Congrats on the date, Rocko! And thanks for the link to the article! -
What were your incisions closed with?
faithmd replied to faithmd's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
And I'm so glad to hear your demand was met. I'd prefer the glue, but will take sutures over staples. (Steri-strips would be okay, too.) -
Plastic surgery before possible Pregnancy?
faithmd replied to hopefull loser's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
It will grow with you, but have even less elasticity than it did before (will strech thinner, if that makes sense). You'd probably be much more likely to develop some good-sized "stretch marks" as well. IMHO, you'd be better off to wait. You might want to ask a plastic surgeon who specializes in surgery after weight loss that question, they will know for certain. -
The official answer is to let them fall off on their own, if the loosen up, you can trim them with a pair of scissors. The dried blood is normal (as long as it isn't increasing), they are incisions under there, after all. I know several folks have taken them off themselves, but having been in medicine for a little while, you really are better letting them mostly fall off versus plling them off and taking the chance on disturbing that delicate newly healing wound bed.

I hear ya! But in this case it was (sadly) Judge Hatchett. I usually like her, but she's getting very Maury-like...

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Amazingly inspirational!!!! -
What peeves me? DUMB A$$ people who have five or six kids by five or six different men and then go on television to find out the father of one of them, then when the guy who's been paying support turns out not to be the father, she goes off screaming and crying. Or she stands there all obstinate and says the test must be wrong! Idiots! Myself, for watching this drivel, even if it is only on in the background for noise. I could turn on a music channel or something.

Can I smoke after surgery / Why YES I CAN!!
faithmd replied to jubjub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah neveragain, I miss it too! Been a looong time, but I just can't see doing it anymore. Not worth the risks associated...Forget about the possibility of going to jail (never happen to me? Famous last words...), have you seen how f-ing STUPID Snoop Dogg looks and sounds these days? Can't tell me it doesn't have long term effects... But the occasional one... Man, it's been a long time, but I like my job... -
What a great price!!! I was going to buy a Bullet, but the Back To Basics drink mixer has about 100 watts more power than the Bullet, but I am going to have to order from walmart.com. In the end if I can find a good sale price on a bullet, I may do better to just buy one of those. The Bullet has a couple of cups, doesn't it? The Back To Basics mixer only has one May I ask where you found that great price (was it a big chain store)?

Brandy, you are always such a great help to me, thank you soooo much! I saw the Nurse Practitioner for my cardiologist today and she's going to write me a letter clearing me for surgery, I can pick it up tomorrow! Woohoo!!!

Can I smoke after surgery / Why YES I CAN!!

I'm not thinking jubjub is talking about cigarettes...He's smoking something much more, ummmm, calming... -
Yep, fake sugars can trigger a craving, that's why I have given them up in favor of Stevia, it's not manufactured, it's a natural plant derivative. I do notice that if I have a "diet" something or other (flavored with NutraSweet or Splenda) I seem to want more sweets for a few hours after that. Now that I've broken the refined simple carb craving, I don't really find myself craving that, either. I brought a pizza home for DH and I two night ago and I LOVED to eat the crust dipped in ranch dressing. But this time, I just scraped off the toppings (chicken and onion) and had no real desire to eat the crust. I could hardly believe it!

Did your shoe size change?
faithmd replied to chocolate_snaps's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kyethra, I'm guessing you likely wonuldn't be able to go that low, after all, it was puberty and a growth spurt that caused that size change. Though I could be totally wrong! (And kind of hope I am, I'd love to be in a 9 again.) -
Excellent explanation, waterlily. It does make a HUGE difference at times when measuring for baking. And frankly, if you are meauring volume (loke chopped fruits or cherrios, or something like that, it's a better idea to use the metal cup-type for our purposes as it's harder to "cheat." If you've got that big Pyrex liquid measurer, you can let it get a little over the one cup mark and not really notice it. But with the other one, once it's full, it's full. But as Waterlily also said, everyone is different and I'm not sure you have to be so exact in measuring your food intake.

Oh dang, that's funny!!!!!!!!!

I was on metoprolol (Lopressor) for my V-Tach. I gained 17 lbs on it in five months and even at 100mg twice a day I wasn't controlled. I finally lit a fire under the butt of my electrophysiologist and got ablated. But I understand for some rhythms, that's not going to help. Now Im dealing with something Atrial (upper chambers of the heart) in nature. May be PSVT, who knows? I've got an appointment today at 1:30pm to find out...

Until you are comfortable, some have said they were okay in a couple of days. But you may have to do some different positioning.

Kat, try soy crisps, they're pretty good and have much lower carbs that potato chips and soy Protein, too! You'll find them in the "Natural Foods" section of your grocery store. SRKS72: Try using ONLY stevia to sweeten your drinks/foods with (it is a plant leaf derived sweetener you can find it at health food stores and places like Trader Joes and Whole Foods), it helped break my sugar craving. Google Stevia and Google artificial sweeteners. You'll find lots of info there about why we still crave sugary stuff even when we use Splenda and Nutrasweet. I will very occasionally have a "diet" beverage with Splenda or nutrasweet, but now I make jugs of decaf iced tea and sweeten it with Stevia and I really don't have a problem saying no to cakes or candies. And I'm well over 350lbs and TRULY loved my sweets and carbs. I don't even crave them anymore.

Did your shoe size change?
faithmd replied to chocolate_snaps's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I hope lots vote, too! I'd love to think I could possibly actually wear something smaller than a US women's 11W. -
I was ablated for Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) at 371lbs, had no problems at all (it was this past December). Years ago I had a sinus arrhythmia (irregular heart rhythm). I had a stress test and an ECHO and they said it was fine, that that was just the way I was. I was fine and they didn't have to do a thing for me. Until your doctor does and EKG and talks with you about how you are feeling, perhaps does some labs to make sure your electrolytes are okay, no one can possibly speculate about what may mor may not be going on. But come back and let us know, will ya?

I knew I saw another shoe thread around here, so I used the good old search function and found a few: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/question-feet-t31564.html?t=31564 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/shrinking-feet-t25228.html?t=25228 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/shrinking-feet-t24522.html?t=24522 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/lets-talk-feet-t17225.html?t=17225 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/shoesize-t15670.html?t=15670 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/shoe-size-shrinking-t13220.html?t=13220 Great idea to make it a poll! -

faithmd replied to lexysmommy's topic in Insurance & Financing
Wishing you the best of luck! You might want to go check out the Yahoo group: bandstersinsurance There is a lot of information there as well. -
Thanks Brandy! I just hope he's placed enough bands for me to feel comfortable with him doing it. For me that number will have to be about 50.
