    Phase three food ideas

Is your stage 3 mushies? I have been eating cottage cheese and sometimes I put a couple of teaspoons of mashed potato to give it a little umpf. Canned tuna, chicken, refried black Beans, cheese, chili (homemade), and eggs. I am still on Protein shakes but down to one a day. Then Soups broths and creamed ones, plus yoghurt. Is this what you were looking for?

    NEED SOME HELP ASAP!!!!

Dehydration can cause nausea. Have you tried warm liquids? I know they helped me in the begining to relax my tummy.I would suggest to get in your fluids now and not worry about the other stuff as much.
  4. For your very same reason I chose to not tell my family until after the surgery, as they would have talked me out of it. I researched this surgery for a long time. I spent an entire year eating healthy and working out 5 days a week for an hour. You know how much weight I lost 30 lbs. I hit a stall at month 6 and then nothing I worked to get the weight to move. I kept up the better food choices and exercise for another 6 months. Until I finally got discouraged. I put that 30 lbs back on plus another 20 in as little as 3 months. I knew then that I needed the surgery. It was more to curb my appetite because when I worked out I would come home ravenous. I would eat healthy foods but large amounts of it. I could not get past the hunger. Now I have no hunger (as of yet). Have a smaller capacity to take in food. I will succeed this time. I know your family mean well but this has to be your decision. Do try the eating healthy and exercising first and then you can decide what is right for you. Just an FYI I felt safe in Mexicali when I went to Dr. Aceves. I walked around outside by myself with no worries.

    Sleeved on March 7th, 2011

The surgery acts on the stomach and not the brain. You will have to get past the cravings that you are having (for now). I crave all kinds of foods but know that I can not have them just yet. I will someday have a smaller portion of things that I crave, but it will be controlled. The first month is the hardest I hear. I am still in it and was thankful for every stage that I moved up on. I am officially at mushies and finally not feeling depraved. Things will get better.

    Flood of "Whatcha eating"

Can it have its own section? And then pin the days of the week? Just a suggestion

    Scared to eat

If your pill is solid can you crush it and mix it with a little water? How long are you on full liquids? I would not worry now about solids as you will not be on them for awhile (or at least that is how my doc has set it). Work on what you can do now and allow the swelling to go down and the staple line to heal.
  8. I am doing great. Getting in all my protein and fluids with no problem. I have hit the 3rd week stall and hope it does not last too long. Your surgery is coming up soon! How are you doing?

    Stalled

Pretty much everyone stalls at the 3rd or 4th week. Just the body trying to figure out what is going on. What I tend to do for figuring out my eating is I measure 4 oz of really mushy food and slowly eat. When I get to about 1 oz left I take a bit wait a couple of mins take another bit wait another couple of mins and that helps with the delay of your stomach letting you know its full.

    Protein Ideas PLEASE!

Cottage cheese is really high in protein. Add some salt and pepper to liven it up or just a couple of tsp of mashed potato's and it tastes awesome. Have you looked at vegan type foods? I like to eat this stuff called veggie ground round. Its a root plant that takes on the flavour of meat and has protien in it. We get this in Canada and would be pretty sure you would get it in the states too. I would google food with protien and check them out that way.

Is it possible post-op to have a Vegan Diet

Have you tried buying from a local butcher who gets his/her meats from local farmers? You would avoid the "mass" produced meats. You can look into soy products. I eat meat but sometimes I substitue in veggie ground round which has plenty of protein. Nuts, legumes, beans all sorts of "non-meat" sources have protein.

    BMI 39.9, what to do?

Losing some weight pre-surgery is to shrink the liver to make the operation easier. I would contact your health care provider and ask about the coverage.

    Help need advice

You should have your doctor prescribe a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) Like nexium or prilosec. I am on one and it makes a world of difference.

    What can happen if....

I am already trying to get my protein from my food. And when I am needing a boost I will have a shake. I am on mushies right now so to help I am taking one shake a day. When I am on solid food I will try to get all my protein from food and only if I am low will I supplement with a shake. Even so I could eat half a cup of cottage cheese and get 15g of protein. Just make sure you are getting the minimum of 60 - 70 g of protein.
