Had my one year follow up today. (Actual date will be 10/13/2012). Down 155 lbs. Off all medications other than a few vitamins. I still find it amazing everyday that I now have the energy to work all day (Im an RN) then come home and push mow the yard, go to Zumba and still go out and do in the evenings. I was laying on the couch with my boyfriend the other night and he asked what I was doing. After thinking for a minute I realized I was playing with my rib. I have ribs!! Like real ones and a collar bone to match:) I have never been so happy that I did something in my life! This surgery saved my life!

Am I The Only One............
kykim replied to Missmarbe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are still swollen inside. It will get better. I slept in a recliner for the first 3 weeks to make it easier. Once swelling went down I have slept like a baby:) -
The psych eval is no big deal. They are just making sure that you are psychiatrically stable enough to realize the decision you are making. Basically do you understand that this is lifelong and will require changes. Are you sane enough to understand that you have to follow up and follow diet/vitamin requirments. Seriously dont worry about it.

New To The Forums And Vsl! Hi Ya'll :)
kykim replied to naterbug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved in October 2011. Basically did it by myself. You can do it but it will be more difficult. The first couple of weeks I didnt feel horrible but you take in so little that you dont have a lot of energy. The first couple of weeks I wondered what the heck I had done to myself. After 4 weeks I was thrilled. Now at 6 months out I am down 120 lbs. feel great and would do it again in a heartbeat. As far as the bathroom. It is the same as before for me. Bowel and bladder havent been affected other than a healthier diet makes me more "regular". I am a nurse so I was worried about that also. Hasnt been a big deal. Hardest part I found was eating at work. When you only have a short meal break it is difficult to get enough down properly while at work. Once you get on solids you will have to work really hard to make sure you get the proper nutrition in while you are working or you will feel like poop. I hope it goes well for you this surgery is life saving! -

I had my Gastric Sleeve Surgery on 10/13/2011 and so far have lost 102 pounds -
I had the same problem. I now carry a powerade zero everywhere I go. Also found premiere nutritions chocolate shake (30 grams of protein, 5 of carbs and 1.5 of fat) I think they are awesome. I couldnt do the protein powders they were just too gross. Even the unflavored Unjury, the smell made me so sick. Another thing I found was ProJoe mocha coffee drinks. They have 20 grams of protein and are fabulous. You can get them from bariatric resource center online and they will mail to your house. I can eat pretty much what I want now but I still have 2 shakes and a coffee a day to ensure I get my protein. Much easier now that I dont mind the taste. Hope this helps!

kykim replied to chsricha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way...I had my surgery a week before yours. I can now take what I consider almost "normal" drinks. Also I can get through about 6 ounces of fluid an hour if I really try. It will get better!!! -
Quick Question! (EXCITED AND NERVOUS)
kykim replied to Kendall Ann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey I had my surgery at Central Baptist with Dr Weiss on October 13. He is wonderful!!! -
I am 3 weeks out and have lost 36lbs. I have finally been upgraded to soft foods. My question is how much could/should I eat. When I ask the nutritionist she just says "not much" I do not want to get sick. I dont really feel like I get a full feeling but I am not taking in more than and ounce or two at a time of food or liquids. I still get my protein through drinks to be safe but I really would like to start having some regular food. Suggestions? What were you guys eating at this point?

I am a week ahead of you. When I had the same symptoms my surgeon said it was from drinking too fast or taking too big of a sip. The feeling has completely resolved now. Good luck!

I does and thank you very much!!

Too Much Gas!!!!!
kykim replied to smallgirlsxthree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved a day before you were. Have had the same problem. My MD said that the gas and diarrhea are normal. It was driving me crazy. I cut back on the milk and it seemed to ease some, but then had to find another way to get protein in. -
Preparation for Surgery and Post Surgery
kykim replied to mimi53's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest thing I can recommend is to find protein drinks for post surgery. I can not stand the whey protein drinks they make me ill. You have to get the protein in so this can be a big deal. Recommend Pro Joe coffee drinks I dont know how I made it with out them:) -
Post-op Soft foods???
kykim replied to bjstrans4mation's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 days out. First day was ice chips. Second through 5th were clear liquids. Eg water, crystal light, protein shots, decaf tea, lemonade, broth, sf popsicles. Now on full liquids can have sf instant breakfast, regular protein shakes, yogurt and milk smoothies, thin no chunk soups. Just have to watch the sugar and the carbs. Hope that helps... -
I was sleeved one week ago. At first did great getting my fluid in and some protein (while in the hospital). Since getting home I am having a huge problem getting either in. I wake up in the morning and look at the 7 pills and 4 liquid meds they want me to take and get nauseas. Then even thinking about drinking a protein shake (on full liquids) makes it even worse. I have not gotten sick but am really worried about not getting enough nutrition. I am down 17 lbs since the surgery. 7 of that was from yesterday. Everytime I call my surgeon they add on another med. I dont know if I can take that. I have no hunger at all. I dont feel bad other than my silly "pissy pouch". No pain etc. Suggestions?
-
Meds are the 6 Vitamins plus reglan, carafate, nystatin (developed thrush) and diflucan (again for thrush). I call my sleeve my pissy pouch because it has an attitude problem at times:) Yeah I drank alot pre surgery just cant do it.. When I call my surgeon they get mad that I am not taking in 20 gram of Protein at a scheduled breakfast/lunch/dinner and Snacks. I just cant get it down. Plus all the meds fill me up too full as is. I know this will pass. I just dont want to get myself sick due to poor nutrition.

I also was a self pay. I was sleeved last Thursday. The way the doctor here in KY explained it to me was that my insurance would not cover any cost with the original surgery, hospital stay etc. And if there were complications they would not cover it. They actually offered me a thing called BLIS insurance that for a fee would cover any complications. You may want to see if your doctor offers this. It gave me great peace of mind.

OK...I was sleeved in KY on 10/13/11 and also had a hiatel hernia repair and gallbladder removal. I am sore but it isnt really in my middle abdomen it is mostly upper abdomen and shoulders, some in my legs. I put on 14 lbs in the hosptial which I am assuming is Water weight from the 12 IV bags they ran through me in 2 days (I counted) and today I am down 2.5 lbs of that. What is worrying me is that I am having major trouble getting in my Protein, all of them make me nauseous. And that I counted today and I got in 60 oz if Fluid (low cal gatorade, water, tea-decaf) but only 50 calories. I am not hungry usually. I think that I am feeling full when I start feeling like I have heartburn. I just cant tell because I never feel hungry or full. Is any of this making sense? Suggestions?

m I think that part of the problem is that I am only allowed Clear Liquids now. Which puts out most of the decent tasting protein drinks/shakes. I have several that I like that I can start on Wed but not yet. I am drinking broth as much as I can. About 2 oz at a time. The protein shots that I have found are really bad. They make me nauseas with just the smell of them. I guess I am just worried about staying healthy until Wed. at that point my options broaden. How did you know you were full or hungry for that matter?
