    I did It !!!! I did it !!!!!

Congratulations...and welcome to the loser's bench!!! Your experience sounded much like mine (except for the Hoover Dam thing...I don't know that I would have been up for that!) :thumbup1: The pain pump Dr. Umbach uses was AWESOME! He was my surgeon as well (Mini-Me and I went there together and were sleeved on Jan 27). He is AWESOME! Keep us posted on your progress. Joann

    Is it just me?

I would have to agree with the hormonal PMS "thing". I was just talking to Mini-Me this afternoon about some things that were bothering me, and under normal circumstances, they wouldn't phase me at all. Gosh...I better stop PMSing or my kids and boyfriend are also going to join Mini-Me's husband and boys at the hotel!!! :drool5:

Congratulations on your sleeve date Anna! I am so excited for you and look forward to having another sleeve sister!!! Please keep us posted...and yes...the date will be here sooner than you think! Good Luck! Joann
  6. My surgeon used a 36, and it seems to be doing well for me.

    I'm gagging over here!

Hey Mini-Me ~ I ordered a sample packet of the unjury chicken broth when I got the chocolate Protein shake from them. I'll bring it into work tomorrow and we can try it. Also, I found another Protein shake at costco today -- 30 grams of protein in 12 oz...I'll bring one of those in for you to taste as well. I thought it was pretty good and needed some sort of protein since I used all my Unjury chocolae protein shake and my order isn't here yet. I'm sorry you are going through this...I'm fortunate at this point since I don't mind the Protein shakes and I am able to get 70+ grams of protein a day now. We'll talk tomorrow! Love ya sleeve sista!!!

    Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas?

I had my VSG surgery on 1/27/10 with Ms. Mini-Me, and I can only resonate what she said....Dr. Umbach was AWESOME! But, everyone needs to do their own research and find a surgeon that they themselves feel comfortable with. Dr. Umbach had 4 surgeries that day -- 3 VSG and 1 band. And, he has a ton of experience with gastric bypass and the deodondal switch, which are far more complicated, and which sometimes require similar procedures as VSG as prerequistes for the final bypass. I do not regret my decision to have Dr. Umbach do my surgery. He did nothing but make us feel comfortable, and took time to share with us the risks.

    Rumbling

That's good to know...I have the rumblings too and just have VSG on 1/27...I was hoping that they would eventually go away. Thanks for the info!

    Weird ?

Mini-Me ~ you are so funny! It is strange how some people have blue dye in their urine like you, some don't have hardly any at all (like me), and others have blue stools. ...especially for you and I...same surgeon...same procedure...same day...TOTALLY different smurfett response! :001_rolleyes:

    Sleeve scheduled for 1/27...

Hi Laura ~ welcome to VST! I am also getting sleeved on Jan 27....cannot wait! You will need to keep us posted on your progress.
  13. Hi Wendy! Congratulations on your surgery date...that's so exciting! A friend of mine (MINI-Me) and I will be going to Vegas next Monday for our surgery on Wednesday, January 27th...we are SO EXCITED.

As far as follow-up care, all docs are different. Our surgeon is asking for a 2 week, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year and yearly thereafter for follow-up. I will be going to my PCP here in Seattle for many of those visits -- my surgeon just wants labs and a report. Do you have a PCP? Is he willing to provide follow-up care?

As far as a support group, we do have found one in Edmonds through Pacific Nutrition and Wellness. They have a Gastric Sleeve Support group as well as a more general weight loss surgery support group. We are actually going tonight -- it is from 7-8:30 and it is free. I will let you know how it goes. It might be a bit of a drive for you, but if you want to join us in February...that would be awesome. They meet once a month.

  14. Bambi ~ I am so right there with you! I keep reading and re-reading and just am not so sure how I am going to get it all organized in my mind. One thing I did tonight thougth was to go and buy a journal so I can start documenting my journey as I started my 2 week pre-op diet today. I am going to write down the key information regarding supplements, Vitamins, Protein powder recommendations, etc., etc., etc. Then I am going to do the same in my journal the day before surgery -- putting into writing what the "plan" is that I am going to follow. Not sure how well this will work, but I'm hoping it does the trick! Anyways...good luck on the 27th! That is my surgery date as well!!!
  15. Wow TennJenn...that is absolutely FANTABULOUS!!!! I'm so happy for you! What an inspiration you are! :001_smile:

    Getting sleeved Friday- Alvarez

I absolutely love the "gas....ummmm..."issue"...that's a great way to put it out there that would make it be something no one asks you about! Good luck! BTW...I so appreciate this forum and the openness about issues...what a great support! :001_smile: Joann
  17. Hey ~ I'm another January 27th'er. I am traveling to Las Vegas with Mini-Me and we are having our surgeries same day; same doctor. We are going to be sleeved by Dr. Thomas Umbach. SO EXCITED! And...it's nice to "know" others who are starting their journey the same time - 3 for the 27th; 1 for the 26th. Also...I want to say that I very much appreciate all the feedback on this forum! I love to read about the successes, and like to have the reality view of the struggles that are there as well. ...to all of you VSG'ers...here's to ALL OF YOU!!! < wine toast > :hurray:

Will I be a "slow" loser?

Okay Ms. MINI-Me ~ This is your friend talking to you...keep you spirits up and work with the sleeve. I have every confidence that you will be very successful. We will be able to support each other and learn how best to work with our new tool in obtaining our goal of health, longevity and of course...the added bonus of looking AWESOME!!! I am looking forward to our trip together and getting sleeved on the same day...I appreciate your support and friendship!!! ...Here's to January 27th!!! < smiles >

    Inspired by Tiffykins...Day 21...what did I eat?

Where do you find the recipes? Are they on the myfitnesspal.com site? I am preparing for surgery on January 27 and want to get prepared! I appreciate any information you can share. Thanks a million...and a half!
  20. Hi Amy! Welcome to VSG! I am new as well...just have a couple of posts out here. I am also scheduled for my sleeve on January 27...getting really excited, and a bit nervous at the same time! That is awesome that you have such a supportive husband! My boyfriend is pretty supportive, but keeps coming back to "it's calories in vs. calories out"...not quite the kind of support I was looking for, but at the end of the day he realizes I'm serious when I say that I am doing this for me this time...it's about me...I love me!!! Keep me posted on your how you do with the pre-op preparations! BTW...I have a close friend who is also getting sleeved on the same day...our surgeries are one after the other. Pretty exciting to have her travel with me and be here for support after we get back to Seattle. Her mother-in-law is also traveling with us...she is an RN and wants to make sure we are doing okay. We are going to Las Vegas for our sleeves...Dr. Umbach will be doing the surgeries. Anyways....welcome!!! :crying:

I'm so excited for you MidwestGirl! January 4 is just a few days away!!! Please...keep us posted. A good friend and I are going to be sleeved on January 27. Yes...we are traveling together and having surgery the same day. We have a colleague who was sleeved in Feburary 2009 and has been very successful. She is already at goal (I believe she reached goal in September/October) and is absolutely LOVING LIFE!!! She has no regrets and is an awesome support. Again...I am SO EXCITED for you!
