http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/6393607.htm The Miami Herald put this article out which really upset me. The way they portray the band makes me understand why insurance companies dont want to cover the procedure and whay some people believe it does not work....I mean, if the paper says this, it must be the truth....right? They should really do some real research before they make such a negative portrayl of something that could be so valuable. Anyway, just wanted to vent. Thanks! ~Dawn (preband, still researching) ....if I were at the beginning of research, an article like this would have steered me in the bypass lane.

I still believe that you should wait till you have lost a substancial amount of weight. No matter what your doctor recommends...there is NO denying that it is MUCH healthier for you and the baby to wait till you are a healthier weight. Good luck and overall it is your decision. Healthy vs Now? ~Dawn (preband)

I agree with Band Midwife...you should wait for a healthier you so that you can have a healthier pregnancy and baby. i have heard that losing weight also increases fertility...so maybe it will be easier to concieve then. Just be open and honest with you husband that it is better in many ways to wait, you and your furture baby! Good luck! ~Dawn

Did your insurance not cover those expenses? I was hoping that they have a psych doc on my plan so that it woudl be covered also. Did you have to use someone that they choose for both things? Thanks! ~Dawn:D -

Alexandra---you make me laugh almost every time I read your posts.....keep'em coming, they are good reading! And you are absolutely right about the "keep'em coming" thing....but you never know what someone might do for the LAST FILL. Sounds scary when you put it like that. They make it sound as if youll never eat again. Anyway, thanks for the reply! ~Dawn (pre-band)

Sassy: I agree. This article was some what similar to the one I posted the link for (Those Darn Newspapers: Miami Herald). I am displeased with the fact that these articles continue to state that the outcome is "less effective" than bypass. Studies have shown that the end weight loss is the same as bypass, the loss is just done at a much healthier rate with no vitamin & nutrient (malabsorption) issues. I just wish these reporters would actually do some good research and find out the current facts before they say incorrect info about a "tool" that could be so useful & valuable to sooooo many. With articles like these, no wonder insurance companies wont cover the procedure...if it does not work, why put in the money? But the good thing is that so many have the opportunity to find out what the band can really offer....I hope to be there some day! Thanks~Dawn (preband, still researching)

Imtorb......What insurance do you have? I am not sure what to expect with my insurance (tricare) which I wont actually have until Sept (currently uninsured). I have heard the good & the bad! Anyway, thanks again....I want to check into this doctor a little more. I went to a seminar with Dr. Snow from Decatur last night...which was interesting. But I believe I would have to pay his portion upfront. And I spoke with the insurance processor and she said that they have only had one incounter with Tricare, in which it was not positive. Oh well, all I can do is try! ~Dawn -
