    Weight Gaining!!! Help!!!

eating too much, and not moving enough?

    I'm Beginning To Get Worried!

8 days after my surgery i was still on liquids!. I think 8 days out is much too early for food like that. If you did not get any fills during surgery( i didnt), then you will not have much restriction yet, your body is still healing from the surgery. Just because you can consume food at this point, doesnt mean you should, have to be very careful.
  3. Just curious if your surgeon had you see a psychiatrist as part of the pre-op guidelines? I had to see one (i was not selfpay, Ins. paid 100%), and im glad i did. He talked at length about the weight loss process, and how your body and mind will be struggling everyday. I am 7 months out, and i still get down in the dumps when i am having a tough week, or month, when the scale just wont budge. It does however get easier, this will be the best investment you have ever made, good luck!
  4. Was going to say the same thing...6 days post op and having eggs seems a bit fast, but i know all Dr's are different with their guidelines. You might have some acid reflux from the eggs not being able to pass properly. I would call your Doc.

How Often Do You Get Stuck?

Do u mean stuck, and then have to throw it up?, or stuck and you have pain for a few mins until it passes?...I have never thrown up in the 7 months ive been banded, but i do get a stuck episode every now and then, and have to do some walking around and bend my back to get the food to pass. Not a good feeling, but kind of hard not to experience once in a while. If you feel you get stuck too often, might be too tight? Or intake of food is too much,
  6. I would consider the sleeve before the bypass. Or like your Doc said. give the band somemore time. And start the process over from the beginning, starting on liquids. good luck!

    What Up Jersey!

Yes i rememebr Toni, i met with her early on in this proces.,I am getting my 4th fill next week. I think i am almost at that "green" zone, or whatever they call it. I am slowing starting to not feel hungry at all, and almost have to remind myself to eat. I have pretty good restriction, but i think a pinch more will do it. I do love the fact that Dr. Strom does the fills himself. I am still amazed at how quickly he finds the port!

    What Up Jersey!

Awesome! I was so glad when he came to Bayshore. When i had my surgery in aug. he wasnt doing surgeries at Bayshore yet so i was trekking back and forth to Montclair for al the pre-op visits, and surgery. I go now to Bayshore for my 6 week fills. He is awesome! Both me and my husband are patients, and about 10 of my husbands co-workers as well. How are you doing so far Meredith?

    Problems- Surgeon Talking About Bypass

If anything, do the sleeve, stay away from the bypass.. My husband was one who the band didnot work for. He had it for 5 years, then 5 months ago, got in taken out and got the sleeve (all in same surgery). He is doing much better with sleeve. Also, maybe trying a different med for the acid reflux. I take aciphex everyday and it works great!.. Whatever you choose, best of luck to you!

    Why Get A Lapband?

I am not on a "diet". I can eat anything i ate before surgery, only difference is portion. I eat less than half of what i used to, and its because the band stops me from gorging and stuffing my face. I know if i eat to much i will have the worst pain, and will possibly throw up, and i HATE throwing up. It is a tool, that if used properly will work perfectly. Love my band and am so glad i got it!

    What Up Jersey!

Hey everyone, Im from Middletown (monmouth county). Got banded 8/31/11 by the awesome Dr. Strom at Mountainside Hosp, and currently get my fills at Bayshore hosp in Holmdel. Anyone else use Dr. Strom? So glad to have my band, and so glad its working!
  14. Congrats on starting your journey to a better life! I too am so glad i decided to get banded. It was the best decision i have ever made. Good Luck to you!

Band Being Replaced With The Sleeve?

My husband got the sleeve 5 months ago, after having the band for the last 5 years ( i got the band 6 months ago). He did not utilize his band in the correct way, he would throw up almost every time he ate, because he would still have bad eating habits. His band surgeon would push the bypass on him over and over, so my husband decided to seek another opinion, and we found an awesome surgeon here in NJ, Dr. Strom. After unfilling the band completely for a few months in hopes to start over, he decided on the sleeve.. Dr. Strom took the band out and performed the sleeve at the same time. Took about an hour, and went well. My husband has already lost in 5 months what he couldnt lose in 5 years with the band. So i think the band is better for some (me) and the sleeve is better for some (my husband). Both are great ways to lose and maintain the weight loss, just depends on what kind of journey you want to take.
  16. Only 2 weeks out and eating "real" food already?, that is unusal... As far as the pain feeling... i am 7 months out and every now and then, when i sleep weird or do too much lifting/pushing/bending during the day i still get a soreness around my port, but usually goes away in a day or two.

    Breads

Bread can be the devil sometimes. I can usually do fine with toast (1 piece), or thin crust pizza. But any type of roll, forget it!...just doesnt go down, so i dont even attempt it anymore.

    Sore

You just had surgery, you had to suspect that there would be some pain??.. Take the pain shots as often as you can get them..also ask if there is anything else you can have to take the edge off. Dont mess too much with the incisions...they need to heal. I would think ice would open them back up a bit? These are questions to ask your Doc, and if your Doc is not available, then a nurse should be able to help you. Good luck!

Frustrated W/ Lack Of Wt Loss Lately

Wow 89 lbs in 5 months! thats awesome!...i know people who have the band and they are years out and havent lost that must..congrats to you!...im 7 months out and down 67 lbs...its coming off slow, but coming off none the less..
  20. Could be a suture, or possibly just some scar tissue? Definitely call your Doc. Im 7 months out and still feel weird things on occasion.

    Non Scale Victory!

Hahahaha!... i had that victory a while back! loved it...in fact i threw out my folding clothes hanger that i put my pants and shirts on after being washed...because everything can be dried now!...dont have to worry about it shrinking in the drier, and if it does, it will still fit!!

    Not A Glamourous Topic...

Kinda in the same boat..was banded 8/31/11..My BM cycle is totally messed up, although i eat way more than you, lol...The constipation is bad..before surgery i used to go everyday like clockwork..now its every 2-3 days..and i have to take 6 chewable fiber pills a day just to get that. I do think you need to eat a bit more, and get some more fiber in the diet. Also, walking helps too. Good luck!
  23. Totally normal to have all those feelings. Being just 2 weeks out, im guessing your on mushies? That is a tough phase, but if you feel nauseous you may want to tell your Doc. Keep fighting, everyday gets better. I am 7 months out and lost 67 lbs. My doc says i am right where i should be. Not good to lose too much too fast, makes the skin sag, so dont worry if you dont notice it yet, you will, and when you do you will be glad you took this journey!

Stuck For The First Time :(

Water can help either bring it back up, or soften the food enough that it will slide through the band. I also find that leaning back and arching your back as far as u can go helps as well. Stand up take deep breaths too.
