Length of time off of work?
amvg85 replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am an RN and was going to take 3 weeks but decided 4 weeks was better suited for me. Although I found I became bored at 3 weeks & now cannot wait to return to work. I return Sunday April 7th. Excited to show off myself...no one has seen me since March 8th & I am down 22 lb & looking & feeling good! <<Ash>> Pre Bypass: 247.2 Goal: 140 -
Ok friends. I keep asking everyone what I can eat (people who haven't had the surgery) & am getting no where...so my sister says I should network with fellow bypass people. Here's my issue. I am week 2 on soft diet now & am trying to make semi normal food to satisfy me (mentally). I went to BJs & brought tilapia, flounder & Crab meat. Does anyone have any ideas for recipes I can make. You can only do so much with lemon & pepper. Any ideas would be helpful. <<Ash>> Pre Bypass: 247.2 Goal: 140

So I figured I'd post post-op bypass. Today is Day 4 Post-op. It went really well. I was in the hospital two nights. Day 1 & 2 I was so nauseated I needed lots of anti emetics! Day 1 I had dilaudid PCA for pain and I think I just pressed it for the fun I it. Thy took down the pain pump day 2 in hospital. I actually have been getting away with minimal Percocet & Tylenol ...but mainly only Tylenol. The gas was horrific. I think I am a little addicted to gas-x (maybe because I like the taste & can't have anything else). I am on liquids...have my intense nalgene (48oz) bottle & am drinking my fluids adequately. SF pops are my buddies and I've been drinking Water & crystal light. As well as my Protein drinks. It's so crazy how I can only take small sips...my stomach gets mad and I swear my back starts hurting. But so far I am sooo glad I did this. I did this for my health, my confidence, my wife & my future children! I am down 10 lb so far. I even did the Wii a bit today! <<Ash>> Pre Bypass: 247.2 Goal: 140

So I am in the home stretch. Today I will be drinking Mag Citrate & am entitled only liquids. My surgery time is 10 am so I need to be there for 8am...I wish I was the first case...but at least I am not stuck with the afternoon. I am in the process of washing all my comfy clothes for a stay in the hospital for 1-2 nights, depending on pain & what not. I am so incredibly excited & nervous...more excited though. So glad to get a second chance...here's to a new birthday...with less of me!

I am now the first case...7:30 is my surgery & I have to be there at 5:30 so nervous but excited!

I am having Gastric bypass on March 11. I haven't had to do any pre op diets, which I am kind of thankful do but it's kind of not so good because I don't get the strict rule of only liquids. I am extremely nervous, but more excited than ever! I took a month off of work (I am an RN and do a lot of manual labor) which will not only help me heal but give me time to focus on behavior modification & adding exercise to my daily routine. I feel like I am being granted a new life...fingers crossed for spectacular results!

Lapband removal/bypass insurance approval
amvg85 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I just found out today that my insurance approved my band removal (as one surgery) and then bypass 2 months later (my physician wants me to wait 6-8 weeks in order to give my stomach time to heal from scarred tissue). I am so excited...but so incredibly nervous. I wish I could just fast forward to March 11 when I get the bypass done! -
Lapband removal/bypass insurance approval
amvg85 replied to amvg85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only lost 30 lbs with the lap band (had it in for 1 year). I then developed massive Reflux (I actually had stopped taking nexium for 6 months...then it got so bad I was stuck drinking EAS protein drinks and my med was upped to Dexalant (a stronger more expensive drug for Reflex..which still doesn't cut it). My Dr. Thinks I have scarred tissue around the band area and wants to remove it to give me 6-8 weeks before bypass (without anything). Today I am having the band out...I am so scared to be without anything but I plan on eating healthy and working out (for this week it will be lots of walking)...My Dr seemed to think bypass is a better it for me (when they reroute your stomach you will not have Reflex at all) and He thinks I will be more successful in my weight loss journey....I am 250lb now and have approx 110 lbs to lose...I got this! -
So, my date the take my band out had been changed - it is now two weeks earlier and my bypass surgery is still the same date. Meaning I will be without anything for 2 months. This scares the heck out of me. I mean I feel like once it comes out in just going to gain...and then there is there is the uncertainty of bypass. My prime concern is holding myself accountable for my actions. In other words, really working on my willpower. Has anyone gone through this before? My surgeon feels it is necessary to do the procedure in two parts in order to give my stomach the ability to heal (scarring). It is being taken out because I massive reflux. The reason I am going to do bypass rather than VSG.

Hi all. I am a 27 year old nurse who lost 30 lbs with the lap band. I had the lap band on 12/19/11 and lost the 30 lbs from Dec until March. I had fills, but never seemed to have the right amount or I would completely neglect to follow my rules. This November I developed a bad bout of Reflux (which I had prior to the surgery and subsided up until this Nov). Since then I have established that my band did not slip, had all the fluid removed, started on a stronger PPI (Dexalant) and find drinking EAS & fluids make me not feel miserable. Today I met with my surgeon and he is recommending removing my band on 1/28/13 and then 6 weeks after revising me to bypass. I chose bypass because a) the way the system is rerouted I will not have reflux at all it is reversible whereas with the sleeve a part of the stomache is removed and will be gone forever. For some reason knowing it can be reversed if need be makes me feel better. My bypass is scheduled for 3/11/13. I am really nervous but excited at the same time. I am nervous to have my band taken out and be without anything for 6 weeks. I know I gain weight quickly and need to be really mindful in what I eat. I am excited to feel better though too - I just don't want to feel too good and eat way too much. I am hoping the bypass will go well and will lose this way and feel better. I know I can do this I just need to be completely present in what I am doing...losing weight.

Had A 3.5 Cc Fill A Month Ago And Am Still Feeling Hungry
amvg85 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Had a fill done a month ago (which was my first and kind of a traumatic experience). I followed what I was supposed to do but within a week I was feeling hungry rather quickly I now find that I can eat almost anything and it doesn't bother me. I know I am physiologiclly hungry but I think I am head hungry to and I don't bypass that feeling, I give in. I need to make an apt to go back to my surgeon but I really don't want to because I am staying at the weight I was last time I saw him...any ideas? I've lost 30 lbs and want to continue to go down not have had a pointless surgery.... -
I also have the same problem. I had my band placed in Dec of 11. I have lost 30 lbs and now seem to be staying around 244 and 247, which is so frustrating. And like you I can eat anything. I was hoping this band would be my "road block" which it has so far but the last month has been horrific. I feel hungry I eat and then I question if it was head hunger. How do you know the difference and if it is head hunger how do i bypass...strategies?!

Finally Have A Date April 5Th
amvg85 replied to GirlieGirl723's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery done in the am...got there around 6am and was discharged at noon...pain at incision site not bad at all but the gas sucked...I went for multiple walks to get rid of it...just keep walking! I felt so amazing after...I was surprised! I had it done Dec 19 and have lost 35 lbs...still 100 to go! Good luck! -
So, I decided I need to a little help in dropping this now extra 120 lb. I went for a Nutrition, Psych and Lap Band (Realize) consult. I thought it would go faster, but apparently my insurance sucks. They want me to prove I have been to the Dr 7 times in the past 2 years (consecutive months) where my weight was recorded and discussed weight. So, I hurt my back in May and went to Occupational Health (I got hurt on the job)-we descussed it but those people get weird about providing you with help. I am pretty sure I saw my Primary in June and we always talk about weight (he has known me since I was 6). Then in July I went to a Neurosurgeon, again, weighed, discussed how to improve my pain---exercise, lose weight---DUH! August...I think I went to my Primary, I have an apt with him on Monday to hash out the details of this. I am hoping he will be able to assist me in getting all the paperwork in place. Then, September is covered, because I went to the Bariatric Dr. Then I just need Oct, Nov, Dec and then maybe I can have the surgery in Dec or January. I am really excited...and scared! But, I am using this time to try and wrap my brain around eating better. Smaller portions, healthier food, not drinking fluids while I eat and eating more protein...I hope they approve it! I need help!
