Can My Iron Be Going Up While It Appears To Be Going Down?
log_lex replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havent been taking anything. I just got my labs back this week informing me that I needed to follow up with an iron study lab and possibly EGD and or colon check to make sure that I dont have any bleeding anywhere. I am hoping and praying that this is all lack of iron intake problem v/s anything else. I dont eat much meat so I feel pretty sure that its all lack of nutrition based. I am waiting on outcome of labs today and will follow up with doctor on Monday with resluts and directions. -
Can My Iron Be Going Up While It Appears To Be Going Down?
log_lex replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I and 1 1/2 years post sleeve and was sleeved 8/28/2010. I had my 1st work up after surgery with my PCP in January 2011. Everything was great. I am down 85 lbs and to my goal wt of 150. I just returned back to my PCP January 2012 for my annual checkup and I am now anemic. My Hgb is 9.1 & Hct is 31.5. All of my blood levels are low related to anemia. I went in today for an iron study work up. I am very concerned about this. Has anyone else had any problems with anemia after the sleeve??? If so, what did you do about it? Thanks for your help and advise. -
Would you sleeve again?

I am in agreement with Greg. This has by far been the easiest thing that I have ever done in my life. I had my sleeve 13 months ago and have lost about 80 lbs and it has been wonderful. I have still yet to have the first pain since surgery. I did have some nausea on the first night after surgery that lasted only 3-4 hours and that is the only problem that I have had with any of the process. Had I not know that I had the surgery, I would have never known it. I could have actually returned to work on the day after I returned from Mexico, but I had already taken off for the week without knowing what to expect. The only regret that I have is that I didn't do it 10 years ago!!!!! -
I was about to make the same suggestion. I went to Mexico and Dr. Aceves did my sleeve on August 24, 2010, it was WELL worth every dime that I spent to do this. The only thing that I would do differently if I had the opportunity to redo this is that I would do it about 5-7 years earlier. This has been by far the easiest thing that I have ever been through. One of my church friends had some of the same health problems that you have and he could no longer pass the health exam to drive his truck and both he and his wife both had the sleeve by Dr. Aceves and they recommened Dr. Aceves to me. He has not had any medical problems since his surgery and he is back on the road driving again. Good luck, I will be praying for you.

4 days post-op temp is 100.4 please set my mind at ease!!!!!!

Hi guys, Sleevesearch our diets that we were given in the hospital with our discharge papers were 10-10-10. 10 days clear, 10 days full and 10 days soft. I also confirmed with Dr. Aceves before leaving the hospital and he said yes to the 10-10-10. Alisha, In some of our paperwork from Dr. Aceves prior to surgery it tells you to have some propel water or either packets to mix with water just in case we feel like our blood sugar is dropping to low. It did say that sometimes it does this becasue we were use to consuming so many carbs and when we all of a sudden stop our carb intake totally our pancrease can't keep up with it and over produces in anticipation of the history of carbs. So try some propel water and that should help keep your blood sugar up. Hope this helps. -

Hey Krista, hope things are going better for you now. Please be careful and make sure that you follow the dietary directions. You definitely don't won't to mess up the incision and staples in your stomach. You have come too far now to go backwards. I am thinking of you, good luck. -
Hi Shrinking girl, glad to see your on here. Hope everything went great with you and your friend was back there to pick you up. I am very regular with BMs but I didnt go after surgery on Saturday until late Monday after noon before leaving on Tuesday and it was very firm. After that it was liquid in, liquid out basically. At the airport on Tues. I went so many times and have continued to do so at home. Hope everything works out good for you.

I am in the clear liquid stage but I'm just sipping every time I get up and walk around. If I waited until I was hungry I wouldnt ever sip. I'm still not getting in my 64oz yet but at least I'm sipping ALL day. Don't know anything else to do. -
I just got back home from surgery last night. We flew into San Diego and the driver picked us up there and brought us back there when it was time to fly back out. We did need spending money for our last meal which is about $25-$30 a person depending on what you eat and I also bought my meds there because I wasn't sure if I could get the specific medication here in the states that I needed and for 5 boxes of Nexium Mumps and 2 boxes of Supra doll pain meds it was about $150.00. Other than tiping dirver and buying a drink at the airport for traveling home thats all that I needed other than meds. Now if someone comes along with you they will have to buy their meals. My husband ate his meals at the hospital cafeteria and loved the food, plus it was very affordable. Nothing he ate was over $10 bucks and they were very large portions as well. He made 2 meals out of some of the meals. So it all depends on how much you want to take. They do take credit cards so that is helpful too. I hope this helps.
