. This won't work for everyone, but it works for me. I would define "grazing" as uncontrolled and undocumented snacking throughout the day, e.g. a handful of chips here, a half a cookie there, some nuts as you pass by the kitchen, some cheese as you pass again ... It sounds the same, but you really do not know how much you've been eating.
  14. I still get the abnormally overly full feeling sometimes. There are times when I can eat but a few bites and some days when very dense food doesn't feel good. Just listen to your body and have Soup and yogurt that day. I don't like the very full feeling at all. What I do is portion and weigh my food for the work day and eat it slowly throughout the day. This won't work for all, but it works for me. I also had the urination problem. For about a month around month four, I felt as you do. It may have been a UTI. I'm not sure. I took cranberry extract and drank even more Water and it resolved. That wasn't smart though. Bladder infections can progress to kidney infections.

    Isopure...gross!

It was only for two weeks. I didn't like the stuff too much, but like the guy at GNC said, "You just do what ya gotta do." I was able to get my Protein and fluids in that way (2 bottles a day). The protein shots are okay as long as the protein is whey or egg based. Some protein shots are collagen which is useless.

    Inter-Dry!

Okay, not sure why this ad bothers me so much, but it follows me from Sleeve Talk to My Fitness Pal. I have that skin to skin thing because I have loose skin on my lower abdomen that is irritated. I guess what bothers me most is the illustration in the ad. It is the most unflattering thing ever and being formerly obese now and having the icky skin thing now, it's not something I like to look at. Imagine if someone illustrated my body right now with all the hanging skin. Ick. Like I say. I don't know why it bothers me really/ Maybe it's because my dermatologist suggested that I use a medication like that for life instead of getting plastic surgery. Maybe it's everything. Since it's a rant board. That is my rant. I HATE that advertisement!

    Anyone Start At 240Ish Lbs?

Love those birds. It's nice to get your egg from little friends.s I do my nut butter in small batches (1 cup nuts + 1 TBS coconut oil). It takes around 5 minutes to grind it to nut butter stage, but I only do it for a minute at a time to let the motor rest. I use a tiny 1.5 cup mini processor. Bigger batches wouldn't go bad if they were stored in the refrigerator. Just leave out your serving or microwave for a tiny bit to get it spreadable. You might need to stir a bit, but mine never really separated. Coconut oil has a long shelf life.

    Anyone Start At 240Ish Lbs?

I have a rooster and 3 hens. They are arucana mixes and lay jumbo green eggs. I let them out into the yard yesterday and they had a ball. They are Frankie, Penny, kit and Blanche (named after grandparents - I'll bet they'd be thrilled).

    Anyone Start At 240Ish Lbs?

I still drink diet soda, drink Crystal light and smoke one or two cigarettes a day. I also drink coffee on rare occasions. The carbonation hasn't negatively affected me. The other stuff is bad news. I hate the chemicals, but I simply cannot drink plain Water in the amounts I need. I'm really serious about cooking from scratch at home though. We were going to the lake and while my family got their junk food, I thought I'd go over to the Vons supermarket deli and get health stuff. I got two grilled chicken breasts (they were tiny) and a bit of broccoli salad (I know - mayo and sugar) and some light string cheese. . Still, better that greasy fried chicken and potato salad. I looked at the container and there was a HUGE list of ingredients. I said to myself, "Self, what could be in chicken breast?" Well there was soy Protein, BHA, polysobitol whatever this and that and the other. That's funny. When I make grilled chicken at home there is chicken, pepper, salt and herbs. The broccoli salad was worse. Mine has broccoli, cashews, bacon, red onion and mayonnaise I make myself from backyard eggs. What in the hell are they doing??? It should say: Chicken breast with a lot of preservatives and fillers. BTW, I have made Peanut Butter, almond butter, cashew butter, pistachio butter and walnut butter from scratch at home. No added crap. Not sugar even - just nuts and coconut oil. SO GOOD!
  20. Excellent idea!!!! BTW, I came late to this party, but I'm in!

    Anyone Start At 240Ish Lbs?

240 pounds and 5'1" is classified as SUPER morbidly obese. I weighed 246 and was almost dead. Try again. Anyway, to the OP: I eat very high Protein and low carb. I measure, weigh and log everything on My Fitness Pal. I also hike, bike, kayak and swim.

    Protein Question-5 Days Post-Op

Yes, dehydration could put you back in the hospital. That's why I though those clear Isopure whey isolate drinks were heaven sent. The enabled me to get all my fluids plus 80 grams of protein a day. Win-win! I stopped after I went to full liquids after two weeks because of the expense, but it's worth it for those two weeks.

    Weight Gain

A 4 oz serving of ahi tuna has about 30 grams of Protein. Why no Beans? Beans were the first mushy food I ate. I am a total carnivore. Always have been.

    Weight Gain

You eat fresh ahi tuna, salmon, scallops, white fish, shrimp, beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, Greek yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, nuts and Beans. At least that's how I do it.

    I Can Eat Too Much!

Yep, I measure my food and probably always will - meaning that I portion things out. I don't eat a plateful of something until I'm full. You also need to recognize your satiated signal. To some it's a burp or a hiccup. To others it's just a sigh. Do not eat until you are full. That's the too much food signal. Eating until uncomfortable is WAY too much food. Eating until you have to vomit is EXTREMELY WAY too much food.
