With any surgery there is a chance of clots. The heparin is to help prevent clots that could form post surgery (any surgery that is). I think your doctor is taking precautions.

Nails breaking/splitting

Probably would not hurt to take with a meal or with an acidic drink. Just to cover your bases. Other than that it may take awhile for your nails to grow strong again. -
Nails breaking/splitting

The caltrate is it calcium carbonate or calcium citrate? You need an acidic environment to take calcium carbonate (which is alkaline). You would have to take it right after a meal or with acidic orange juice. Calcium citrate is acidic and therefore you could take it on its own. Just a thought Lily -

You should ask the specialist if you will not be able to have surgery. Since they will have a better idea of what is going on. Hope all is well and you will get to have your surgery.

Going A Little Crazy
AutumnLily replied to albertogunz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thats a tough one. Sometimes people are just dead set against the surgery. If only she could understand that reducing your weight and possibly reversing your diabetes (or at least bringing to a very managable place) will increase your life span. Staying obese especially with diabetes shortens your life. I would hope that she understands that you are trying what ever you need to do to make yourself healthier. I really have no true suggestions as to swinging someones views. What I have learned in life is that you can not change another persons views (most of the time). I truly would sit down and get all questions aired. You could search out the answers to help her form an informed decision about the sleeve surgery. Other than that one tiny suggestion I have nothing. -
They are awesome! I too like #8 for a Christmas card. What a bunch of adorable pups you have. Thank you for sharing.

How can it be possible that no one knows the definitive answer to this?
AutumnLily replied to armstrong1003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Total carbs include fibre which is not digested in your system. Net carbs is total carbs minus the fibre carbs. Some believe a carb is a carb is a carb and others follow the belief that if its not digested or have a caloric count then it should not be counted. Bottome line is you will have to make your mind up on which you want to follow. -

Congratulations on starting your journey to a healthy new you. Keep us updated on your progress. -
I find it interesting that when a person is overweight everyone that is not feels they own you. Meaning that they have a say in how you should run your life. I have gotten fed up by all the comments of "are you really going to eat that", "wow your eating a salad, are you on a diet?" so on and so on... I just want to take out a club and beat some sense into them. Maybe you should ask them why they feel they have any right to put down your judgement on your life and that they have NO business making any claims about it. Tell them to come and give thier opinions on your life when their life is absolutely perfect (which will be never). Until then they should keep their ignorant remarks to themselves. Sorry this got me super ticked off and wanting to fly out to smack some sense into your ignorant co-workers.

Scared with Questions
AutumnLily replied to cryingangel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Crying Angel, Bluecross will most likely not cover the surgery but you should check out your provinces health plan. Which province are you in? Alberta covers RNY and I think the lap band but not sleeve. The waiting list is years just to see a doctor here. If you can afford I would suggest paying out of pocket. I am going to Mexico to have surgery with Dr. Aceves where I will be paying approx $9000, but it will be worth it in the end. I would suggest you find a doctor you feel comfortable with and have done your research on be it in Canada, US or even Mexico. You would be best off to quit smoking now. Smoking for one is bad for your health but it also is bad for healing which with this proceedure you want to heal fast. Have you checked out different therapies? Champex (I have heard great stories about this), Cold laser acupuncture (I have heard mixed reviews as it depends on where you get it and if it will work). In the end though you will have to be the one who wants to quit. I do hope that you find a way to kick the habit. Coverage of the surgery I hear you can claim on your taxes (health portion) and also if you live in AB you can claim a portion on your health care. Do your research and make sure this is what you want to do. I know I went through a long battle with myself deciding if this was the right thing to do. I have my surgery date for Feb 2011 and I am excited to start my journey. -
Anyone taken an appetite suppressant post op?
AutumnLily replied to mp8btpc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that you should go back on the PPI and see if the "hunger pains" go away or subside. MIght just be what you will need for awhile longer.
