    Reactive hypoglycemia

I cannot tolerate foods that are high in carbs and I have to eat frequent small meals to combat the reactive hypoglycemia. It helps keep me in check but it's not a good feeling if I eat something high in carbs. I get really shaky and tired. If I try to counter the reactive hypoglycemia by eating more carbs it makes things worse. I've learned to plan my meals ahead if possible.

    It's official 100 Lost

Hi and congratulations. I had that discussion with my surgeon last week. I am still losing quite a bit of weight and about where I want to be. She said as long as I feel good, am in a healthy BMI range and there are not concerns that I am not getting enough food that it's fine. We may keep losing weight up to 12-18 months post-op. If it becomes a problem with malnutrition there are options, appetite stimulants and other supplements. So far I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing and enjoy the process as much as I can. A Nutritionist is an option if needed I was told as well.
  3. Hi, I had revision from lap band to RNY in October of 2014. I hated the band and so far RNY is way better. I hope all goes well with your revision as well. I'm sure it will be much better than the band.
  4. Lol, I tried to delete a post and couldn't. I think there's a big secret to it. You look great, congratulations and keep up the good work.
  5. I and hoping and praying for a speedy recovery for you, as well as for surgery to be one of the best decisions you have ever made. This too shall pass, be encouraged.
  6. Yeah, stop calling. I did that and it doesn't help. BCBS is one of easier ones to work with. Hoping for the best for you. I know waiting is hard.

    Band to Bypass Fears

@@HELLCATT81, it's not a coincidence that so many people have to have revision surgeries. I understand what you are saying and the most I lost was about 30 pounds with the band including the pre-op diet. All I could tolerate eventually was slider foods and when I had breads or anything solid I would vomit. With fills I would vomit. I had delayed gastric emptying and pain that was discounted by my lap band surgeon. I wanted to make it work so it took a while to decide on RNY. Enough was enough when I would just drink water or juice at work and vomit intensely. This suffering lasted a year and half. My new surgeon who did the RNY said "you gave it the good old try" it didn't work for you. He let me know it wasn't my fault, I needed to hear that. Just those words made me want to not only be successful at this for God, me but also my surgical team. I will be a year post-op next week and even though it takes work, determination, emotional changes, etc. I wouldn't change a thing. The forums are filled with people who have maintained their weight loss as well. Go get em and congratulations on your RNY.

    What did your breast's do?

Just a side note, I had my first mammogram done as a baseline. I was expecting it to be painful it wasn't bad. I don't know if it's because of all the saggy fatty tissue or what but I walked out of there like that was it? So if you have excess saggy fatty breast tissue it might make mammograms less uncomfortable.

Walking up stairs losing my breathe

Since this is a change in condition you should notify your surgeons office just to be cautious. Feel better soon.
  10. Looking back at 3 months out my diet was very limited. I had various Greek yogurts, chef salads with light dressings usually a Italian or vinaigrette, also shrimp with steamed vegetables. As far as chicken I could only tolerate hibachi chicken strips or chicken wings at the time. I also ate a small amount of berries on some days. Good luck

    PCP office visit

Thank you for the responses. She did not ask my permission but I guess she has concerns. I appreciate her concern...but she should trust that I have a good surgical team. She could see all my notes and appointments from the practice. They are part of the same hospital umbrella. I have that access as well but not as broad. I've known her for years and maybe this is a drastic change to her. She is very conservative in her management of many medical issues but I have no idea where she's going with this. I will just follow-up as scheduled next Wednesday with my surgeon. It just made me feel like I was doing something wrong at the time...probably reading too much into it.
  12. I went to see my primary Doctor today because I wasn't feeling well. Flu like symptoms and wanted her to listen to my lungs. Anyway, it turned out ok overall but she said she was worried I was still losing so much weight at almost a year out and would be calling my Surgeon to discuss her concern. They are part of the same hospital system and I know she has a right to do that but I feel a little awkward that she would decide to do that. I'm within a healthy BMI, I have my one year f/u next week which I told her about. Am I making too much out of this? Has anyone ever had this happen?

    Iron infusions?

Good question, my surgeon told me despite iron supplements about 50% of post-op people require iron infusions. Don't worry about it, he was just informing you of the possibility.
  14. I am wondering what unique foods people have found themselves eating after surgery. I had someone offer me okra chips today and I was skeptical to try them but they are actually delicious! What foods are you now eating or have tried that you would not have before surgery?

    New foods tried after surgery...

I cannot tolerate breads but this week I purchased mission low carb tortilla wraps. It has 19 carbs 13 dietary fiber so actually 6 carbs per serving. It's a 120 calories and 5grams of protein per serving. I can make a wrap with deli meat for lunch or dinner and digest it well. I'm a year out in a few weeks so I'm adding more variety to my diet.

    When do I stop losing?

Good question, if anyone has answers I'll listen. I'm starting to get really thin and usually the week before my lady cycle I can eat a lot 1200-1300 calories other than that my stomach doesn't hold much. I can't tolerate many carbs. I never thought I would say this but I'm worried about losing too much weight. I'm almost a year out and 135 pounds.
  17. Now that I'm further out from surgery I can say it's based on individual preferences. If someone is trustworthy and they will offer support then I would tell them. If not it's none of their business. I had someone who was initially "happy" for me then say I look like I wasn't eating. She felt differently when I became thinner than her. I'm more mindful of who I tell now.

Thanks for the recipe, looks delicious!

    New foods tried after surgery...

I really like chili as a meal option now. I have had Wendy's chili and it's ok. I really don't like the beans and the greasiness so today I made a homemade chili from a recipe I found online. I used turkey meat and made it spicy but it's actually pretty good.
  20. No anemia? Any blood work done post op?

    What questions do you ask?

I have my one year appointment coming up next month and I would like some input as well. But some questions I have so far are: 1. What should I expect my final weight to be? 2. When would I stop losing weight, how does the weight loss eventually slow down. 3. Do most people in this practice maintain their weight loss and do you have any advice on how to do this? 4. Are there any changes to my medication or diet plan that are recommended? 5. Saggy skin issues any suggestion? 6. When should I be seen again? That's all I have so far.

Beautiful picture and great progress. Keep up the good work!

    New foods tried after surgery...

I loved chocolate prior to surgery the closest I have gotten post op is Premier Chocolate shake but it's not the same. I'm drawn to vanilla flavoring now which I guess is a good thing because I was actually a chocolate addict. I would literally eat an entire entermans chocolate cake in two days by myself. Stress eating is shameful. Thank God for this procedure.
