Its probably acid reflux..take an over the counter acid reducer (nexium), and try not to eat to drink anything right before going to bed.

Try crystal light..so many flavors, and tastes good. No sugar and little or no calories.

August 2011 Bandsters, How Are We Doing??
cakelly73 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi fellow August 2011 bandsters! just real curious how everyone is progessing? I was off the sight for a few months, and came back a couple weeks ago. I would love to hear everyones weight loss to this point, and any feedback, positive and negative. Also how are we doing with foods?..everything going down ok? What are trouble foods for you? And fills, how many have you had thus far? I was banded 8/31/11 (just made it lol). I am down a total of 69 lbs. I have had 4 fills..i think one more should do it. I can eat almost anything..but bread and rice give me some problems here and there. I have a hard time eating breakfast, usually have 1/2 a scrambled egg. And my biggest NSV ...have not thrown up once! -
Boy, u guys got the good stuff!! All i got was tylenol with codeine and it did absolutely nothing!!

Had My 1St Fill About 3 Weeks Ago And Don't Feel Anything
cakelly73 replied to Kim Whiteman-Enos's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did not feel much restriction until my 3rd fill (just got my 4th). I can only eat about 1/4 of what i used to eat, and im ok with that! It does take some time. Some dont feel restriction until their 6th or 7th fill. So hang in there, you will start to see/feel a difference soon. And i agree with the other posters...no drinking right before, during, or right after meals!! -
Sounds like you may be too tight, or your having a bad case of acid reflux. If its your first fill, your stomach may just need time to adjust, and maybe you should do just liquids for a day or two until it calms down, good luck!
-
Maybe its acid reflux? I have had that problem for years, and am on prescription meds for it, and i find after fills i have a couple days of nauseous/gassy/stomach gurgling , but then subsides. See how it is when you do back to regular food, you may need a slight unfill.

As A Bander, What Is Your Opinion Of The Sleeve? Would You Get It?
cakelly73 replied to txdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband was banded 5 years ago, did not have good success, due in most part to him not utilizing it well, and refusing to change his eating habits. He was stuck, and sick all the time, and getting fills after fills, and unfills, and ended up gaining half his weight back. We found another surgeon last year who removed the band, and did the sleeve all in one surgery, took about 90 mins. My husband has lost more weight in 6 months with the sleeve then he did in 5 years with the band. But is now severely lactose intolerant, and has to take b-12 vitamins pills under his tongue every day. He is happy with his decision to go from band to sleeve. I was banded 7 months ago, and am doing well with it. If by chance in the future my band completely fails on me, i will definitely consider the sleeve. -

Feeling Full Vs Stopping Eating Vs Satisfied... When Are You Done?
cakelly73 replied to Trinity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 months out. I am not a good dieter (hence the need for the lapband lol)..i do not measure my food, i do not track/count calories, and i do not deprive myself of anything..i eat the same exact foods as before surgery, with one big difference...portions!... I eat about 1/4 of what i used to eat. I even eat on smaller plates, and use smaller utensils. I do not drink anything before/during/after eating, so i fill up quickly. I usually get a feeling in my chest like i swallowed a watermelon, and then burp a few times, thats when i know its time to stop! Sometimes i finish whats on my plate, sometimes i dont. My weight loss has been steady..about 1-1 1/2 lbs lost a week, plus i walk 45 mins everyday, and do light weights 4x a week. Everyone will take a different journey, some better than others but we all strive for the same result! -
I think i hit the 600 calorie mark by noon! lol
-
Love my sushi! Sometimes the seaweed wrap gives me trouble, but i chew it well. I cant eat a whole roll at once, so i cut it up. And i get full on 3 pieces, where before i could eat 8-10 pieces! But it tastes just as good!

Im sure your dietician / Dr. should have all this info as well.

I have had 4 fills, first one was done with an xray machine, i stood in front of it, drank water and u could see it on the screen going down through the band, sooo cool. All others went well, my doc finds port right away (he should, he put it there!) And its a quick pinch, then done. I also gave to drink water in the office to make sure it gets down ok.

Congrats on all the bambinos! Glad all is well. My surgeon has all his female patients take pregnancy tests right before surgery, literally right before, like when ur getting iv hook ups, if test is positive, he will not do the surgery.
-
I had a kiddie cone with icecream the other day, here at the boardwalk in jersey, and Just had a bowl of frozen yogurt tonight! Just as good as icecream, but a bit healthier. I walk 40 mins everyday, so i think a treat here and there is just fine!

I still get that sometimes at 7 months post op, i would say its normal. -
I am 7 months out, and about 2 go for my 4 th fill this week, i have some restriction, but i think one more fill will do it. I didnt start to feel restriction until after about 4 months, so it can take some time.

3 Days Post-Op Update
cakelly73 replied to magicfanpjc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the overnight hospital thing! So glad my Doc has us stay one night as well. Congrats on the band! I am 7 months out, and doing great. i do not miss the liquid stage AT ALL!! i hated that 2 weeks, but i did lose 15 lbs during that time, so i guess it was worth it! You will find it gets easier day by day. I can still eat anything, so i do not feel deprived. Of course i can only eat a few bites of this and a few bites of that, but im ok with that!. best of luck to you in your journey! -
Suddenly Irregular!
cakelly73 replied to Mrs. 2012 Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had/have the same problem. I take 5 to 6 chewable fiber pills a day. You are eating less so, less in=less out -
This is what i believe is referred to as bandster hell!.. its the time after surgery before your first fill. It is hell, but one that will assure your band is healed and healthy and ready to start you on your journey. I am 7 months out. I had my first fill 8 weeks after surgery, and then have gone every 6 weeks for a fill. Once you get over this hurdle it will be much better. You will actually be able to enjoy food once again. I love not being able to finish whats on my (already downsized) plate. If i want something, i eat it. maybe not the whole thing, but 1/4 or 1/2 and im done. Hang in there, it gets better! good luck!

Oh My Goodness!!! I Suck!!
cakelly73 replied to Idaho Jenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im 7 months out and can eat anything, including pizza, i have had 4 fills, and i think one more would take me to that green zone. The only trouble i have is with chinese food rice. But if you take tiny bites, and chew and chew, you should be able to eat anything. Before surgery i would eat 2-3 pieces of pizza, fries, and anything else that was in front of me. Now i can finish 1 piece (but no crust), but it does take me about 30 mins to do so. Early stages are about healing, and preparing yourself mentally for the life change that will be taking place with the weight loss. Dont beat yourself up over a tv dinner pizza (didnt even know they made those lol). You will have plenty of time to eat real foods. Take your time right now and follow your Dr.s orders. You will be fine. good luck! -

I have BCBS of NJ, and i thought high blood pressure was a co-morbidity? I had no co-morbidities, but my BMI was well over 40, and i was approved in 2 weeks. Your surgeon 's office should be able to appeal/fight with BCBS to get you approved, being a medical biller for 12 years i know it can be done. Dont give up, and ask them to fight on your behalf. -
Love pasta!, and thankfully am able to eat a small portion without any problems. Rice is a tricky one...Rice-roni from a box, i seem to be ok with, but rice from chinese food..no good. Only real trouble i have is bread..mostly rolls.
