Now that is a new feeling...

My daughter doesn't like to put her head on my shoulder anymore. "Too boney" she says. YAY -- I guess -
I Need A Kick In The A** -- Any Takers?
Catracks replied to Ms. Scarlett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not on track today. Guess who had two piece of See's candy this morning. Still under for calories, but sheesh! They put out candy constantly here. I'll nip this in the bud. -
Praying might help. Seriously, it all depends on age, genetics and how much and how long you've carried the weight. It still looks a hell of a lot better than fat and nobody can tell under clothes.

I Need A Kick In The A** -- Any Takers?
Catracks replied to Ms. Scarlett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To hell with the hugs. I want to kick you in the arse Stop with the damn snacking unless it's part of your planned menu, eat Protein first and then veggies to fill in the edges. Cut the bread, rice, Pasta, or any other white flour, nutritionally devoid OUT! Get it out of the house! Exercise and especially do weight training to keep lean muscle and speed up metabolism. Things get harder the closer you are to goal so get working you slug and MOVE IT, MOVE IT, MOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How's that? -
Constant Grazing...is It A Problem?
Catracks replied to WLTrainee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat slowly throughout the day so one meal blends into another. However, and this is important: I weigh and measure EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth and enter it on My Fitness Pal. If I were just to eat whatever all day in whatever amount it would be a disaster in my case. For instance, did you know that just 1/4 cup of walnuts had 200 calories? I could eat that without even thinking about it. -
What Foods Did You Have To Give Up-Can't Eat Any Longer?
Catracks replied to NurseMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Movie popcorn is also bad news. They ruin a perfectly healthy snack with the amount and type of oil they use. I pop it at home and take it in. Just be discreet. It will save you $10 as well. -

Be extremely careful with microwave popcorn. The oil they use is toxic. It's easy to pop it yourself in a tiny bit of olive oil on the stove top. Eh, use a lid :-) -
What Foods Did You Have To Give Up-Can't Eat Any Longer?
Catracks replied to NurseMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't really given up a lot. Here is the list: Fast food and super high calorie or and/or nutritionally devoid food like white rice, white bread, flour tortillas, chips, french fries (except when I do oven fries), doughnuts, regular ice cream/malts/shakes, more than 1 bite of pastry/pies/cakes, or deep fried food. I usually skip hamburger because it doesn't sit well, but I can eat a little bit. Everything else goes down fine. I do not use any other oil except lard, butter, coconut or olive. Oils like corn, vegetable and especially Canola are BAD NEWS! I don't eat milk chocolate, but do eat at least 70% dark chocolate. It's good for you. I still drink diet soda, coffee and eat popcorn frequently. I should add the the foods I don't eat are because I won't, not can't. I can eat anything. I just don't waste my calorie allotment on crud. I rather have a steak than a doughnut anyway. -
You and I have been reading the same things. I now only eat olive and coconut oil. I've heard margarine and canola oil compared to synthetic motor oil. I also stay away from high processed foods. Hopefully I can repair at least some of the damage done or do little more damage.

My A1C came back dead normal (5.4) and my blood sugar was normal at the 6 month checkup. My PCP will never say it's been "resolved." He calls it "controlled." I disagree and so does the surgeon. My BP is 120/70 when I last checked a few months ago. My cholesterol is still sky high. It runs in my family. My mom is on statins and they don't work at all. I've read that statins are worse than having high cholesterol and simply having high cholesterol alone does NOT increase risk for stroke or heart disease. I don't even like taking Tylenol. I don't trust drugs because doctors do not truly know all the side effects. The known ones are bad enough.

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
Catracks replied to HOLLAND's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's what they told me. but I never had problems drinking. I just sipped constantly and knew that I had to drink two of those bottles and another 24 oz. bottle of either Crystal light, tea or watered down juice or a combination thereof. Measuring out ounce by ounce would have driven me nuts. We I got back to my room after surgery, I would take one lap around the floor, stop at my door and get some ice chips, repeat, repeat, repeat ... Then when they gave me fluids I would sip and walk constantly. I really didn't nap much if at all. The only thing that bugged me was the catheter (they took that out the next morning I think), the monitors and the IV. The pressure cuffs that massage your legs so you don't clot are almost pleasant. -
Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
Catracks replied to HOLLAND's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Surgery always has risks, but I fairly sailed through mine. I was so thrill to be getting it and looking forward to 3 whole weeks off works that my attitude was really good. That, I'm convinced, helps a lot. I went horseback riding right after my two week checkup and got all my Protein and fluids in from day one. That also makes a huge difference. I drank those Isopure clear fruit things. Not the best tasting, but you do what you gotta do. Period. -
Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
Catracks replied to HOLLAND's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Stephanie, Pros and cons Gastric Bypass Faster weight loss - Not necessarily. Higher complications - I would agree Reversible - Yes, but I've never heard of anyone getting it reversed, only revised. Less likely to regain - I don't believe this. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Slower weight loss - Not in my case Less complications - Would agree Not reversible - Agreed, but who would want to? Higher chance of regain _ I don't agree My surgeon really hasn't done a lot of sleeves for weight loss, only stomach cancer. I am the only sleever at the support group meetings. Most of them wish they had gotten the sleeve. My surgeon didn't think I could lose much weight without the malabsorbtion factor and fear of dumping. I am a little over 10 months in, 18 lbs from goal with a weight loss of 98 pounds. My SIL had RNY 10 years ago and lost weight yes, but she never lost much. She is still morbidly obese. I wanted to have a REAL stomach and not a pouch. I want to eat sugar on occasion. I want to drink a soda on occasion. I want my pyloric sphincter. Get the sleeve. -

Sleep Apnea Cured? How/when Did You Know?
Catracks replied to ArcusX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I panicked every time I tried to wear the thing. I never did wear it and sent it back without another sleep study. The pulmonologist demanded to know how I knew I didn't have sleep apnea anymore. I told her, "Because my face doesn't hit the keyboard at work anymore and my husband doesn't nudge me every ten seconds so I will breathe. I also stopped snoring. -
What Are You Eating Tomorrow?
Catracks replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 3 weeks I was just one week into full liquids (protein shakes, milk, yogurt). I can make a mean pumpkin or cranberry shake :-) I guess if you are eating purees at this point, mashed potatoes and gravy is fine. Mashing up a bit of sweet potatoes is fine too. Just don't have any that are mashed with brown sugar and too much butter. I never could stomach pureed meat, but mushing up turkey with some broth might work too. -

Tiny bits of everything. I am going to eat mostly turkey though. -
The difference in inches between sizes up in the 20s are far greater than the difference between a size 8 and a 6. It will start to happen fast and Goodwill will be your friend.

Happy Dance With New Clothes
Catracks replied to pbnjsandwich's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
87 pounds in 4.5 months? That's GREAT! Congratulations! I'm doing the happy dance now. I am now one size larger than my daughter. I think I scared her because she just 10 pounds over the last couple of months. Anyway, I went to my old favorite: Goodwill, and got 10 pairs of pants for $25! Sizes are different depending on the brand, but I wear either a 6, 8 or 9. I can't tell you how thrilling it is to go into Victoria Secret and get mediums or go into American Eagle and just grab something from the rack! YAYYYYYYYYYYYY for the sleeve! -
Mine is set to 750 calories, 90 grams of protein (yeah maybe a tad high), 22 grams of fat and 40 carbs I think. I usually manage around 70 grams of protein and go slightly over the fat by a few grams.

Fasting To Give Thanks And To Think Of Others
Catracks posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
January 11th will be my 1 year anniversary. Two weeks before that, on the 28th, I started my liquid diet in preparation for surgery. I took a day off for New Year's as I do a prime rib roast every year, but I think I lost 16 pounds in that week. I am so thankful for the gift I have been given. I was 5'1", 246 pounds with a BMI creeping towards 50. I wore a tight size 22 and 2x tops. I was just diagnosed as diabetic, had high blood pressure and sleep apnea so bad that I actually stopped breathing 6 times a minute. Yes, a gasp every 10 seconds. I was so depressed I played the sick card every time a social situation came up. Actually I was starting to feel really horribly sick. I didn't even want to walk down the street. My knees and feet hurt. Today I am 150 pounds and wear a size 6 or 8 or 9 depending on the brand. The diabetes is gone. The sleep apnea is gone. My BP is 120/60. I hike, bike, kayak and horseback ride. Yesterday I mounted a very tall horse and easily swung into the saddle. I didn't know I could do that. I think I am going to do a bit of a fast, but a high Protein one with the Protein shake recipes I got from Eggface, AKA Shelly. I will do a lot of the pumpkin and cranberry shakes I think. Now I don't expect to lose all that much, but I think I want to do a fast for both discipline and maybe even for a religious one. I want to give thanks to the one from all whom blessings flow. I want to remember the Father and remember the sacrifice Christ made for us. This country and the world is in terrible shape. I will take the money that I did not spend on food for myself and use it to buy food to put in in the box we have at church. There will be lots of food for Christmas, but people still need to eat after Christmas. I am going to spend the period between the 28th of December and the 11th of January in fasting and prayer. I just wanted to share. Yes, there are those of you who are not religious. I am not proselytizing. I should be though LOL. This is just my own testament. -
Height, Weight, And Size Poll
Catracks replied to LeaveItToSleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am similar to the both of you. I have been 100-120 in my adult life. I plan to stop at 130 which would probably put me in a size 4. If I decide to have a tummy tuck I suspect that I would lose at least 10 pounds of skin - 130 would in reality be more like 120 which is where I remember being comfortable. 110 would put me in a size 0 almost and I don't think I want to go there. I have a small boned, petite frame. -
Height, Weight, And Size Poll
Catracks replied to LeaveItToSleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 5'1" and started at 246 pound, size 22 pants, 2x tops. I am now 150 pounds, and my daughter just gave me some size 6 skinny jeans that she though ran a little large. They fit! I wear either medium or small tops, I'm still a little more busty than I'd like. Pants sizes are weird. In some I wear a 10, others an 8.
