  1. Juli, WOW! I'm almost crying here, I'm a FAT girl who started about where you did and there really is a chance, a possibility that I could one day look similar to you. It will be a LOT of hard work, sweat, tears and committment, but it is POSSIBLE. You are an inspiration, and a wonderful woman. Thank you for sharing your journey. Faith

    Emo Kids...

    Urban Dictionary: emo kid
  3. faithmd

    Emo Kids...

They are what Derick described: Emo Kids... A group of white, mostly middle-class well-off kids who find imperfections in there life and create a ridiculous, depressing melodrama around each one. They often take anti-depressants, even though the majority don't need them. Pretty much an entire subculture of people (usually angsty teens) with a fake personality. The concept of Emo is actually a vicious cycle that never ends, to the utter failing of humanity, and it goes something like this: 1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie) 2. Guy finds out, so he listens to emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands". 3. Now an emo guy, he meets Emo chick and they start dating, talking about how their well-off suburban lifestyles are terrible and depressing (lie) 4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him, saying "It's not you, it's me." (lie) as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team. 5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues. It is also: A genre of "softcore" punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who don't smile, has high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer, yes the whole scarf thing pisses me off for some reason in case you didn't notice!), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5ths of the face at an angle. This is the sad truth of the emo lifestyle/music, and now that I look at how pathetic it really is, maybe the emos DO have something to cry about!
  4. Good luck, Neal! Please let us know how your journey goes, it is very helpful for those of us just starting out.
  5. Cookielover, I am so sorry you are going through this right now. It must be very difficult, but so many here have hit the nail squarely on the head when they point out these are her issues, not yours. She's obviosuly got some serious problems and is trying to project them on you. Take care and as Ghost said, we can't replace her, but we're here for you.

    Don't save your skinny jeans...

Ooooooo, DAMN! I just realized my hunting clothes I bought last year (that I'll need next week) will be toooo big on me, though. They were a little loose then, doggone it. I don't have the $$ to go buy new scent-lock stuff and I can't see buying $200+ worth of stuff that I won't be able to wear next year (hopefully). Guess I'll have to hunt in jeans and thermals and stay in my blind with the heater running.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

    Don't save your skinny jeans...

Laura, thank you for posting. I though I was the only one who could lose a large amount of weight and not lose size. People ask me how much I've lost (because it is showing in my face) and when I say about 74lbs, I know they must think I'm nuts. Perhaps I was wearing things I shouldn't have as well. I do notice that the sweater I bought one year ago to go to a friend's B-day party that was tight and really quite short on me actually fits this year (yep, I wore it on her birthday again-didn't realize that until this very moment...wow!). The sad part is that it is a 3X.
  8. Yup, Tylenol (acetominophen) only. The ibuprofen (Motrin) can increase the risk of ulcers and so soon after surgery, bleeding. I know orthopedic surgeons who won't allow it to be used after surgery for the bleeding risk. Anyhoos, walk, walk, walk, and then walk some more. Get a heating pad and put it on your shoulder, or chest, or whatever is hurting. Gas-X strips are helpful for some people.

    Don't save your skinny jeans...

What a great thread. I'm sure it is frustrating as heck! I've sworn I'm not going to buy any clothes until I'm 100lbs down. Luckily I haven't really had much of a size change yet. I was in a 26/28 initially and now can wear some 24's I had in the closet. But for the most part, almost 75lbs later, the 26's still fit. It's pretty damned frustrating, actually. Hopefully when I hit the hundie mark, I'll be in at least a 22. Great job to all those above me who have lost weight and changed sizes, what an amazing feeling!

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Oh FFS, I am the one who took this discussion out of RnR and posted all the comments in the thread Losingjusme posted that Tish had posted to. I did not do that to be snippy or rude or mean-spirited. I wanted to be certain that everyone had all of the comments to read in one place. I wasn't attacking anyone personally, I was merely trying (apparently unsuccessfully) to explain the points of view that sometimes folks do not understand naming the months, and some folks don't really like having the pages stretched with large sigs. That's all. And for me personally, I do like the larger sigs (as I've said), but perhaps only once per page. I enjoy reading people's weight history and I like seeing the photos of peoples' progress. Like Wheetsin and others I do generally keep my more "snide" comments to RnR. I try not to be rude in other threads. Occasionally I'll admit, I will make comments to threads that have asked for the 300th time why lapband vs bypass or how to get the ticker in your sig or what PB means. There is a FAQ forum, many questions are answered there. But I know we are all in this together. I've said that time and again, and I mean it. Regardless of what is said here in RnR, we're here for each other. This is not a process to go through alone, and who better to understand it that someone else who has been there, done that, got the T-shirt?

Hey, I'm going to take the other side, I am and have always been a "crammer." I wait for the last minute and then cram for the exam. 9 times out of 10 I'd get an A for it. But I'd also never ask my instructor for the freaking handouts, I'd find someone in my class and ask them.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Oh for the love of everything Holy, I NEVER meant to hurt anyone's feelings. This is RnR, this is where things are discussed with the gloves off. I am truly sorry this has upset you, but if this is going to continue to upset you, then perhaps right now isn't the best time to post in RnR. I know the time near and after surgery was especially difficult for me, I was very sensitive. I stayed out of here and didn't post much on the board, I read a lot, though. Yes, I actually am a VERY positive person. I think they called me a positron in the last "RahRah" class we had at work. But being positive does not mean censuring my posts in a place that is meant for honesty. What I posted in your thread is below, I did say we are all in this together, and that my purpose was to put it all in one place so folks could easily read it. I twisted nothing. I did not sling any arrows. And of course we are all here to support you, we are here to support each other. We can agree to disagree, can't we? I think you have made some good posts here and am glad you've joined LBT. There is a learning curve to any Board like this one, I'm still learning it a year later. I look forward to seeing you posting around the board and reading and replying to your responses as I hope you look forward to seeing me, too. I took the liberty of collecting all the comments on the other thread regarding either large sigs or the month names. As you can see, what started as a comment (didn't appear to be an attack to me, but a comment) about the November name then evolved to many of us who have been around a while saying we just don't get naming the month groups. And it seems this group isn't the November Nymphs yet anyway. I think the Energized Elevens is great and would allow the men in your group to feel included. I realize if you are a bit newer you don't realize what the large sparkly things do to a page. It does make it hard to read pages if your monitor res is set so that you have to scroll. There also were comments made about how pretty some of the artwork you guys are choosing is. I truly do fail to see how this was all a huge attack. And yes, you are welcome to your opinion as well. BTW, it started yesterday at 6:45pm (not even 24 hrs ago), not a few days ago. I too wish you all luck! We are really all in this together. I just had to come and post the entire conversation (up to when Tish made this post) for those of you who haven't seen it yet so that you can decide for yourselves. I am looking forward to your comments. I guess my post here would be more of a tirade than most of the comments above.

    Why is there no name???

And just to make note, the thread Tish is mentioning is in the Rants and Raves section, which is defined here: "LBT Rants and Raves *** Off-Topic DEBATE AREA *** Want debate? Get it here. Gripe, complain, moan, fight, rant and rave. Enter at your own risk!"

    Why is there no name???

#519 losingjusme ok, in all seriousness .... WTH is with the "November Nymphs" ???? ----------- #520 klpdbl I was wondering the same thing....... ----------- #522 travelgirl I don't understand why any of the months feel the need to name themselves.....I mean there isn't anything wrong with it, but I just don't get it... ----------- #523 Tishbite2 You guys are making me feel like an r-tard. ----------- #524 losingjusme sorry ... i just dont get why someone would want to be called a Nymph(o) ..????? how does that relate to the band? ----------- #526 marjon9 Tishbite, a "nymph" is defined as "a beautiful maiden" A "nympho" is defined as "A female who is affected with nymphomania; a nymphomaniac." They are not the same and I think the name of your group makes perfect sense for the lapband and I like the artwork as well. This thread is a little odd because people are blowing of steam in a way that includes a bit of meanness. Try not to take it personally. It is not meant to be. ----------- #531 Tishbite2 The person who came up with the name was looking at it from the perspective of Greek mythology; as in a beautiful, female divinity often depicting fertility and the creative aspects of nature. A nymph is also an insect in the chrysalis stage. Both definitions are fitting in relation to the band in that we, as "November Nymphs," are beautiful, strong women in the cocoon phase of development. With the aid of this tool, we will be able to develop into the goddess-like creatures that we are on the inside. The sexual connotation is derived from the depiction of mythological nymphs as having complete control over their sexual nature and fornicating with men at their own will. This is contrary to the historical view of women lacking sexual tendencies and urges, and merely being at the disposal of men's carnal needs. In modern times, the idea of "woman as sexual-being" has been further perverted and deemed as negative. Hence the term "nymphomaniac" was coined in order to describe a person, usually female, as hyper-sexual. It plays into the societal stigma of a sexual woman as evil and wrong, and the chaste woman as ideal and virtuous. If people on this board have the misconception that I am some sort of over-sexed slut due to a monthly group name, then so be it. I don't have the power to sway someone's opinion, especially via the Internet. I've already been shunned by society for my physical appearance, so what if a few people who are simply black and white patterns on a computer screen ostracize me as well. ----------- #534 Tishbite2 Thanks for the support, Mark! ----------- #535 travelgirl Well, I certainly didn't mean to offend, and I could care less about what the name IS, I just don't get the whole idea of naming ourselves, like we're part of some sort of club. Please, don't anyone take it personally. It is rants and raves, after all, right? Oh, but I do have to add, I DO love the artwork, though. ----------- #537 Denise822 We never had any kind of name other than Dec bansters. ----------- #541 Wheetsin You know, I don't even notice the naming. If ppl like it, they like it. What does bug me just a bit is that people have to put huge ginormous sparkly things, pictures, text, etc. advertising their month's name in their signatures. It's just as bad as when people used to put 30 limes of text, so literally a whole page OR MORE is just their signature, and none of it matters. Is anyone's signature so important that it needs to be that prominent? Why does this bother me? Because I run at 1680 resolution, meaning an awful lot of stuff should fit on my screen, but I STILL have to scroll down to see more than part of one reply because of all the clutter in the signature. I mean - really - as if we can't see things unless they're like 20 inches high. (It's not just the month names, it's the people names, avatars, etc. that people do in these obnoxious ways. Come on. The glitter stuff isn't even pretty, it's the online equivalent of blue eyeshadow with pink pearl lipstick.) It's the same thing when you're on a board that doesn't limit avatar size, and someone wants to use a 500x500 avatar picture, so you're scrolling along just fine and all of a sudden you have to go way to the right just to see the person's message ( = you're not getting a reply from a lot of ppl). From a usability perspective, this is like nails on a chalkboard. ---------- #543 faithmd Again, I LOVE YOU, WHEETSIN!!!!! I don't mind people making big sigs, I think some of them are really cool, and I really like the ones that have pics that show family or their progress. But I like seeing them once on a page, not five times. That having been said, I get tired of scrolling and scrolling and scrolling down to get to the next post. I mean, once or twice in a thread to allow a large sig is fine, but if you are replying multiple times to the same page, then uncheck the box for "Show your signature" please. When I had a larger sig than I do now, I would try to always remember to uncheck that box if I was posting more than once per page. ---------- #544 losingjusme i was going to post about the huge pics/glittery stuff a few days ago then looked at my sig. i had my weights, my BMIs, blog addy, my exercise quote, my ticker and my 'BR dedication ... which was a lot and was viewed by some, i'm sure, as over the top... so, i removed some. now i can vent ... i dunno what it is (hormones maybe?) but every little thing lately is just getting on my nerves. the glittery stuff has always been obnoxious, but to combine it with huge ass fonts and other pics is just over the top... and i know nymph is a Greek mythological character/female, but i guess whenever i see it, i see nymph-o ... and yes, that is just me, but this is RnR and the name combined with the pics/glittery crap just threw me over the edge. its not like i went into November 07's threads and trashed them (although i wanted to soooo much *see above hormone comment*) i guess that's why we have the ignore feature ... when i see stuff that I think is crap, "ignore"... which is kind of disheartening because i am sure i'm missing out on some people's valid points/posts, but i just cant take the over the top stuff ... </rant> ----------- #545 laurend Yeah, certain stuff like that gives me the twitches. ----------- #558 Tishbite2 I have resized my signature as so many of you have passive-aggressively suggested. All you had to do was tell me, "Your signature is too large." and I would have gladly changed it. I am very aware that this is a "rant and rave" section and that things aren't supposed to be taken personally. That is a little difficult to do when so many people are saying things that are specific only to you. If someone has a problem with me, please call me out on it directly. Please don't insult my intelligence and belittle me with underhanded comments. After reading this, if you decide that you must "ignore" me, all I can say is good luck with your weight loss. I truly wish success for you. ----------- #561 losingjusme please take this in the nicest way possible, cause its not meant to be hurtful - at all... it's not all about you though... you arent the only one who have/had a huge sig ... really. ----------- I took the liberty of collecting all the comments on the other thread regarding either large sigs or the month names. As you can see, what started as a comment (didn't appear to be an attack to me, but a comment) about the November name then evolved to many of us who have been around a while saying we just don't get naming the month groups. I hate it when people post just to post.....

Tish, come on, it REALLY isn't all about you! Really. Do not take it personally, as was said over and over, yours was NOT the largest nor most annoying sig we've seen. Some time ago (long before you were here) the size of the sigs was changed, allowing for a much smaller sig than what we even see now. Yes, they were once much BIGGER. Hard to believe, huh? They were limited to a smaller size because it was cumbersome and annoying to have to wait for them to load and to scroll off the page to read that text of the threads because once a screen gets stretched, the rest of that page of the thread is stretched. For an example, look at the Before and After Pix thread. You are also not the first group to name your month, so again, please don't take it personally. There are Shrinking Violets (April) and May Flowers and many others. I am a June 2007 bandster and though I know we have a name, I'll be damned if I can remember what it is. But that's me. Some people find comfort and good support by being a part of a group with a strong identity.
