Tmi- on liquid pre-op
AutumnLily replied to SPI Tortuga's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just have to add that if you put liquids in liquids are going to come out. Just like solids in solids out (unless you have food poisioning then my whole rhyme is off). -
mmm cheese sounds heavenly!

Any Suggestions Would Be Appreciated
AutumnLily replied to Anniep5029's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The itching did drive me crazy for awhile and then one day it stopped. I made sure I did not scratch at them because I wanted them to heal. It will go away but for now it is just a fact of life. -
UGH I think I'm eating too much & too often.. :(
AutumnLily replied to Starry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also found that my weight loss increased when I increased my Water intake. I am getting in my required Proteins, low carbs, Vitamins and such and I am able to drink 96oz of water a day. My weight loss has really picked up since I did this. Oh and I get all of my protien from food sources now. I save the Protein drinks for days that I may be rushed and miss a meal. You are doing a great job so far! -
who has had a leak or stricture?

You did not give a spot to vote if you did not have a complication. I am in that part of the vote. Hope your endoscopy goes well and you do not have a complication. -

Congratulations on you success! Keep up the great work and you will be at goal in now time. -
I have not noticed anyone saying that. But if I did I would let them speak their mind and then I would move on. I try not allow peoples odd/different behaviours to annoy me. I think life is too short to allow it so I just ignore and move on. Not sure if this is what you were wanting as a answer.

GI is short for gastrointestinal which is the stomach and intestine. Upper GI they will be looking at the stomach usually with an xray and using a contrast media like barium swallow to see the outline of the inside of the stomach. OD keep us posted on your journey!

Has someone commented on your weight loss?
AutumnLily replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have no idea how I would react as I have only had one person say "you have lost some weight". No one else has noticed that I am 70 lbs lighter. Making me wonder do I look different or not! Oh well keep on keepin on working my sleeve. I notice a difference so that is a positive. -
No honeymoon period....I can eat more than WAY MORE than I thought....BLAH!!!
AutumnLily replied to Hip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long have you been sleeved? Some people are slower losers than others and I feel for you. Hopefully you will get to the goal you would like. You may have a larger sleeve in circumference and also length and that is why you can eat more. Here is hoping your stall breaks and you start losing again. -
Feeling really depressed!!! =*(
AutumnLily replied to trinhle905's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein Drink is basically a Fluid and will go right through and not really give you much restriction. I would suggest try to eat 1 egg with some bacon or sausage. They are a bit more dense and will stay in your stomach longer. Plus you will feel the restriction. I would save the granola bar for a snack at a later time. String cheese and beef jerky are awesome Snacks. lunch you had shpards pie which is mashed potatoes (slider food) and ground beef in juices (not as dense of a protein but still a good protien). I think if your Breakfast is more substantial in the density of food you will be fine to have these foods for lunch. dinner you are having a tamale I would assume that it is more of a slider food due to the ground masa. Personally I would stay away from most of the slider/higher carb foods until you are at maintenence. Soup with some meat sounds like the soup goes right through the stomach and how much meat is in the soup? Will it be dense enough to hold you all night till the morning? Your stomach has not stretched. You have not had more dense foods that will give you the restriction you tummy needs. Also are you on a PPI? Sometimes the acid produced will mimic the sensation of hunger and you really are not. If you are allowed more dense foods (meat) I would start to include them in every meal. Keep the carbs and slider foods to a minimum for now. And make sure you are getting in your water. I have to say that when I upped my water intake for the day I saw a marked increase in my weekly weight loss. Now this does not mean substitute food for water. Its a fine balancing act to get in your water and also your protein. Hope this is what you are looking for. -
VOTING HAS STARTED! Dr. Kim's weight loss surgery give away
AutumnLily replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It states on Dr Kims web page that people can vote once per day up until June 11. So we will need to have some reminder for people to keep on voting and give Vicky her chance. -
coconut and celery were culprits for formin a beozar. They are stringy and form into balls in the stomach and are hard to digest. I would think if the celery was cut up into small pieces then there would not be any long strings. The coconut I would try a very small amount but not fresh. Maybe finely ground stuff that you can bake with. It is something to watch out for.

Just started soft foods...is this normal?
AutumnLily replied to Bryn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have finally gotten used to the idea they NO I do not have to finish what I put on my plate. If my body (tummy) says thats it no more then I throw out what is left and feel satisfied that I do have control now. It is weird somedays you can get more in than others. -
pulmonary Embolism?
AutumnLily replied to JennsNewLife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have any problems but there is the risk for any surgery to have blood clots. I think your doctor would be able to explain your risks due to a previous clot better. Hope you find your answer as I know I provided no information. -

Would you change doctors?
AutumnLily replied to Writergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too would research other doctors and try to get a feeling for what they are like. Maybe ask for referrals and see if the referrals will give you insight into what the doctor's "personality" is like. I have been to horrible doctors in the past with no compassion for anything and I always came out feeling bad after an appointment. Then one day I realized hey I have the choice and I will choose the appropriate doctor for me. I checked around and went with word of mouth about my personal PCP. I always feel like I am getting the highest quality of treatment now. Always if you have a choice choose a doctor by their credentials and bedside manner. -
Recovery Question
AutumnLily replied to HelloKitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Mexico alone and yes I was in the hospital there for 3 days (that is the amount of time they keep you). If I had gone home I would have been fine. When I did get home I was able to handle making my own meals. I however did get help with lifting things to make sure I did not hurt myself. So Yes you will be fine at home while your hubby is at work and he can check on your through out the day. -
I increase my water for the day if I have something that is higher in salt. Just need a way to flush it out or you will retain the water.

Some ???'s for those of you sleeved in Mexico...
AutumnLily replied to MissJ482's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I did the trip by myself. I arrived in San Diego and waited for the driver to pick me up (they have a time you should try to arrive by). I felt completely safe when I was at the hotel for the first night there and also at the hospital post surgery in Mexicali. I went for walks outside by myself and felt completely safe. Payment you put a 500$ deposit and then pay the rest of the amount when you get there. Total was 8750$ and was worth every penny that was spent. The hospital was clean the staff were polite and most of the staff I had no problems communicating with. I also had a phrase list handy incase there were any mis communication. You arrive in SanDiego you are driven to Mexicali to the hospital to do blood and urine tests and get chest xrays. You will receive a package of information and forms to fill out. This is the time you will pay the remainder of themoney unless you did so before hand. When you are done there the driver will take you to a hotel where you will check in for the night. You are allowed to have any food and drinks you want before 10pm. You are provided an antibiotic to take and if you want a pill to relax you. Off to bed you go the driver will pick you up at 7am to go to the hospital. Dr. Aceves will have a meeting with you and any other patients getting surgery that day and you will be checked into the hospital (you will have your own room). Then you are notified if you are to be first for surgery (I was so I had to get changed into my gown right away). Off to surgery where you meet with the OR staff and the anesthesiologist. They explained what was going to happen and next thing you remember is waking up. You will spend 3 days in the hospital and the doctors will check in on you every day several times a day. You will have leak tests done and on the morning of day 3 you are checked out and the driver will take you back to San Diego to the airport. Try to book your flights close to the time that the driver is dropping you off to avoid having to wait. Unless you spend a night or two in San Diego then that is up to you. My experience with Dr Aceves and his team were very positive. I felt completely safe at all times and would recommend them to anyone that would like the information. Do your research to make yourself feel comfortable about your decision. -

Getting Sleeved and Nervous
AutumnLily replied to ejsmith's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good to be practicing now your behaviours for post op. If you forget to eat slow your tummy will remind you with this uncomfortable feeling and you may have to get sick to help feel better. There is a lot of great information on the site. If you are in the main forums area and do your search from there you should find previous posts on your questions. If not post a question and one of the veteran sleevers will be willing to share their input. Welcome to the group. -
Getting sick is just a reminder that your stomach has all the control and soon your brain will realize and remember to eat slower all the time. Even if it is super yummy food. Hope you are feeling well soon.
