I had my surgery last Tuesday and I feel like I made a huge mistake.
Trayjay33 replied to Naomi H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that it may be necessary to have an laparoscopic to open abdominal surgery if necessary. I was ok with it because I was more concerned about my overall health. I would rather the Doctor safely do a open RNY instead of a sloppy laparoscopic RNY. Also, in the day of interrogation of personal medical records I think there is a thin line. The trust relationship between patient and Doctor may be damaged and who knows what the future holds. I don't wonder anymore about the shortage of medical professionals at times. The liability in this day and age is incredible. -
@@hellohealthy I think in my experience I did notice further out I started to eat more at certain times. I especially notice that a few days prior to my menstrual cycle and a few days during ovulation I can eat more. These are also times that I experience weight loss stalls. It's definitely hormonal where mine is concerned. It helps to track my weight loss pattern, food intake, menstruation and physical activity. The overall pattern helped me see what was going on. I don't get so upset at myself now and see that the days I'm eating more are related to my cycle. Good luck

I walked as much as tolerated around the house for the first few weeks after surgery but I was fatigued and not feeling up to par for a while. It took a good two months post-op to start walking outside my house. I think everyone is different. I would say listen to your body and find a good medium. Don't over do it but don't be sedentary either. The weight will come off.

It happened to me as well. I know everything cannot be attributed to surgery but I couldn't count that as coincidence. I live in the northeast and my mouth was so painful during the past Winter. I cannot have more than 2 ice pops at a time or it's painful. I mentioned it my Dentist and they more thought it was reflux related and wearing on the enamel. I would be interested in what others have to say.

Good point. I thought about that too, it did not seem to increase my cravings for sugar but I found myself eating two a day because it taste so good. I will not reorder right now because I was definitely snacking more but it was a nice treat to have. -
My prep from lap band to sleeve
Trayjay33 replied to ryebread's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@ryebread I definitely don't think you should be hard on yourself about the weight. You did well with the lap band which doesn't work for many. I am included in that bunch. I had similar symptoms to yours and also had revision. So far it's been an overall positive experience. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. -

Lap Band & port removed 4 days ago with post op picture
Trayjay33 replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lol, I'm a Nurse as well. I guess when I was going through it I was more involved not now. I used to get wrapped up in overthinking what ifs myself but not so much now. I guess my advice would be not everyone is a textbook case. Trust your Doctors and continue to be excited about the wonderful chance of having RNY. -
Are you losing inches? Sometimes it takes a while for the scale to catch up. Don't give up yet, especially so soon out.

Hmm...I don't remember where it was. I am on a prescription meds for reflux now. Things have been ok with that. What makes you read up so much on ulcers? -

Trayjay33 replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Everyone's body is different, I don't know why I developed the ulcer but it's fine now. Please don't over think it. The symptoms were nausea, vomiting with a small amount of blood and epigastric pain. No prescription antacid pre-op. Pain was more noticeable when I drank something. That was about 3-4 weeks post-op. Vitamins were slowly introduced because that's what my Doctor recommended. Now I take mini caltrate, but other people take other kinds of calcium so check with your Doctor. Gummy vitamins are not recommended early on after surgery. There are many chewable multivitamins out there I use centrum. Re: constipation, it's getting easier to manage as I learn my body. You will learn a bowel regime that works for you. People have used Miralax, Colace etc. discussing those options with your MD especially with the diverticulosis history would be good. -

Overall, RNY has been positive! With anything there can be setbacks. I developed a ulcer early out but that resolved. I had some issues with fatigue which hopefully is gone for good. The usual issues you probably see on the forums such as constipation, taking vitamins daily and watching nutrition intake is ongoing at this point. I am 10 months out so I am still learning my body. I am not in maintenance phase yet. As far as weight loss, it's been good. I'm about 20 pounds from my goal weight. I don't know what your food vices are but I cannot tolerate any high sugary foods which is a big deal for me. I did have the revision & removal at once but I think it's great that your surgery date is coming up. At least you will be healed like you said and ready for the bypass. BTW my joint pain, high blood pressure and pre-diabetes is gone so it's been good. You will have to experience it to totally understand what I mean but I feel if people need RNY it's a great option. -

Trayjay33 replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@Dream4tc insurance companies sometimes make things difficult when one would think our health would be the priority. I am another revisionist (lol). Even though I was in the usual pain post-op I had a relief from having that band removed that I can't describe. It was like a weight removed from my intestines even though the band was empty for a while. I ended up staying in revision surgery longer because of multiple adhesions. Regardless of what I have been through with the RNY, it is worth it no regrets. I had the lap band in 2012 lost about 30 pounds and suffered with vomiting and pain up until my revision late last year. Congrats on your upcoming revision. -
Tired, what did you do that helped you?
Trayjay33 replied to Trayjay33's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi James I just wanted to say thanks for the info, I have been taking the right kind of B12 and also incorporating some Feosol now and then and I have noticed a difference. I hope this keeps up but I just wanted to say I appreciate the advice. -
I agree with you both, it's definitely different now in regards to the enjoyment of eating. In someways I wish I could enjoy food now but in other ways it's good to have the control that I didn't have before surgery. I guess every bit of success has sacrifice. ????

6 months out and still feeling like crap n
Trayjay33 replied to Padraigm613's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you have had a difficult course since your RNY. I too have had some bumps in the road but they seem like nothing compared to what you describe. I just want to say it's early yet and to be as positive as you can. I'm not sure if you have a Gastroenterologist but I would suggest finding a good one for recommendations. Regarding the stall, I'm thinking that if you could see the weight loss you would think this situation would be more tolerable. Stalls happen regardless and for various reasons. I doubt you are done losing weight at only 6 months out. Hopefully you will be able to track the foods that do not bother your intestinal system as much. If they have you on medication to help suppress the bile hopefully those will be effective. I hope things turn around for you soon. Just sending support your way. -

Why do I never get replies I this app / site maybe I'm different ?
Trayjay33 replied to tia92's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@tia92 I don't always get replies to my questions as well. Also, there are times I offer what I think is support to people or ask a question and they do not respond. I especially think if someone starts a post they should make a effort to respond initially to the people who reply. But not everyone does this so the next time if I remember I don't share my opinion with them because it may not have been wanted. I think it also helps to post in member specific areas. I.e. Pre-op for pre-op questions and post-op for those concerns. Either way it's not that serious, life is bigger than that I think. -

@@misstvb, I agree the scale is a form of encouragement. What I noticed for me is once in a while if I have a higher carb day for some reason the scale starts moving. Months is a long time but please stay encouraged the scale will move.
