At 8 weeks I was pretty much unable to over-indulge. Now at 10 months I can a little. I suggest you do what you have been doing which is protein first, then filling the edges with healthy things. We usually have a couple healthier vegetable dishes and a tiny bit of mashed potato won't hurt anyone. Just eat the turkey and veggies. They're good for you.

Coming Full Circle.. Almost Two Years Out...
Catracks replied to Gina A.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome back. I'm stuck in the mother of all stalls with 20 pounds more to lose. I so want to get to goal. I'm thinking of going back on shakes for a week and see what happens. If they took my tickers off, I will be SO PISSED!! Okay. Why in the hell was that even necessary? What if I don't like their damned tickers? I checked. I don't like their tickers. They suck. Here, guess my damn weight. -
Do Non-Sleevers Eat This Much Protein?
Catracks replied to doxieville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You get tired of chewing? You may find out later that shakes will not satisfy you as your sleeve starts to heal. Dense protein is the best, but you can also eat Beans. We just made some navy bean and ham Soup. There is a gal here somewhere who had the best recipes for homemade protein packed Soups. She was called the soup lady or something like that. The flavors are so varied that it would be hard to get tired of them. Don't forget eggs! You can throw different meats, cheeses and veggies in eggs. Eggs are great for leftovers. I once threw bean sprouts from some Chinese place in the eggs. Tasted like egg foo young. -
Do Non-Sleevers Eat This Much Protein?
Catracks replied to doxieville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it works that way. Protein is first used to repair cells and make them function. Only after that is done are they used for energy when all the carbs have been used up. We eat so little that I seriously doubt anything is left over for fat storage. -
Do Non-Sleevers Eat This Much Protein?

I will add a little bit of healthy carbs back in during maintenance, but I will continue to eat high protein. -
Frustrated! :( Feeling Really Down.. :(
Catracks replied to msemma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would NOT change your calorie load. Just get in between 60-90 grams of protein, keep the carbs down and drink your water. Stalls are natural. They are your bodies way of recalibrating for the next bout of weight loss. Every time I have stalled, I have lost inches. Exercise is good for health in general, but your body will lose when it is ready. I know we all want to have an active solution, but there it is. I am still between 750-800 calories at 10 months out. I see Chimera says the same thing. We posted about the same time. -
Short People Success Stories?
Catracks replied to Thinner Peace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5'1" on a good day. Started at 246 and today am exactly 150 pounds. Hoping to hit the century mark with a couple weeks. Oh, I see you want pics. I'll have to see about that tomorrow. -
The protein shakes go down easier. On my 4th week I was still on full liquids (protein shakes, yogurt, etc.) I still have a protein shake now an then. My favorite is Max Protein chocolate, with cold coffee and sugar free chocolate Torani syrup. Sometimes i shake in a quarter tsp. of sugar free chocolate pudding mix or cocoa powder. I do everything from blackberry to lemon cream to chocolate almond roca. You can make them taste incredible if you work at it a little. Greek yogurt is high in protein and goes down easy. My favorite is Chobani, I wasn't actually eating solids until week 7 and even then I was gradually introducing things.

I haven't quite yet lost 100 pounds, but 96 pounds and 10 months out? MIRACLE! No diabetes? MIRACLE! No sleep apnea or BIPAP machine? MIRACLE! No high blood pressure? MIRACLE! Size 8? MIRACLE! Size 8 skinny jeans? MIRACLE! Slinky cocktail dress? MIRACLE! Fit into amusement park ride with tons of room to spare? MIRACLE! Not having to go sideways through a turnstile? MIRACLE! Have my husband not be able to keep his hands or eyes off me? Well, he's always been that way God bless him. The miracle will happen!

Someone Advised Me Against The Surgery Today...
Catracks replied to beba238's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No way would I be subjected to 1 1/2 hours of that kind of talk. I cannot even abide 5 minutes of it. What? They think we're doing this on a whim. I researched for a year. I've been through every "diet" from Nutrisystem to Phentermine. What I knew is that I had a bottomless pit for a stomach. You can now eat right and have the ability to portion control. After losing a small bit of weight, exercise feels great! Somebody wants to speak their mind in one or two sentences? Fine. Somebody wants to lecture me? Thank you, but go pound sand. -
Old Habits Are Hard To Break, The Art Of Not Wasting Food
Catracks replied to CamarilloCA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't waste food. Ever. I will measure out food (I still weigh and measure 10 months out) and store the rest. I will eat the leftovers until it is gone. Five day old refrigerated food is fine by me. If I get truly tired of something it goes to the chickens. If I'm not in a position to measure things, my eyes can be bigger than my stomach so I just portion a tiny bit. If I'm still hungry I can go back, but it's rarely necessary. That's how normal people eat right? I was at a potluck yesterday and made sure I got one teaspoon of everything. I'm learning. Funny about some parents and control issues. Many times I have sat at the table for hours al a Mommy Dearest in front of lima Beans, oatmeal with milk, soggy Cereal in milk, hominy or liver. I still hate those foods today. One time I actually blistered my throat swallowing hot oatmeal. -
Lets Talk Coffee
Catracks replied to PerfectlyImperfect's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started putting coffee in my protein shakes after I was off of clear liquids (2 weeks). I just don't live on it. I have a cup every other day. When I do, WOW! Alcohol isn't the only thing that affects us quicker. I catch a buzz off one cup! -
California DMV is cheap. they renewed my license and refused to take a new picture a few years ago. Now I will go back in and say that they refused my credit card because the picture no longer looks like me. We'll see how THAT flies.

Twenty More Pounds To Lose And I'm Stuck, Stuck, Stuck!
Catracks posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They said it gets harder, but this is ridiculous. I know if I went on protein shakes I could probably lose it, but I have gotten a little sloppy as to my food choices of late. I lose and gain the same 2 pounds over and over again. ARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! -
Yeah, I posted about the same thing a while ago. I hate them.

Depends on the day. Today I am not very hungry. I'm 10 months out.

Food For Family, Etc After Wls
Catracks replied to MaryDrew's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I came to here to say what most people said: Teach the teenagers how to cook. The crock pot thing is a good idea and it will produce meals that you will be able to eat after you get back on solids. I started cooking and freezing Soups and things for myself 1 month before surgery. I was really able to cook as soon as I got home, but not everybody sails through it. This is a good excuse to get those kids learning how to run their own house. -
High Protein Food Choices--When You Really Don't Like Shakes.....
Catracks replied to Texarkolina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I want to get a lot of protein in and use little space, I usually go for the seafood. The best are ahi tuna (not the canned crud), salmon, followed by shrimp and scallops. -
I love the sugar free Fudgesicles and the sugar free jello pudding in the cup. I also bake high fiber sugar free cookies and make protein, sugar free ice cream. You won't miss the sugar. Actually, eating full sugar things make me feel sluggish and leave a sickening taste in my mouth.

Very Upset Right Now
Catracks replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have told her about the surgery just because I feel that she is ignorant. We are statistically MUCH more successful and who in the heck has money to pay a trainer for the rest of our lives? For me, it's not the exercise - it's how I eat. The exercise keeps me fit, but it really has a tiny affect on my weight. If it were mostly exercise, I would not have lost the weight. I need the restriction period. -
Singing After Sleeved
Catracks replied to Mslnzee2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sing in a choir and was back to it two weeks post-op. No problems. Now, 10months later, my voice had improved. I breathe so much better and it's helped my technique. Much more chord. -
How To Lose The Last 10 Lbs.....
Catracks replied to Blugirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just posted on this very topic. I've got 20 more to lose and I lose and gain the same two pounds. It's excruciatingly slow. I have been getting sloppy in my eating though and acting like I am more on maintenance. Now I know that maintenance will be pretty easy on me, but I need to clamp down and stop with the treats I have been letting myself have. We just had a party and my house is stuffed with enchiladas, au gratin potatoes, lasagna, Pasta salad, chips, cheesecake and other temptations. I have been doing well, but well for someone on maintenance. -
Okay Ladies... I Need Some Help.
Catracks replied to jhbk2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just really hate the misinformation that comes with the laziness or surgeons who start doing the sleeve and don't bother to change the literature that their office gives out and don't bother to change their approach to the post-op care of people who have had very different surgeries. -
Okay Ladies... I Need Some Help.
Catracks replied to jhbk2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my fibroid tumors out. I had one the size of a grapefruit. Next best decision apart from the sleeve. Sorry about the endometriosis. Can much be done? Here's the thing: the no NSAIDS are really for Gastric bypass pouch folks. I think most surgeons that do bariatric surgery and mostly do bypass just use this as a blanket rule. Look what this article says: Vertical sleeve gastrectomy patients and duodenal switch patients, on the other, are free to use NSAIDS as needed. Patients who regularly use NSAIDS to treat conditions like arthritis sometimes opt for the vertical sleeve gastrectomy or duodenal switch instead of gastric bypass or lap band so that they will be able to continue using the medication they need after surgery. http://voices.yahoo.com/medications-after-weight-loss-surgery-5256817.html and this article by Dr. Aceves: "Patients with diseases requiring treatment with NSAIDS or Steroids or other medications that irritate the stomach should consider the Gastric Sleeve, with the advice of their physician." http://gastricsleevesurgeon.com/faq_gastric_sleeve.html -
Haters And Nosy Folk!
Catracks replied to Changing B4YourEyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must be the luckiest person. I don't know what is said behind my back at work, but I get the best compliments to my face at least. My family all know and they have been truly supportive. That "Don't lose anymore weight because you are looking sick" comment was beyond rude. Keep working that sleeve and doing it for you and your health. We all here are very proud of you.
