Ok weird, Pickle Juice
Trayjay33 replied to closer400's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early on I was craving really acidic foods so I sucked on Lemons and Limes and drank Lemon juice with a little salt mixed in. Now I eat fruits quite a bit, usually berries which are pretty tart. The major acidic cravings did ease up eventually. -

Congratulations! It is so difficult sometimes when we lose weight and sometimes get that validation we are doing a good job from others yet cannot see it ourselves. Human beings have been predisposed to being visual creatures yet there is so much mentally that needs healing as well. I am happy to hear about the bra and the store it can come from. I had very big breast and can now go to a department store to get a bra. Prior to that it was just off the internet. I would love to take you up on that buddy offer if it still goes. -
You have probably worked this out already but my rule of thumb is that if I have to as if I can have something or think a lot about it or it's not in a category on my Doctors list it's not healthy. We all get cravings for things but remember that's when willpower has to kick in. Be creative, eat a ice pop instead. Tropical sugar free has nicer flavors and Outshine no sugar added once a day is ok. Stay encouraged to keep going by looking at how far you have come. Have a wonderful day.

I believe it's a long term process of listening to our bodies. Over time you figure out the cues and it will get easier to know that I don't need to eat anymore right now. I'm a little over six months out and I had 2 more pieces of shrimp on my plate. It should have been easy to eat it and not waste it but my body knew I did not need to have that. I started recognizing cues at about 2 months out. It took some vomiting and papaya enzymes and sliming and feeling uncomfortable to learn. It's still a learning process today almost 7 months out. But those sliming and vomiting episodes related to food are very few. Hope this finds you well.

What an awesome difference, I'm sure you feel great. Congratulations on your success!

I know you are feeling better but Papaya Enzymes are handy to have around. I picked up a bottle from the Pharmacy when I read they help with digestion and tried it. It does help when I overeat and on stuck days. I don't use it much anymore but it's good to have around. Just check that they don't interact with anything you are taking by asking your Physician if you want.

Completely devastated and disappointed
Trayjay33 replied to greeneyes22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi sorry you had to hear that from your surgeon that was just unnecessary. MFP is pretty good and I think your diet is great overall. It's similar to what I eat actually. But we all go through what's going on moments. Sometimes our body needs more variety or it gets in a pattern of holding on to the weight. At Least that's what I'm telling myself to stay positive. ???? The Lentil soup might have a lot of Protein but I'm not sure about the carb content, might be high. Also, the same with vegetable soup high carbs. As far as fruits I had to switch up from Raspberries and Blueberries to Strawberries and small plums because my body wasn't digesting them properly after a while. I try to stay away from apples most of the time...high in sugar. Another option for fruit is kiwi and/or a 1/2 small blood orange but again in moderation. For yogurt I like the Yoplait 100 and choboni 100. For vegetables just not starchy vegetables corn or potatoes. Also if you are exercising, try getting in adequate calories if possible. It will turn around soon. -

Fashion Challenged Please Help!
Trayjay33 replied to Annek2014's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I swallowed my pride and went in to be measured for a new bra at Nordstrom after finding my bras no longer fit properly. I am very big chested and deflated so that's what made it also hard. The woman was very professional, courteous and helpful. I'm sure you will have a good experience. -
Fashion Challenged Please Help!
Trayjay33 replied to Annek2014's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi AnneK2014, I think one of the joys women have is shopping. I'm not in to wearing heals or dresses that's just not me. I'm not a tomboy just not in to that...just me. I think as you get more comfortable in your own "skin" you'll find what works for you. It sounds like your allowed to dress fairly casual for work. Old navy is good as mentioned but also American Eagle, Gap, H&M and nordstrom rack if you catch a good sale. This can give you more options. They are online or maybe in your area but some only offer certain items online. If you go to the online stores you can see the trends, hi-lo tops, lace shirts, pastel colors, etc. But, it's more about what you like. Treat yourself to what you think looks good in my opinion. I find high waisted jeans fit me better than low rise jeans as I lose weight. I also buy a couple 3/4 sleeve tees in different colors and button down shirts. For shoes boat shoes like Sperry's are comfy and they last. Congrats on your journey, hope this helps. -
Hot Flashes and Nausea
Trayjay33 replied to leanora27801's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In viewing your question it seems more like Hypoglycemic episodes than dumping syndrome in my opinion. I don't know if you are going long periods between meals but at least try to drink a protein shake...some of it. Or eat a yogurt. Take a anti nausea medication before hand. I am 5 months post op and still deal with nausea. My Doctor prescribed Zofran sublingual so it just melts on my tongue. I also have Phenergan a stronger pill for nausea if I need it. I don't know if you are a diabetic but either way please confer with Doctor regarding your symptoms if you have not done so already. Best wishes. -

I feel more optimistic about meeting a potential partner now that I have had weight loss surgery. Not because of losing weight but because at the heavier size I was looking for someone to validate who I was as a person because I had such insecurity. I did not have good experiences with online dating nor elsewhere. This was probably because the first thing that they saw was my heavier weight and the low self image I thought of myself. This leads people to believe they can treat someone any way they want. I do want a relationship that's good and healthy as I'm heading towards the end of childbearing age. I think about what if I meet a man that just want me for my body now that I've had surgery and that makes me apprehensive with dating again so soon. Right now I am finding contentment with me. I have to live with her the rest of my life and I love her so much now. I have been able to not focus on just me but helping others and not being so self absorbed. It makes a difference.

I don't take a separate iron supplement because I have a specific plan with my Hematologist but I took Bariatric Advantage chewable iron tablet for a bit and it was decent tasting in my opinion. They have different doses so you might want to consider asking your Doctor which one is best for you if interested.

Hi anaxila, It's a learning process with the gastric bypass but you will survive it. My Fitness Pal is pretty diverse as I am Jamaican and find many of my cultural foods in the database. I am sure you will be able to find Soups, fish and vegetables that you will be able to eat in small quantities. Using the Internet to look up ingredients may also help and you could ask that they hold certain ingredients when possible. You can't go wrong with protein and low carb. I'm sure it will be fun, have a good trip.

7 months out at still can't eat tuna salad or chicken salad! You?
Trayjay33 replied to Lissapmkn1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm just wondering are you making the Chicken/Tuna salad home made? Is it the additives that you think bother you...is it too dry? I'm heading towards 5 months out and there are still certain texture foods that I can't tolerate. For example, I can eat eggs in broth but I cannot digest them well cooked any other way. They give me foamies. Just a thought. -
3 months postop need to talk
Trayjay33 replied to hopeful paki's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The fact that you know what you are doing is helpful towards your weight loss. This will help you be accountable and make changes. In the beginning weeks of my surgery I was testing the limits a bit and I tried low carb pasta and it didn't bother me. But, I remembered why I started this journey and that even though my body can tolerate something it doesn't mean it's good for me. There's no one to blame but me if I don't achieve my weight loss goal. I hope you make the most of the chance you have been given and go back to basics. Try using My Fitness Pal to log your foods and use any support you can find. Hang your old clothes up and pictures of where you want to be for motivation. Just my opinion. ???? -
One year sugerversary

You look wonderful! Congratulations on your weight loss anniversary and progress. Thank you for posting your success picture, so encouraging. -
Hi, I've had to have iron infusions for the last few years due to my bodies inability to tolerate other forms of iron. I notice a difference with the infusion by about week number two but everyone is different. It sounds like you went through an awful experience and as far as dirty looks from your boss...as long as you have medical leave through Federal or State you should be covered. Human resources should be contacted if you think you are being discriminated against based on medical issues. I know the feeling of severe iron deficiency anemia and it's not fun. As a Nurse I rely on my ability to think quick and multitask and when my iron is low I get forgetful, fatigued, overly emotional, crave ice and have night sweats and chills as well. My plan with my Hematologist is see her every four months in office and call prior if I'm starting to feel like my iron is getting low and she will order blood work. My Surgeon just told me last week 50% of gastric bypass patients do not absorb iron even if they supplement it religiously everyday. It's nothing you have done, the job will find a replacement if anything happened to you. Take care of yourself also. ☺️
