  1. Welcome!!! Good luck on your journey, this is a great place to seek out advice and answers. Dr. Spivak seems to be a fairly popular choice as a surgeon. I did a search on his name in thread titles only and came up with two pages worth of threads with his name in the title. The SEarc function is located near the top of the page, click on advanced, then use the pull-down menu to choose Thread titles. Here's a few of what I got: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31192 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23486 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=30334 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=30437 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23902 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=25030 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16728 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14780

    Ivory soap for gardening ?

I never said it was But if one does not own a pellet gun, or cannot buy one in their area, Jerry Baker is then next best weapon. Of course a .45 would work well, too (might leave a bit of a mess, though)

    Protein shakes

I'm not a Canadian, but I used he search function and found quite a few threads about this same question. I'm going to list a few of them that had quite a few posts on each thread, I would espect that somewhere in these you could find a good one that you can get in Canada. I know a few of the posters are in Australia, so it's not all US listings, I hope this helps and good luck finding one you like. I think everyone's tastes are very different and what I like, you may not and vice versa: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=33663 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31578 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=28682 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31937 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31915 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=28161 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=27577 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=30463

    Can't edit anymore!!

I hear ya, though occasionally I have been known to plant in the second or third week of May, then we invariably get a nasty hard frost. You'd think I would have learned by now... I live near A2, but also have a place near Evart (between Cadillac and Clare) and it is amazing how 170 miles can make such a difference in the growing seasons. I cannot plant a thing up there and have any success until at least the first week of June it seems.

    Ivory soap for gardening ?

Check out www.jerrybaker.com He's my favorite gardener (followed closely by Alan Titchmarsh) and he's very into doing things with as few caustic chemicals as possible. I've got a couple of his books and they are WONDERFUL.

How are things going, Teach? Hope all is well and sunny in your area of the state today. It's sunny and was really windy down here near A2.

    Can't edit anymore!!

I PM'd Alex, as he had asked us to do in one of the other threads about glitches (you may have missed it), and he PM'd me back today that they hope to have this particular glitch fixed by tomorrow. It makes me a little nutty, too Sorry, I couldn't resist, and at least they are blue smilies!

    pregnancy with the lap band

Here's a few of the other threads on here that ask a similar or same question. I hope this helps! You can find more by using the Search button on the light teal toolbar near the top of the page, click on advanced search then use the down arrow and select titles only. I put in pregnant, ran the search, then came back and put in pregnancy and got more. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=32336 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=25195 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31836 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=30587 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=27233 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=27929 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=25220 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20993 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=17230 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=4409 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=29285 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=27096 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=24578 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=21968 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22533 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19944 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19402 <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    Port Huron Lap Banders??

I've found it at Meijer's and Hiller's and Kroger. I know Hiller's has a huge selection of flavors. At Kroger it's in the health food section's refrigerated case. At Meijer it's in one of the end cases that has the fresh juices and such. I would also suspect that Whole Foods and Trader Joe's carries it.

    Port Huron Lap Banders??

And you might want to check out some Kefir (like a smoothie)

    Port Huron Lap Banders??

In that case, the Yoplait Custard Style I know has no chunks in it, and I *think* the whipped Yoplait is also fleck-free.
  14. I wish I could offer more help, but here's a link to a poll thread about how often folks PB. Hope this helps a little: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=17176

    Port Huron Lap Banders??

I can't think of any yogurt that you can eat on clears. That's the whole meaning of "clear" as being something you can see through. You can't see through yogurt. But if you are talking full liquids, then I could see you being able to eat yogurt. Though again if you are on full liquids, then would yogurt be a liquid? I dunno. Sounds like a call to the nutritionist is on order tomorrow morning. Will you please let us know what you find out? The only yogurt I can think of that doesn't have any pieces of fruit (even tiny ones) is the Yoplait Custard style. But it's not available in sugar free. Though this is not the time for weight loss as much as it is for healing (or so they say). Once you can have something with little flecks in it, there are some great yogurt smoothies out there, or you might want to try Kefir.

    Getting enough water?

I've been using fitday for a couple of months now and I can't figure out where to track fluid intake. Unless I add it as a food taken in (there is a category for water). Is that how you do it? I tried sparkpeople and I just didn't like the format, though they do have a fluid tracker.

  20. Wendell Edwards has about the greatest LapBand 101 and 102 I've seen yet, they address almost all of the pre-op and research questions I've had about the band itself. I saw it on his sig over at OH, but I know he posts here, too.

    Three weeks to go!!

I have to say that I have done all of the things Kat is suggesting for you to do. And as a result I've lost...well you can see my ticker, I forget what # it is now. And that is PRE-OP. I haven't been banded yet. I wanted to prepare myself for all the changes I will have to make. I figure if I make them now, it may be easier later. It hasn't been that difficult to do any of these things, I think it's because I don't HAVE to right now, it's my choice to do it, and it makes me feel really good to have made some healthy choices that have made a big difference. I've been using baby/toddler utensils for my meals when I'm at home and it has helped immensely. That and setting down my fork or spoon between bites. I can't believe I could taste any food the way I would take bite after bite before. I still have to do the house cleaning and try the "test tube" clear liquid Protein to decide which one I like, but other than that, I'm fairly set. I've got my heating pads, Gas-X, liquid Tylenol, chewable Vitamins, baby food that I like (for the mushy stage), blender, etc. Good luck and welcome! Breasts (women only)

I agree about the sensation thing. If I cannot be guaranteed that I will not lose one iota of sensation in my nipples, then I'll have it done. But since there is no way to guarantee that, I can't see myself doing it.

    Food Poll

chocolate covered potato chips or chocolate covered pretzels are really good! And I'm not a huge chocolate, nor a huge potato chip, nor a big pretzel fan. But I'd love some chips and salsa and guac right about now. I just wish there were some yummy low fat, low carb chips that tasted good out there. I can only do so much soy... Doritos and sour cream.... Or some fresh baked pretzels, soft not crunchy, with some cheese and some mustard.
