The telemetric is only available through the Healthier Weight Centres - I am going to Manchester as I am in the North of England. Went to see surgeon on Saturday - he was great and didn't try to push the new band [it is £1000 more than the normal one] but gave me the benefits, no needles, no port [just a flat disc which is under the skin] then a computer box is placed over it and they have like a credit card with your details on and this goes into the box - they can then adjust the band to a milimetre. He did explain however that because it is new they only have one years statistics as opposed to many years with the other band. He said all patients with the new band were doing really well so I can't see any reason why not to go with it. He was also saying that they are hoping in the future to be able to adjust the band over the telephone. Great!! - I think I have already made up my mind but what do you all think. Ten years or more of statistics on the old type band or only one on the new one??

Just got back from consultation with surgeon. Op scheduled for 11th March. Can't wait:clap2:

Thank you all. Can't wait - I have a decision to make though. I have said I would like the new telemetric band [no port, no needles, no fills. Adjustments all done by computer - and what's more they are working on something right now so that in the future any adjustments may be able to be made over the telephone] A thousand pounds more though - but the benefits are worth the money I think. The surgeon didn't try to push this one at all - in fact he said to go home and think hard about it as it has only been in use for a year so they don't have any long term statistics about it. Although the people who have had it in the past year are all doing really well on it and great if you don't like needles. Also the adjustments can be made to such a precise measurement. What would you all do????

Just wondered if there were any other UK members on here Having consultation on Satuday and surgery is booked for 11 March. Am having the telemetric band - so no port - no fills - all adjusted by computer. Can't wait. Had the gastric balloon for 6 months end 2005 but started putting the weight back and it is coming back superfast. So scared I'm going to end up heavier than before. So any other UK members.

It apparently is exclusive to the Healthier Weight Centres which are in London, Birmingham and Manchester. I'm having mine done in Manchester.

I had one like this - stayed with him 15 years - was badly overweight and he never stopped telling me so. I'm going back a long time now but I met up with a teenage sweetheart [after not seeing him for about 16 years] dumped the weight [56 lbs of it] and dumped the man. Married the man of my dreams - 10 years on never been happier - OK I'm struggling with the weight again but this one is so supportive you wouldn't believe. Get your band, lose your weight, look fabulous and then kick his arse into touch.

Having surgery in Manchester. I am a low BMI though - got bed booked for 11 March but seeing surgeon on Saturday for go ahead. Hoping he will approve it - from initial chat with his nurse it will be OK. I started at just over 13 stones [approx 82kilos] and went down to 68 kilos [about 10st 7lbs] when I had the gastric balloon. Just wished it had been permanent instead of just 6 months. That is why I want the band. I am regaining the weight rapidly -back up to 11st7lbs and so scared of ending up back at starting weight or heavier. I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol level is high. I have problems with joints, knees, hips, ankles. Am only small at 4ft11ins so keeping fingers crossed. If he doesn't approve I will go somewhere else as I am desperate.

Just wanted to join in with the UK members. Having surgery on 11 March. Had gastric balloon but that was taken out nearly a year ago. Started to regain the weight and worried that I will end up heavier than before. Am having the telemetric band - no port - no fills - all adjustments done by computer. Having it done in Manchester.

Thank you for that link - I will keep everyone posted about the telemetric.

Hi I'm new here. Looking at the posts I think maybe this is more USA geared than UK. I had a gastric balloon fitted Oct 05 for 6 months. I managed to lose about 18 kilos [was 82 kilos to start] I had the balloon removed March 06 and although I have tried really hard to stay to smaller portions I am now starting to regain the weight. Back up to about 74 kilos. I am terrified of putting it all back and some so am seriously considering the lapband. I know I am not grossly overwieight but I'm only small and really need to lose the weight is because I have high blood pressure, my cholesterol levels are also high, I suffer with arthritis in knees and hips and my mum was diabetic which I am really worried about becoming. I just felt I was doing so well with the balloon and would have loved to have kept it in forever so think the band is the next best step. I have two choices at the moment whether to go for the lap band with the port or a new procedure - same lap band but it is adjusted electronically so no need for needles. What I would like to know is where the port actually sits - is it above or below your breasts and can you see or feel it.

I have now booked my consultation and also pre-booked my bed for surgery. I have opted to go for the new telemetric band - it has no port and therefore no fills - it is adjusted electronically so no needles. It is going to be a thousand pounds more but I figured it will be worth it long term - also was told that they are actually working on being able to adjust this via the telephone so won't even have to travel to the clinic for adjustments. Will know more on the 17th Feb when I have my consultation with the surgeon. But bed is pre-booked with a huge cash deposit for the 11th March

Just wondered if anyone knows the answer to something I was thinking about. At Christmas I had gastric flu and was violently sick through the night. I am just thinking what would happen if you got this or food poisoning with the band in place. I just couldn't imagine what it would be like vomitting as I was with your stomach restricted. Anyone know the anwer??

Thanks for answering my question - I had visions of having this big lump somewhere just below the breast line. Didn't know you had to pay for fills. I am in the UK and have been told by one clinic that the price [just below 8 thousand pounds] includes unlimited fills, all your pre-op and post-op foods.

Hi New here. Considering lap band after losing weight with the gastric balloon. Had it removed about a year ago and now starting to regain weight. I don't have a huge amount of weight to lose but because of other health issues, blood pressure, arthritic knees and hips, high cholesterol levels, diabetis in the family - the same clinic is willing to give me the lap band. I just have questions about the port - where is it located exactly. Below or above the breasts and can you see or feel it. I have the option of another clinic offering the new electronic band which has no port and is regulated by computer chip. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
